The really weird thing was on the very back end of the taste, it was pretty clear that there is a base beer buried in there. My grandson smelled it and said "funny beer"... But yeah...I am still confused about liking it so much.

By what we can figure out, Hydra is a kettle sour that serves as the base. Then Mortalis and collaborators wreak whatever havoc they want on the unsuspecting base beer. I know the local shop was very excited to have some, and they didn't have much. And High Spirits was pretty jazzed that they are supposed to be getting some on Tuesday - so was the guy standing next to us.

@Roguer I'll be back with a west coast IPA later as well...we'll see when I have time to post.

This was me hernia surgery last year. I just rotated ibuprofen and advil extra strength, worked very well. My dad just had surgery too though and the pain meds worked great for him, so I guess we all just process things a little different.

I'm sure it never really gets any easier even after all those years.

Oh man, I misread that first sentence at first as something like, "I'll be back on the west coast later..." and I was all excited to drink more beer with you!

On the drugs...a few years ago, I had a lumbar disc explode. They gave me a bunch of drugs (percocet and oxycodone or something?) that didn't even touch the pain before or after the surgery. Only thing they did for me was make me drowsy. Drowsy + excruciating pain doesn't really make it easier to sleep, most of the time.

    Hope you're recovering quickly, @Roguer!

Soft, pale yellow body, hazy; thick, rocky, white head. Citrus and tropical fruit notes in the smell; soft sweetness. The taste brings pineapple and lemon to the front; citrus rind; bitter. Somewhat watery body with some acidic bite; light initial juiciness with a mostly dry finish.

Not a bad hazy beer, but rather lightweight all around

Christmas 2021 I drank this beer. I still remember it. Those sat around the bottle shops of L.A. and I adopted a few to a new home in Texas. Skål!

Made it up to LA for work this week so, I had to stop by highland park. Picked up a new 8% hazy dipa “double dry hopped” with citra, Vic Secret and motukea. I guess there is a none DDH version. Bartender said it’s their freshest ipa. It was just canned/kegged.

really nicely balanced. Tons of fruit and tropical aromas. Nice creamy/soft mouthfeel that isn’t like too much. Just soft and round. No hop but and just a touch bitterness. Also, doesn’t have a sweet finish.

the flavor follows the nose with tropical fruit like mango, over ripe pineapples etc. there is just enough dank/west coast on the finish so it’s not a complete fruit salad or sweet. I would rate this like a 4.5 /5 or like a 9/10.

A decent lager, nice appearance and aroma. The taste is nothing to write home about yet nothing to ignore either. I would consider this a fine journeyman effort. Fair malt flavor, not too sweet, crushable.

...had a nice supper last night with Mrs. BeerGoot at an excellent Greek-American restaurant - Jake & Telly's...I usually have a Greek red wine with my usual order - lamb giouvetsi (baked lamb shank with tomato sauce and feta cheese with orzo and Greek vegetables) but felt like a beer instead...

    Another new brew for today!
The Nazz from Hive Brewing Westerly, RI, DIPA
First, being a huge Todd Rundgren fan I live the name so theres that. Great start.
Not much info on the can but data base with no reviews says basically a West Coast/East Coast hybrid.
Pours a very hazy orange with a creamy off white 2 finger head with good retention, lits of world map lacing.
Lots of tropical in the nose; crushed pineapple, mango, watermelon, tangerine, juicyfruit
Taste follows w/ sweet ripe tropicals, tangerine/orange, some bubblegum yeastiness but what indicates West Coast, if anything, is the solid darker malt base. Its trying to introduce California to the gang but I think a bunch are resisting. That being said it does balance the sweetness making this a very drinkable and pretty good hazy, fruity IPA in the style (mostly) of NE. Bitterness comes in the form of citrus pith and a bit of pine needles.
Body is medium, oily with hops, yet drying on the bitter finish. No hint of 8.2%
A really good DIPA. First from Hive as well. Glad I bought the 4 pk. Hopefully I can get to the brewery or at least give another of their beers a shot.
    Cheers![IMG]

Another treat from my new favorite brewery. Making it's BA debut, 239 Ale by Naples Beach Brewery of scenic Naples Florida. A well-balanced Amber Ale. Cheers.

A 10-oz. pour at the Brewery. Slightly hazy amber-brown color with a lasting beige soapy head with streaks of lace.

Mild smell of toasted grains and caramel with light herbal hops. Fresh baked bread with apple and pear.

Neutral taste with a hint of caramel sweetness, mild bitterness. Toasted bread in the lead followed closely by fruit and granola-like grains.

Medium-full body with lively carbonation. Nice balance of flavors, lightly malty with matching hops. Easy drinker, true to style and again I must mention the balance.

KBS Hazelnut - KBS is one of my favorite beers and I have enjoyed all of the variants thus far, of course some more than others. My current ranking would be as follows:

    1. Espresso
    2. KBS
    3. Maple Mackinac Fudge
    4. Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa

Let's see where this one falls! Pours the usual black with a nice creamy head, decently carbonated. Heavy hazelnut on the nose and approaching almost peanut butter territory, which I can pick up with some hazelnuts. An alcohol smell, a bit of barrel, a barely there hint of Bourbon, but I don't really pick up much else. Taste is hazelnut, a bit of alcohol warming, a hint of barrel and that's about it. Not much coffee, chocolate or Bourbon going on and this is still KBS and it's lurking underneath it all, but barely. As it warms the hazelnut mellows a bit and some of the other flavors come through but there is still no mistaking what variant this is.

Not a bad beer by any means but you need to like hazelnut to like this, as it is the dominant flavor profile for me. I went with just a single for now and I am glad that I did, as this will probably be enough for me. I think that I would put this one at #4 and slide CVC down to #5. Bottled on 01/26/22. Budmo!

*For the other calorie counters out there this one clocks in at a whopping 340 so adjust accordingly.

Since bocks were brought up at the beginning of the thread figured that it seems as good of time as any to open this localish barrel aged doppelbock, Pherm Phermenator.

750 ml bottle poured into a tulip

A- A clear brownish ruby red with a two finger tan head.

S- Toffee, caramel, vanilla, some oak, whiskey, a little earthy.

T- Toffee, earthy, oak, whiskey, some vanilla, touch of noble hops.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A good doppelbock, but could be balanced better. Nose is on the sweet side and the taste is on the bitter/earthier side, if they could have meet in the middle of the nose and taste it would be really special.

Great Raft DDH Commotion APA, 5.5% ABV; 4.24 overall

Pours an effervescent & hazed honey color with a thumb+ ivory colored head. Average head retention & lacing

    S: Green melon, strawberry, papaya

T: Sweet oranges, dryness, green melon & passion fruit up front. Lime, powdery dryness & sweet oranges once warm. Finishes very dry with lime & sweet orange

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, nice balance

If this delivered the nose, it would be a great beer. Still pretty drinkable & not one I'd ever turn my nose up to
