Anyone want to offer their thoughts on Hand of Glory? Saw it ended up as a leftover, so not just invitational attendees got to try it. It's always in demand, and I've never tried to seek it out given that it seems difficult to obtain. Curious on the feedback from this community.

I didn't think I was a fan of it at the invitational. It was served too cold and I probably just got done drinking my 6th triple adjunct stout before I tried it. Just didn't care for the notes i was getting when i took that first sip. I was excited to see it at the cellar soon after so I made it a goal to get there to revisit it and to give it a fair shake. I'm sure glad I did! It is a top notch barelywine. I was able to enjoy the 3oz I had over the course of 20 min or so. Fresh palate and proper temp goes a long way. Who woulda thunk? Lol

Really enjoyed it at the invitational, although I agree w/ @not2quick that it was served too cold. Also probably helped that I had it way later after MJK & Kent the Otter, which blew away other BW there. Solid non-adjuncted BW for sure!

I have tried it, but I'm still a little surprised at the near-universal love (and associated trade value) that Kent the Otter has received. It's rare (these days) to see a BA barleywine at such a low ABV (10.4% per untappd) receive such high marks. It's basically the other end of the spectrum of MJK, although obviously those are two very different beers.

Hopefully no one reads into this too much. I'm a huge from of the old BCBBW (KH and 13/14), and those are lower than most (around 12%). So, I don't have something against low ABV BWs, but as a whole the beer community seems to favor high ABV beers over low ABV beers.

Had the 2020 version, it was okay. I had it in a barleywine share and it ranked towards the bottom end (King Henry, VSOJ, B5K, Arcane Rituals, Private Press, Moksa Final Forms, Anabasis, etc.). Secondary on it seems to be around 100-150, but I'd say it drinks more like a $75 beer at best. I've had a few Holy Mountain stuff now (God is 7, Hazelnut/Vanilla MS, Midnight Still, Hazelnut/Cacao MS, CCV MS), all of them were pretty disappointing. I personally think Holy Mountain is a bit overrated.

I've had a previous batch of HoG and also had it at the fest....I don't get the hype.

There's certainly nothing wrong with it but i've enjoyed BA Vermillion, Anabasis, DHOG, Kent, VSOJ, shit...regular straight jacket, Agates....all more than HoG.

Don't want to turn this into a Holy Mountain thread haha, but I had it last year, so it was 3 years old by then, so probably past its prime. Felt it was too thin and think the MS base is too smoky for me.

Yea I had that one a few years ago and it’s still probably the best hazelnut beer I’ve ever had, and I’m in the Horus club lol

I was really, really hoping we would see a DB generational release this week. My sadness is growing.

The only thoughtful amount of hazelnut is zero hazelnut.

If SP only did non-BA beers, they could give you a nod and name a base stout or porter

    Nul Noisette

You just have to imagine it in that fancy swoopy , curved lettering with a textured and raised label. Obviously can’t use such a fancy name under the shared label, so no hope for this one.

    (My) Pillows is live.

Might be the first beer I've seen in Untappd tagged as "salty" and "milk", which is just piquing my curiosity even more.

I guess we’re in a release drought again. My wallet thanks the supply chain issues.

For most of the past two years LC has gotten a “new beer” email every week or every other week. Since BBT (late October) until March we had like 5 beers. In March we got 5 emails. Since then, nothing.

    Whiplash.

I didn’t realize it was that many emails in March. Guess I shouldn’t complain too much lol
