Onto round 2, enjoying a chill Sunday afternoon with some good tunes and beers. Still have a couple of Powder Days in the beer fridge and is tasting good!
The first tune is from The Pumpkins. Will always remember one of Da Boss and my first timeshare weeks and we were staying at the Marriot in Park City, Utah June 1997, which coincided with the Chicago Bulls - Utah Jazz NBA Finals series. No lie, the Chicago Bulls are staying at our resort and so i am in the crowd to see them come off the bus and i glance at the guy i am standing next to and i could not believe it was Billy Corgan of The Pumpkins who at the time was hanging with Dennis Rodman. Struck up a small talk conversation with him in which he was super chill...guess he wanted to see the flip side of life of the rich and famous!

This album took so long to click with me, but man, it's among Gabriel's best. Would put Up 3rd behind PG III (Melt) and PG IV (Security). Rumors circulating (again) about a possible new album from him....20 years in the making...

 

Fogtown Brewing, Night Nurse American Stout

It's a kind of cool, cloudy day here in New England, rain starting, spent most of the day working on my cars. What better way to end the day than with a fabulous, deeply rich Night Nurse American Stout from Fogtown?

This beer is billed as a 'chocolate' stout, but it's no pastry beer. Deep dark brown/black color, modest but rich, thick head, and a smell that promises lots of malt and roasted barley. The taste follows the smell - rich, rich, rich. Luxurious. It's made with oats and dark chocolate, but it's not a 'sweet' beer - just serious, and seriously satisfying. The dark chocolate is in the background, enough to know it's there but without turning it into a Hostess cupcake special (though nothing wrong with that when you're in the mood for a sweet milk stout), and the oats give it a smoothness many stouts lack.

It's been a few months since I've had a Night Nurse. I won't make the mistake of waiting that long again. I hope Fogtown still has some more cans the next time I visit.
