I'm also an introvert, so I get the OP. When I have a drink while out to eat, I generally only have 1 (or 2 max), or a flight of small pours. I like to get something new to me because I'm also a cheapskate and hate to pay $6 for something I can buy a six pack for $10 or 12 pack for $15. My wife and I go out most Friday's because I work at home and just have to get out by the end of the week. The rest of my drinking is done by sipping at home while watching whatever sports are on TV (which is great this time of year because so many choices with baseball, basketball, golf, and soccer).

Up until last week i would only drink at Stone Pasadena and that was only if they had any Barrel Aged goodies or Double Bastard asnfar as bars, taprooms yadda yadda goes

Before that it would be Sunset Beer Company which is a small bottle shop that sold singles to go but let enjoy it on site for a 2 dollar corkage fee ( haopy hour m-t 3-7pm it was waived)

I visited Homage and Highland Park Brewery because as Sunset is closing i should familiarize myself with the stupid amounts of breweries in my area. Highland Parks Stouts were horrible and the price was insulting.

Homage had great beer, horrible hipster crowd and i paid 22 dollars for a pint of IPA and an.8oz pour of horse beer for the wife or maybe it was a tripel.

    Im happier at home

I’ve recently been getting out and doing this and it’s because of the ambience and scenery sometimes social with other patrons but that’s rare. If I have more than 3 beers I’m your best friends tho and I’ll talk your ear off

I stopped drinking at bars a long time ago, the atmosphere rarely works for me.
Taprooms are a different story, regardless of the physical attributes the patrons are on the same page usually. By this I mean people are there to enjoy beer. Arguments and fights are uncommon as well as obnoxious drunks and the typical criminal elements.

Fresh draft beer is the #1 reason for me.
    Cheers.

I like hitting new breweries whenever I'm someplace new/someplace I've been with lots of breweries... and it drives my wife crazy. 120ish breweries so far (nowhere close to @PapaGoose03), but I'll get there... maybe.

Like most, just getting out of the house/a weekend social activity is the main reason to go out. We walk to 3/4 of the local breweries we regularly visit, so driving isn't an issue most of the time.

Also with some of the local spots, they are making 3-4 new beers a week, and we cant make it out every weekend. It's sometimes nice to go out and have some half pours to try a variety of beer, as opposed to always buying 4packs and drinking them at home.

I go out for the one way conversation with bartenders. I have to pay somebody to listen to me.

The built in childcare provided by the other patrons is also very convenient. It's good to take the kids out with me so I can get a break from them while enjoying my hobbies.

It's difficult drinking at home even when the kids are in school. My pet bobcat practices extreme teetotalism and usually gets enraged when he hears me opening a can. I used to tell him the can was just seltzer, but that doesn't work anymore thanks to the rise of hard seltzer.

We don't visit bars. The closest we get is a taproom with good food. We do like visiting breweries (food available a bonus). We find can get a good idea of a brewer's capabilities pretty quickly with intelligent flight choices, and if there is some special brewery only release that's usually a good thing from a brewery we like. A tour or view of the brewery is great. With my professional background, I can tell a lot about how the place is run.

I am significantly less social then my wife, but neither of enjoy crowds, loud environments, or need much in the way of social interactions at any venue.

I enjoy it. If possible I take my dog, get some food, some fresh beer and enjoy. I certainly do understand the dislike to noise and rudeness, but this can be avoided with a bit of care.

I drink at home the majority of the time because I have too many bloody beers in the fridge for it to make sense to be buying and drinking other ones.

    Cheers!

    I'll answer for breweries specifically.

I like to support my local breweries. I like being able to go somewhere with my wife (almost like a date). I like the incredible selection of beers (e.g. Tree House), often much greater from that brewery than I could possibly find in the store. I like food trucks (and food culture). I like visiting "the source" (e.g. taking a trip to Hill Farmstead) as part of a greater vacation/trip. I like sampling local cultures. I like to sample the beers from a brewery that I might buy - or even send to other people.

Driving is a concern and has to factor into your overall calculus. Someone has to stay sober. That's really no different than going out to dinner for your birthday or anniversary and ensuring someone stays sober, but you definitely have to factor it in.

As far as introversion, if I'm alone, I always have headphones with me (ear buds), a phone, and often a book. My wife and I have often gone together and then each disappeared into our music and books - but together (not really all that different from how we sit together at home - physicallly near, but not always doing the same thing). We always sit far enough away from the noise that we can comfortably converse and be close - or if that's not possible in that environment, we don't go back.

I even wear my ear buds while shopping, especially for beer; I do not need middle management giving me unsolicited recommendations on beer or wine, well-intended though they may be. I know what I'm looking for, and how to find it; please leave me alone.

Check out The Sun. It is a venerable periodical from Chapel Hill that is simply outstanding. I read it cover to cover the day I receive the beloved monthly. Read some online to see.....

It's the experience. I'm very much a romantic when it comes to this; it's the beauty of the bar, the connection to this social tradition of drinking together that stretches back thousands of years. I love the conversation, seeing the long line of taps and watching the beer pour invitingly from their spouts, receiving a towering mug and clinking it with a friend. I love meeting the owner and learning firsthand what went into the beer I'm drinking.

I do still drink at home, with my embarrassingly large collection of glasses, but I also travel a lot for work, and I never miss a chance to sit in at a taproom.

Google Maps says we've apparently missed the opportunity to drive across the ice to get there (or maybe there are no roads?). We'll have to hold off the planning for the trip until the Northwestern Passage freezes again.

Having been a bartender for years in a really cool locale back in the early 70s , I love the bar scene. The Pickwick's jukebox favorites were Take Five, Margaritaville (later), Suzie Q, I Saw Her Standing There, Doctor My Eyes, and several great Louis Armstrong tunes. The crowd was very diverse in a college town, and the best place I've ever been part of. These days I talk to bartenders to see how much they care about people. And to have some good local draft.

I coincidentally brought my kids into a brewery last week. But had the sense that once they started fussing and screaming when the cake I brought them in was gone, took beers to go outside along with them

Going out is very important to me, not just to grab a beer here or there, but going out to dinner or breakfast, or just to pick up a coffee. I’m privileged to have the extra income for such things as well as to live in a place with a plethora of options for aforementioned experiences. It’s nice to go to places you’ve been to before and love and new places you want to try. It’s also nice to see and experience new things and people.

I think the introvert and extrovert dichotomy is whack. Sometimes I’m more introverted and sometimes more extroverted. But even when I’m feeling introverted, I’d still rather head out and see and do things that aren’t in my controlled space. Being home is too predictable. Gets dull. And I love my home (and, luckily, the people there). But, ultimately, humans are social creatures. Even if I don’t talk to the majority of them, I still find them interesting.
