As per usual, throw out the Untappd ratings for clear Hop Butcher beers. Cccclear IPA is really damn good

Been a bit since I've bought a HB beer. Bit on this tonight though. Definitely not disappointed. Mostly I'm disappointed that I'll be compelled to buy Double Grid this week too.

Google shows Hop Butcher to be “temporarily closed”. Any truth to this?

That is specific to the Lincoln Avenue facility they purchased from Half Acre. It is not open yet. Opening TBD.

I believe that is in reference to the new taproom which should be opening soon.

Like their beers, it generally takes new Hop Butcher locations a few weeks to get rid of the green flavor and be drinkable.

List of places you can find HB on draft (& cans to-go):
    https://www.hopbutcher.com/findourbeer

Most of the on-draft places listed are in the burbs, with specific town noted, but 4 are in the city proper:
    Beer Temple (Avondale)
    Village Tap (Roscoe Village)
Centennial Crafted Beer & Eatery (River North)
    Franklin Tap (downtown/Loop)

According to untappd, Beer Temple is the only one of these that currently has HB on draft (Roughspun nedipa). That works because Beer Temple is the most recommended craft bar in Chicago. If you're hunting haze, Roughspun appears to be their only haze option atm, but Maplewood's taproom is nearby if that's your thing. If you're into lagers, Beer Temple has a Goldfinger lager on draft (Bohemian Pilsner), and Dovetail's taproom isn't far. Dovetail has been considered Chicago's best lager producer, with newcomer Goldfinger now challenging. fyi- Beer Temple has a connected bottle shop.

Currently no HB, but appears Village Tap has some nice Phase Three options right now (2 hazies, WCIPA, imp porter *that drinks like a stout*), plus Dovetail Lager which is Dovetail's house lager (described as a Franconian-inspired pale lager, it just might be my favorite beer!). It's on special as the beer of the month, but that would mean the discount ends after today...

Centennial & Franklin Tap currently have Hop Butcher cans for on-premise, with Centennial allowing cans to-go. Centennial's website list is current, but hasn't updated untappd in a few weeks. Apparently, growlers & to-go btl/can purchases are 50% off right now...
    https://www.centennialchicago.com/
Note, even after 50% discount, it would still be cheaper per can to purchase HB in retail at places like Binny's, Beer Temple (taproom/shop), Bitter Pops (taproom/shop), Bottles & Cans (all btls/cans sold as singles), etc.

As mentioined, HB acquired Half Acre's original brewery/taproom, and the taproom opening is still forthcoming. Maybe @FullNelson88 can shed some light on the current status? Word is he may or may not be a part of their marketing team

I saw the bar tables getting delivered to the Lincoln Taproom via Jude's story. Hopefully this is pretty close to opening...

I also tried Riwakamania last night and I gotta say it's pretty mediocre, unfortunately. Not nearly as flavorful as as the Riwaka Pants from Maplewood. Not a bad beer, just not worth a buy IMO. Although maybe it'll come into its own in a week or two, granted its super fresh.

Sometimes these hazies need a week in the fridge to round into form because they are just too fresh and/or green. I wish that weren’t the case, but thats just how it goes until brewers can afford centrifuges.
Have you had another can of Riwakamania since?

I’ll say the same thing about Alemerica as I did about Beer Hates Astronauts a few weeks ago. Alemerica is as good as ever.

The hand picked crop of mosaic seems a bit different this year, but this crop still works beautifully. I’ve said this since ‘17. (when the malt character modernizes away from Alpha King malt character) THIS is the closest HB ever got to making a Firestone Walker style IPA (FW makes my favorite IPAs). It feels like Union Jack malt with a mosaic bomb on top. This is the kind of beer I show to aliens when they ask me what modern APA tastes like. It’s got the sneaky sneaky ninja malt that really creates the balance missing from so many takes on modern APA today
