I know the 'bottles vs cans' debate has been had many times, I'm asking this in a mildly more specific way.

If you spotted a new brewery on the shelf at your local bottle shop/grocery store/wherever you buy beer, (a brewery you've never visited and a brewery you've never purchased from or tried otherwise), which of the two poll options would you choose?

It would depend on the price per OZ,

It would also depend on the style, but I almost always reach for a smaller format vessel.

Not because of the type of package, but of these two the can wins due to smaller volume. Serving size being equal, it would not matter on bit.

I went with the can, mostly for the smaller size. I suppose if this new brewery were the first ever to crack the code or offering a bomber at a normal $/oz I would give that a try.

22oz, of course. There's nothing I would have purchased in the first place that I wouldn't rather have had more of.

Also, if I were the new brewery, just imagine how much used bottling equipment must be being practically given away.

Doubtful I would buy either as guessing neither of those off standard sizes would be good value unless was unique style so hard to answer.

As far as can or bottle, would not care either way.

Are there US brewers using 16.9 oz. (500 ml) cans?
    #1 Ball doesn't list them.

    12oz, regardless.

That said: a brewery I'm familiar with has a canning line for 12oz sixers, y.et still has a mobile bottler come in roughly once a month to fill a couple flagships, and some one-offs/seasonals. That bottler has 2 bottling trucks, and a canning unit (which, IIRC, is set up for 16oz cans, but can be switched back to 12s), and they're busy 5 days a week filling various formats for breweries, cideries, setzeries, etc.

Oh, because of the aluminum shortages, minimum orders for cans rising, and breweries trying to be flexible, the price of that stuff has soared, its value has increased?

Any brewery who is sizeable enough to have had a bottling line, isn't giving it away.

I'm chalking that up as a fat-finger typo.

Neither unless I've read some hype about the brewery or the beer on BA. If I have that info, I'd go with the can since it's listed in the poll in singular form (not a 4-pack).

The can. The bottle is almost a bomber.

    Edit: it is.

That's "mildly" more specific than "do you prefer bottles or cans?":wink:

    Seven-ounce brown glass bottle.

As regards the poll question, I didn't vote. I wouldn't buy either one.

If it's a place I'm unfamiliar with, gimme the bomber. That way I'm not stuck with more cans (or 12oz bottles) if it's not my thing. Especially if it's like most new places and they're trying to be unique by adding weird spins on everything.
