This is the funniest post of the thread so far.

I have not figured this out and do not know if it is not me, or not, not me. I think.

I regret to inform you, you are incorrect.

You are missing one element, it is not as strikingly similar to the two examples you gave, as it is not named after the state like those two; just sounds like it could be.

Yes the gorge does get frequented; not as often as this venue and it is much farther east.

    Hope you enjoy them :beers:

...no, didn't "need" the autobahn or Montana, but they helped keep things pseudo-legal...I got my old '66 LeMans up to about 95 on I-71 heading towards Cleveland one time back in the mid-70s...

I got a two door Geo Metro up to 85 once on I-94 in North Dakota. Three cylinders and a manual transmission...downhill, with the wind behind, flat out pegged...

    Edit: It was terrifying

WSP had those as well. They had a somewhat legendary reputation for speed back in those days.

I actually have no idea how fast I've driven, but I'd wager I once cruised around 100 or so from the Tri-Cities to Pullman in the mid-90s in a 1979 Monte Carlo. The speedometer only went up to 85 and the needle was well beyond there. Gas went quick but I made excellent time.

I once drove a beat-up Honda Spree from Varadero to Cardenas at an unknown speed due to the broken speedometer needle moving back and forth in the gauge like a windshield wiper. I’m guessing I topped out at a brisk 45km/hour. US$15 for a 24 hour rental with a full tank of gas!

Parenthetically, I always found it amusing that I had to convert my currency to US$ when going to Cuba.

...not just a strategy - a grand strategy...!!!...but I thought of this first (but being the shy person I am, shamelessly kept my counsel to myself...)...

A year after I graduated from college in 1985, I purchased a 1986 Dodge Charger Shelby Edition.

    It was ….. fast.

A 5-speed with no cruise control, it was a speeding ticket on 4 wheels - I acquired tickets in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Tennessee (how I avoided a ticket in Kentucky is beyond me).

One time I did not acquire a speeding ticket was following a coworker from Point A to Point B (approximately 10 miles). This coworker drove a Beamer and informed me that the speedometer was pegged at 125 mph during that run.

I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know that 10-mile trip went by in a LOT less than 10 minutes - and that the Charger suffered a blown engine immediately after that trip, which was thankfully covered by the “5-year 50,000 Mile” warranty that Dodge offered back then.

And the service manager, who diagnosed the blown engine and approved the warranty coverage, asked me if I was “rodding” the Charger.

    No sir, not at all.

THAT is the fasted I’ve traveled in a land-based vehicle. Still scares me to this day thinking about it. I’m not afraid of driving fast, but that was FLYING.
