    Der Bock = heller Bock

Das Bier (also with Land as a descriptor) = helles Bier.

    @herrburgess , do I pass? :wink:

Bock is masculine so it gets the -er ending in the nominative (Heller Bock); Bier is neuter so it gets the -es ending in the nominative (Helles (Land)bier)

don't ask about the accusative, dative, or subjunctive 1&2 pls.

@zid -- thanks for bumping this thread I'd forgotten (been a crazy couple weeks).

I have a six-pack of Sprecher Maibock coming my way and I'll be on the hunt for HB Maibock this coming week.

I'll also be visiting my favorite local next week and while they haven't mentioned a Maibock yet, I have fingers crossed!

FWIW -- Fruhlingsfest Munich: April 28 thru May 8.

It saw light distribution . It’s an interesting one. Quite a bit of color for what I expected would be a maibock. I guess they didn’t call it maibock, they called it spring Bock, so Ill put that aside. Once you pour it, you’ll see the color is closer to a vienna lager. Overall though, I think quality was excellent. Half Acre lagers have improved over the last 3 years. An oddball for sure, but I wasn’t mad about it.

It's even worse than you thought - check out the "BRAND NAME" the importer - Doyna, Ltd (< winner of "The Least Informative Beer Website" award) - listed for the TTB COLA for their beers. :astonished:

I forget now what other imported beers Doyna brings in (seems they've popped up in other threads - should check the TTB site) - looks like they're the kind of business that has both a Federal Importer permit and local NY and NJ wholesale licenses.

There are a few words that companies use that often imply (to me, at least) just the opposite - including "Elite" but also "Sophisticated" "Luxury/Luxurious" and especially "Classy".

When I read them, I think, "If your were that, you wouldn't have to say it..."

Oh, yeah. That's right - "Ripped from today's Headlines!"

I think Baltika has been imported by a number of companies in recent years (maybe more than one at time, a once common occurrence with "US regional" contracts between breweries and US importers). Total Beverage Solutions in SC was the Baltika importer a few years back.

Just checked and the HA is in stock at the spot I'm gonna hit Tuesday. However, it's on the high side of my budget limit, so others may take precedence.

So... Stopped at the Lake Zurich Binny's tonight, looked around for the HA Spring Bock (and any other Maibock) -- nada.

Finally found an associate and asked, "Let me check our system -- nothing here." Okay, but it's listed on your website.

    Blank stare.

That Binny's used to have good beer folk. Guess I don't have to go there anymore.

Binny's. I used to get beers shipped from them.

And the Binny's closer to home had 4 different local seasonal Bocks. Go figure.

But still no HB Maibock. Beer guy says he's checking every week because the Winter Spezial sold so well.

Crazy how 2 stores in the same chain can have such different customer attention.

Resuscitating the thread a little with Half Acre Spring Bock. Canned 3.22.22, 6.8 ABV.

L -- Clear, dark copper color with a sudsy, cream-colored head that settles quickly.

S -- Herbal hops up front with the lightest of clay-like, earthy malt aroma.

T -- Nutty to lightly roasty malts with spicy-bitter, herbal hops in tow. Bread crust malts in the finish with more herbal hops in the aftertaste. There's a dark fruit (cherry-like) ester that runs through the backbone of this beer, but the spicy hops dominate with sweetish, bready malts as runner-up.

M -- Mouthfeel is lightly syrupy to smooth with a medium body.

O -- A very nice Traditional Bock with good German influence and an Ami hop-rate with traditional German hops. My favorite Half Acre, so far.

    More Brewing Bartlett Maibock.
Sorry no picture this time, my camera didn't want to focus, for some reason.

No canning date found, 6.2 ABV, poured into my tall Becher.

L -- Clear, deep gold with a sudsy, off-white head that holds up well and leaves good lacing.

S -- Mellow, herbal hops and light, doughy malts.

T -- A quick hit of herbal hops up front that folds into doughy, bready, lightly sweet malts. Herbal hops in the aftertaste and into finish. Lightly bitter and well-balanced.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a chewy, light-medium body.

O -- Great rendition of what I expect in a Maibock; rich malt without being cloying and just the right noble hop character and bitterness in balance.

    Yes, More please.

Well, I went out and picked up a Paulaner Variety Pack, so I that I could have some Salvator for Fruhlingsfest. It's April 28 in Munich right now, so time for some Salvator.

    Bottle Best By: 2022-aug (L22115)
    Temp at Pour: 50s F

    Look:
Clear but dark reddish-hued copper. Upon opening the bottle(s), the beer began to foam up but on the pour very little head formed and what did dissipated completely to almost nothing. After a couple of sips, the head was gone. Completely.

    Smell:
Quite sweet and also malty. Dark fruits, toffee, and some lightly toasted caramel. Notes of honey and sugar such as a light brown sugar.

    Taste:
Definitely sweet, but not as sweet as the nose. Dark fruits and toasted caramel. There is an noticeable underlying earthiness that is lightly bitter.

    Feel:
Smooth and slick. Somewhat syrupy. The body is on the full side of medium.

    Overall:
A solid doppelbock that is on the sweet side. In some respects, it reminds me of an Old Ale.

    Einbecker Ur-Bock Dunkel

    1.5 x 0.33L Bottles
    Bottle Best By: ??? (L4081109)
    Glassware: 0.5 L Pokal
    Temp at Pour: upper 58.5 F / 14.7 C

    Look:
Nice copper color with a 1.5" off white head. The head slowly dissipates to about a 1/8" consistent cover, even after a sip has been taken

    Smell:
Very malty and bready with some notes of toast. There is also a grassy element. Reminds me of an amped-up Marzen.

    Taste:
Follows the nose. Toasted bread and toasted toffee. The grassy notes become a nice hop note that balances out the malt, dries things out quite a bit and leaves a dry bite on the aftertaste almost similar to a German pilsner. The bite grows as more of the beer is consumed.

    Feel:
Smooth but with that aforementioned dryness at the end. Body is medium with a lean to towards the heavy side.

    Overall:
An interesting beer. It actually reminds me of some American made Maibocks that I have had - an amped-up Oktoberfest (Marzen or Festbier) with extra hops to provide balance and some bite. There is a real dipole of flavor (malts and hops) but overall it is rather uncomplicated and easy to drink. I like it.
