All around great post, both super good… Heady is really delic, hard to come by for most, is the legend. Finally a review I understand , more importantly you got your points across in a fun way.. Sip is no slouch, my go to while operating a forklift or dental drill. Cheers!

The bar owner here has an account with MBC. She told me she asked repeatedly for this keg, which she got - I love MBC on tap - Cheers!

Power's Pub in CP, it's an old Tory Tavern. Probably early evening, haven't gotten the details yet, I've been studying the video

Goddamn it. After over a year of receiving no bites on ISO Heady posts, you’ve convinced me I’m going to just have to drive to VT for a case. I try to forget how glorious Heady is, but there’s really nothing like it.

The other problem here in PA is that hardly anyone refrigerates them.

Hello Advocates! Thanks kindly @Roguer for striking up todays thread...and the band played on! I'm tired from 3 late nights in a row but I managed to run 4.1 road miles today OUTDOORS!! 1st time since last Nov. and it was 51F, windy, partly sunny and splashy with lots of snow melt but I didn't get splashed by any vehicles so that's cool. Sooo nice to get off of the treadmill and do some hills in both directions.
*Right now: Summit Frost Line Rye with Turtle Kitten. This is a very affordable & beautiful brew with a well designed, enthusiastic and handsome citrus rind/black tea bitterness and malt wave that is very easy drinking. Cheers! Keep on smiling!!

Perhaps one day these two breweries (and Treehouse) will drop in Chicago and I can compare firsthand. To me Melrose and this beer are my favorite IPAs, and if I had regular fresh access to either would always be in my refrigerator at all times. Fat Heads would be right up there, but they stop short of our border.

Perhaps the lack of early morning activity is due to people getting locked out of their accounts like I was to start the day (notification stated BA received a bounceback email and thus my account was locked). Almost jeopardized my Cal Ripken-esque streak since the outbreak of COVID on WBAYDN. Still have several years to pass his streak count.

While I agree that Heady is not what we consider a NEIPA now, I could see an argument being made that it heavily influenced the style. I remember my first pour of Heady having CHUNKS of sediment in it. That being said, it is a divine beer. Second to none.

I think I agree with literally every opinion you offered.

-They're not NEIPAs. They're both wonderfully bitter. Lawson's, HF, and The Alchemist produced what I (and many others) consider to more properly be proto-NEIPAs, primarily due to that wonderfully soft mouthfeel, as well as an explosive and fruity hop expression. But the other characteristics we associate with NEIPAs, primarily low bitterness (and later, the absolute murk bombs which took over the style - Heady, again, opened the door, but it looks nothing like what followed), just aren't there. They're Vermont's unique take on WCIPAs (some people even refer to them as Vermont IPAs).

-Heady is the more complex and rewarding beer, and demands more attention. That said, it makes SoS more of a daily drinker to me. Having more than one Heady in a sitting is a bold move, but having more than one SoS doesn't challenge me in the slightest - even though they clock in at the exact same ABV. I've ended a night with another Heady; it did not end well.

-They each have a time and a place. SoS is somehow more "crushable," as discussed. I'm cooking and drinking? I don't want a beer I need to focus on, or take notes for a review. I want a beer that's delicious (which SoS certainly is), but I can grab and take a swig and then go back to cooking without pause. Heady doesn't lend itself to that environment as well.

I had my first Heady in years (that long already???) at a pub outside Hartford recently (the owner apparently has connections with HF and The Alchemist), and even though it's supposedly been reformulated recently to be more dank, I found it just as rewarding - and challenging! - as ever. A truly phenomenal beer.

I'm not complaining that I can get SoS pretty much any day of the week, though.

Drinking Troeg's Hop Horizon IPA - the Freshest by date is illegible so I have no idea when this was bottled although I can discern 2022. It tastes pretty good though.

I don't have access to Heady, but I think Fiddlehead Second Fiddle is better than Sip of Sunshine. If I see them both, I will always go for the Fiddlehead. Not that Sip is bad, I just prefer Second Fiddle.
