Getting ready for a parallel tasting of two of New England's finest beers. In a shocking development, neither of these beers are NEIPAs (I don't care what you say about Heady, it is as much of a NEIPA as I'm a Martian). These are two of my favorite beers of all time, and for which I have in the past traveled to Vermont (often overnight), in moments of pure psychopathy.

Let me preface this tasting with the following statement:
I typically do not believe in side-by-side comparisons of beers. Each beer is unique, and different by design, so any comparison that concludes that X is better than Z is essentially an expression of how they differ, and does not necessarily reflect a superiority in quality or flavor.

Having said that, Heady shits all over Sip of Sunshine. It just does.

Heady Topper has everything that Sip of Sunshine has to offer, plus a lot of added complexity. That dankness, that cattiness, the bitterness that lingers for longer than an asparagus-fueled fart, the mouthfeel that coats your entire mouth, including the two molars you had filled by that sketchy Bulgarian dentist in his basement circa 1999. It just has it all, and a lot more.

When I drink Heady I cannot help but focus my full attention on the beer. I cannot be multitasking while drinking Heady. Sip of Sunshine, while delightful, does not trigger a similar focus, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes I want a full-flavored beer while I'm doing something else, like watching a game, or reading, or operating a forklift. Like I said, each beer has a place and time.

In all seriousness they are both excellent beers. I'd drink either of them any day of the week. But I'd drink Heady more.

    Happy hump day, BA's

My best friend's b-day today, we went for an earlier hike at a nice (and very muddy) local metropark - invited him over for beers later this afternoon and perhaps some lake fishing....

    In the meantime.....this works!

    My usual a.m./NA shit-post here.
Got in a nice, easy 10K, 2nd run of this week of recovery.
Still not feeling any injuries, aches, or pains. SO that's.... welcome. Another 8 weeks+ before the 50K in May. I have work to do...

I'll be back, I hope, with some real juice - later on. A ton of grading to do today, but I won't teach again until late April (yippee!) so I'll be haunting these here pages more often .

    Cheers!

Post PT beer at the pub, from my share bag, Oxbow’s “Bobasa” a smoked Farmhouse:

Excellent! Funky with just a smidge of smoke. I’m not a fan of smoke, but this beer aged 46 months in wine barrels and was bottled December 2017, so the smokey is quite mellow. Cheers and have a great day y’all!

I used to own the Duvel tulip glass but guess what? Missus has broken it…

I know I can purchase a new one anyday, just can’t be bothered with the expanse. :grinning:

Love seeing how far and wide the MBC distro has gotten. Always assume it's due to trades when I see posts outside of NE. Funny, it's hard to find fresh dates on bottles here or I'd drink it more often.
