    Happy Saturday!

Today's WBAYDN comes from Casterton, a town of about 2000 people in western Victoria, near the South Australian border in the beautiful land of Oz.

The beer is from Belgium - De Struise Brewers' Black Albert, a 13% ABV imperial stout monster. Doesn't quite fit the Australian rural setting, but the Aussie beers will flow later.

    Cheers!

Cheers and thanks for opening the new day @AzfromOz with such beautiful landscape shots and beer.

I finished the new Bond film and a trip to vinoville and am back and catching up on some Blacklist episodes whilst enjoying a late night ......................................

This one is Mouth of the South from Brewmanity, a brewery that donates its profits to research for Motor Neurone Disease. I think you Americans used to call it Lou Gherig's (sp?) disease, but don't quote me on that.

The top of an old Massey Ferguson tractor in one shot and the rising moon in another.

It's a beautiful mid autumn evening here in Oz. The kookaburras are laughing, the cockatoos are screaming and the magpies are warbling. What more can you ask?

    Cheers!

Mate, if you're supplying the shrimp (aka prawns in Australian), let me know where and when and I'll be there!

    Cheers!

Good day BAs! The dinosaurs are singing in the trees - as usual I was up before them - and the first beer of the day is history! Literally, it's resurrected from retirement with a slightly different label and the usual deliciousness, today's New Breakfast Beer:

Delicious! At 14.5% ABV the alcohol is well-hidden, allowing the flavors and bourbon-barrel aging to carry the day. Overall, damn good! Rating 4.36, rdev -3.5%

Bottled 1/19/22. Poured at 54°. Always good.

Sunny, hotter (low 80s) and humid day forecast. We may take the dogs to the Saturday morning market downtown in a bit. Cheers and have a great Saturday y’all!

I’m going to the New Japan Wrestling show tonight, but will be hitting one of the best Chicago area breweries beforehand, so I’ll be posting a couple more pictures this afternoon. For now, starting with the second best breakfast beer there is (behind FBS, naturally). [IMG]
Today’s WXRT Saturday Flashback is 1976. They’ll play one of these songs. Doubt they’ll play the other.

Are you watching the movie today, sir? We did our annual viewing yesterday. That’s one of the best musicals ever, and I thought yesterday that the entire thing is a collection of music videos.

Enjoying this older saison from a now since shuttered Florida Brewery.

Saint Somewhere & Jester King Collaboration - Bouteille Vert

Full review in the New Beer Weekend #91 thread. Bottom line, this Saison held up well over the years, less honey than I would like. Would have liked to have tried fresh, but that opportunity is long gone.

Speaking of long gone, today's flashback takes us to the Bicentennial. Here are two played so far.

Bryan Ferry - Let's Stick Together

Doobie Brothers - Takin' it to the Streets

Revision's Cryptic Love, a collab with Ghost Town. Brewed with Mosaic, Galaxy, Cryo Simcoe, Cryo Mosaic
    3.78/5 rDev -5.3%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: exceptionally clear gold with lots of carbonation flow, minimal head
Smell: indiscernible subtle fruit, a little pine
Taste: mango, melon, slight pineapple on the finish. Below average bitter for the style
Mouth: medium (-) body, above average carbonation, clean dry finish. The best attribute of this beer.
Overall: On these collaboration beers, sometimes seems like the two breweries fail to merge their two visions of what the beer should be, and the lack of alignment in purpose and conflicting hop bill ends up with a muddled beer that doesn't live up to expectations. So it is with Cryptic Love.
