That's amazing. I've been called "Roguer" for nearly 30 years now (ROW-gerr). When I first went to register roguer as my e-mail address, it was shockling already taken (AOL? Yahoo!? I forget by now).

The dude said that he picked the name after Rogue River, which was apparently a valley near him.

Naturally, rogue and rouge are often spelled incorrectly (for each other). So to see Rouge River, after all these years, well that's just silly cool!

It is juicy and hazy and leaning in the direction of IPA, but it's also fairly grain forward, kind of funky, and I don't know what that aroma note I was getting was all about. That seems to have died off, as I'm about halfway through the beer.

Finally joining you all with a beer tonight. This is my very first slack tide beer, I've seen you post about them quite often @MacMalt so I grabbed a single of their brown ale. I really wanted to try their black IPA but didn't see it at this store.

Slack Tide - Bucktail (brown ale)

This one poured super carbonated, a slow pour yield instant and huge bubbly head. That head settles to one of the best heads I've seen in a long time, crazy retention and lacing. Deep dark reddish brown and close to crystal clear.

A very dark toasted aroma is followed by a big nice spicy sappy hop aroma, there is just general crisp freshness to the nose.

The taste is even hoppier than the nose would lead on, same very dark toasted maltiness with a really noticeable spicy earth hop note.

Medium body beer that is very crisp and dry, a noticeable pine like bitterness on the finish, almost sappy when its paired with the dryness. The only downfall to this is the ABV, now its not high at 5.9% but paired with the body of this beer I do notice it somehow, maybe just a sensitivity.

This is a really tasty beer and I'm mad at myself for not trying this brewery sooner. I will gladly try more of their beers after this experience.

Lagunitas Stereohopic Vol.4 with Lotus & Sabro hops, 7.2% ABV; 3.88 overall

Pours an effervescent & bright gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

    S: Green melon, lemon

T: Follows the nose, some peach, cantaloupe & breadyness up front. Some dryness as this warms, more green melon, a little tangerine. Finishes a little dry with plenty of green melon, some peach sweetness & a touch of grassyness, almost rated this 4.25

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, good balance

Drinkable enough IPA, doesn't wow me, but was worth buying a sixer of. The nose wasn't too impressive for sure

The Rouge Valley conservation area (and Rouge River is at the western edge of Toronto. I believe it is the largest urban park on the continent. It’s about a 10 minute drive from the mother-in-law. We go often to do some light hiking.

The brewery is in Markham, just north of the city. It’s a pretty good one.

    True Anomaly Star Port Jambore.

Port Barrel Aged Wild Ale, 10% ABV.

Pours with a chilled haze, that clears up after a while. A dark orange color, with a finger of white foam capping everything off, that eventually fades. Plenty of lace left behind.
The nose is hard for me to describe. Plenty of esters which gives of a nice fruity aroma. Light wood and toasted malts. Nothing bad here at all, very enjoyable, but just fairly nondescript.
Taste wise, plenty of tart fruits. Fresh raspberry and blackberry. Intermingled with wood and toasted malts. Some sweetness like vanilla and burnt caramel sugars. With a lingering acidic bite that is enjoyable.
A medium to full body. Good carbonation that is crisp, but smooth at the same time. Just enough alcohol heat to let you know its there Which makes this very warming and welcoming. This is a nice sipper.

This is very interesting and enjoyable. Maybe not my favorite beer from True Anomaly. Though still very well made. The Port barrels add those fresh berry flavors, mixed with the wood and malt character, and acidity works. Not sure if this really fits any style category, but no bother, Still another very good beer from this brewery.

Sipping on this while watching The Godfather, was meaning to do this earlier as its the 50th Anniversary. but never got around to it. The beer works well with this classic.

Anyway, overall score is 3.94, B+

Brisk, a pale ale from Willibald, another Canadian brew @Coronaeus sent me vaguely associated with NBS BIF #14.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 01/FEB/2022.

Pours a light whitish-yellow with a huge fluffy head that collapses slowly and stickily. Hazy, and well-carbonated. Smell is citrus pith and melon. Something floral.

Taste is similar, but stronger on the melon side than the citrus pith. Light, lemony finish.

Mouthfeel is on the medium side of light, smooth, and dry. Overall, this is a nice beer.

On draft at Moab brewery , I’m in the desert, there are slim pickings for craft beer selections

Brewers notes Our American unfiltered wheat ale is brewed with Red Wheat, 2 Row, Carapils and Munich malts. A staff favorite that hits the spot no matter what time of year.
    IBU 26 • 5% ABV

Thin white foam layer quickly evaporates to a ring, some lacings , translucent golden beer

    Faint yeasty aroma

Faint yeasty taste , barely a banana hint, only a very faint clove

    Mouthfeel is thin, fizzy

Not my first choice for this style, they are missing the yeast component

Founders Bottle Shop Belgian Twist Tripel with Blue Agave Syrup, 10.0% ABV; 3.74 overall

A little bit of a gusher upon opening; pours an effervescent honey color with fast falling beige head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Doughy. yeasty, dried dates, a lot of sweetness once warm, plus green banana

T: Supersweet up front, from the agave syrup I presume, figs, honey notes, pretty dry with a booze presence up front. Green banana once warm, much dryness, grassy hops and a touch of oakyness, plus sweetness from the Agave Syrup & a little dried dates & apricots. Finishes dry, sweet with plenty of juicy fruit

MF: Medium body with assertive carbonation that tails off pretty quick

Not in love with, but solid enough, a little less sweetness please

Beer #2 for this NBW, MN-brewed bock #2.

Modist Olde Omen Bock - Traditional
    ABV: 6.5%
    IBU: NA
    [IMG]
Dark brown, but crystal clear, with good carbonation; a backlight reveals a reddish brown color. 1 1/2 inch tall, thick head, light tan, with OK retention and leaving attractive lacing as it does fade.

Roasted malts dominates the aroma, but there is also a breadiness/graininess to it.

Flavor brings the roasted malts, dark bread, and a nice flavor something like an unsweet caramel (if that makes any sense). The initial taste begins with the roasted malts and bread, with the caramel (perhaps a touch of fruit-like flavor as well) in the middle, nutty, no bitterness at all, with a fairly dry and smooth finish. The aftertaste retains the caramel, dark bread, and nutty flavors.

The mouth feel is flat and thin.

Overall, a nice-tasting nicely done traditional bock. Another local traditional bock, well-brewed, is always welcome. Recommended.

Frogichlaus from Hoppin' Frog. Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice murky dark orange with tan head. The nose is full of toffee and sweet candy. Quickly followed by maple, dark berries, watermelon, and a thick layer of malts. Really nice and smooth. The ABV is really not detectable at all.

The taste is really sweet, but not cloying. Again, tons of toffee. That's really the main flavor coming through. I also love toffee, so this is a winner for me. Candy sweetness, malts, figs, plums, a touch of wood, and some darker berries.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the alcohol is very well hidden. Overall, this is fantastic. Compared to Samichlaus, this is definitely sweeter.

More Canadian beer from @Coronaeus! 2022 Lady Macbeth Barrel Aged Scotch Ale from Granite.

500ml bottle served in a footed pilsner glass.

Pours dark toffee color with a medium sized head that collapses to a couple millimeter thick creamy-looking layer. Smell is richly chocolatey, cocoa powder. Maybe a little bit of roastiness and toffee. A little boozy, probably some vanilla.

Taste is still lots of cocoa, more toffee sweetness, and nuts. Maybe some dates or something? Figs?

Mouthfeel is surprisingly soft, fluffy almost. Very nice.

Good Evening everyone! Hope you all are having a good weekend. I'm doing some work and rewatching the HBO series Chernobyl this evening and planning to try to fit a couple reviews in here while doing that. First up is a beer I was really excited for - Tree House - Nomad a Czech Dark lager and one of the lineup of lagers that they are putting out these days. @GoOSU was kind enough to send this my way.

Pours a dark cola colored brown. Although it is opaque due to the darkness, it actually shows very good clarity when held up to the light. Thick frothy tan colored head forms on the beer, lingers for a few moments then dissipates leaving no residual head. The aroma is driven by notes of grainy malts, rye bread, pumpernickel, with some light nutty malts and spicy hops.

Taste follows the nose with notes of rye bread, pumpernickel, cocoa, some light nutty malts giving way to a spicy herbal hop note on the back end. Smooth almost silky notes from the flavors. Feel is light to medium bodied, smooth, with brisk carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall this is a delicious and well executed Czech Dark Lager from Tree House.

Next up is another one from Tree House - this is their Czech Pilsner - Žatec Harvest. Again, thank you to @GoOSU for this one.

Pours a crystal clear golden color. Thick, frothy, billowy white head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment, then dissipates leaving a hilly layer of foam on the top of the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet malts, hay, dried straw, and some grassy hops.

Taste follows the nose with notes of sweet malts, straw, dried hay, and grassy hops. The hops on the back end are spicy and lightly vegetal. Feel is light, crisp, and bright. Sort of drier on the back end.

Overall it is a very nice Czech pilsner.

    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 3.75 = 3.82 (rDev -8.4%)

Next up is a beer that is well outside my usual choice, but @William_Navidson was kind enough to send it along giving me the opportunity to expand my horizons a bit.

Tree House Brewing - Extra Vanilla Double Milkshake IPA

[EDIT: Tired Hands NOT Tree House]

Pours an opaque, bright orange color. Thick frothy white head forms on the beer, slowly dissipating until just a thin layer of foam remains. Aroma has notes of vanilla, some light orange notes giving it this somewhat creamsicle like aroma. It is an interesting combo.

Taste follows the nose with notes of vanilla, sweet and creamy with underlying hop notes bringing with it orange, grass, and apricot. Moderate bitterness on the back end. It is an interesting combination between the sweet vanilla notes and the hops. Feel is medium bodied, smooth and silky. Moderate carbonation.

Overall it is an interesting beer and an interesting style. This is the best milkshake IPA I've had, but it is not a style I am going to be picking up much.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 = 4.02 (rDev -9.3%)

It's a good beer. Maybe a little too sweet for some people. I bought the variety 12 pack myself. I would love to have a 12 pack of this all by it's self. It is on tap around the twin cities at bars/restaurants. I had it at redcow in Saint Paul last weekend.

It looks like Summit brewed a dopplebock like I wanted them to after all. A Contract brew is better than nothing.

I started my beer drinking weekend out Friday night at 7:00 PM drinking with @GreenBayBA and @Chaz Had a great time. We drank some high ABV beers: Barleywines, A few nice Barrel aged beers from 3 Sheeps, Plus Bocks of course. After I got home I kept drinking beer till 2:00 AM. Got up at 7:30 AM and felt surprisingly good. Got ready and drove to Eau Claire WI. Arrived at The Northern Tap as they opened at 11:00 AM. Had pizza and a pour of NG Cabin Fever and Modist Olde Omen Bock. Next I went to Woodmans and amazingly did not buy a single beer but loaded the trunk up with groceries.

Next I went to Brewing Projekt taproom and a full pour of Sleepy Bear. A dark lager at 9.5% ABV. It was good but not great, This tasted better on the cold side before the marshmallow flavor kicked in . Smooth, Nice Smoke, nice light roast and chocolate. Thin body for a big beer. I think it should be called Smokey Bear. Bought a 4 pack of Totally -Not- Evil and Tip Top Maibock for home
    https://untappd.com/b/the-brewing-projekt-sleepy-bear/4769613

Drove home unloaded the car and and went to bed at 8:00 pm got up at Midnight and started drinking some beers. I am drinking a can of Totally -Not- Evil Doppelboch now.

It's good, Kinda tastes like a brown ale, just smoother and a little sweeter. Lightly roasted/heavily toasted malt. some chocolate and caramel, and maybe hint of dark fruit with a kiss of honey on the finish.
