I have to be honest... I really miss the days I could go to Putters (indoor pizza, put-put, lazer tag spot) and get a pint of Upright 4, 5, or 6 for like $4-5. No one else I know of makes a standard Saison, keeps it on rotation, and charges less than an IPA. Saisons are one of the cheapest beers to brew, and yet everyone has to do extra stuff (fruited, soured, fruited and soured, barrel aged, barrel aged fruited soured, etc). Can't we just have an easy to find, affordable, well brewed Saison? A full pint for $5. No special pours, no 5oz for $12.

I'm not helping, but I was recently in a similar situation. I went to my favorite bottleshop to get just a basic-ass sour or saison and every other one was some sort of slushee/lactose bomb. I'm waiting for the pendulum to swing back in the other direction

It's fair to say the days of $5 pints are behind us for the most part. However, Upright still has saisons on tap for $5-6/12oz for non barrel aged ones, and $7/12oz for the barrel aged ones. Fantasia at that price point is just a ridiculously good deal.

Also - ForeLand and Breakside recently released pint cans of saisons for $4 or so.

I know they're technically a WA brewery at the moment, but Logsdon does a canned homage to Urban Farmhouse called Urban Encore.

Yeah, but what is the price point? A Saison shouldn't be more than $10 for a 6 pack or 4 pack of 16s.

I paid $4 or $5 at Bottleworks for a can.

Yeah, I think that is part of my issue with how Saisons are treated. A Saison should be an easy drinking peasant beer, not a hard to get pricey one. I'd look at $4-5 for a bomber.

You're not gonna see a 4-pack of 16 oz beers for $10 or less in the new beer economy. Ingredients and overhead costs are too high. Maybe $15 is achievable, but I can't see $10 for small scale operations.

Yeah, I'm probably asking too much for that price point. I'm going off the cost I am seeing from Oregon breweries for a comparable format. So, like, B15 non hop bomb packaged 4X16 is usually $9.99-$11.99 at Winco/Grocery Outlet.

If I could find a reliable source for the 12pack of GD Colette I would smash that like crazy, but anybody I have found that stocks it sells them as singles and not packs.

I thought of Collette immediately when I read the initial post. Coincidentally, I just had one last night. I used to grab six packs of Tank 7 fairly regularly, but they just showed up occasionally the past few years. I'd love it if a PNW brewer made saisons part of their regular lineup, again, not fancied up, reasonably priced.

And while I'm grumbling, I'm finding that I pass up quite a few beers when they are only offered in 16 ounce format. I'm a 12 ounce guy myself.

When I was considering opening a brewery I planned to have a couple Saisons on my core beers list. One under 4% and another in the 6% range.

Saisons also don't sell anywhere close to hoppy beers or lagers. Fremont used to have a standard one in their core can lineup but got rid of it due to poor sales.

that's just sad. I mean, I could understand limiting them to Summer and Fall seasonals (so they are actually available Spring & Summer). But they are just too good to not have access all year.

You and me both. I mostly do my beer drinking in taverns/pubs, and increasingly I almost never order a full pint. I typically want to try a couple of different beers when I'm out and about, and I can't really do that if I'm buying pints.

All the more reason that I don't generally buy 16 ounce cans at my local. However, I can only assume we're in the minority, as 16 ounce cans seem to sell very well in every bar and store I frequent.

this might not be a pure representation of the style, but man i miss the days of being able to pick up a 12oz bottle of Green Flash Rayon Vert for like $2.49

Rayon Vert is/was a Belgian Pale like Orval. Not a Saison.

Probably the best Orval clone I've ever had, though. I miss it as well.

Dwinell Country Ales out of Washington started sending cans (16oz) to Oregon recently. Not sure if they've made it to Eugene, but Portland got a bunch a couple weeks ago. Their Future Proof saison is a 3.5% crusher that's probably one of the best new beers I've had in the last year or two. I think 4 packs go for around $18-20, which is a pretty decent price, IMO.
