    Schneeeule - Yasmin

Berliner Weiße with jasmin blossoms, from Germany (3.5%).

Pours a slightly cloudy, golden amber coloration with a tiny, fizzy head that soon disappears. Smells of light doughy malt and estery hints of green apple and gooseberry, as well as just a hint of jasmin and funk.

Taste is a great balance of light doughy malt, estery fruit notes of green apple and gooseberry, hints of cheesy funk and some very subtle, floral jasmin accents, as well as a great underlying lactic, citric acidity. Finishes with a medium tartness and some fruity esters, funk and subtle jasmin lingering in the afteratste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light body and medium carbonation.

A very nice traditional Berliner Weisse, which is a rare find nowadays in a sea of fruited "Berliner Weisse", with the brett clearly showing through here with some subtle, funky accents. The jasmin is even more subtle though, perhaps a bit too subtle, actually, being barely detectable, but still adding just a little something to the beer.

Maybe that's what they are going for and I can understand wanting to keep it subtle, but I would have wished for it to come through just a tad more. In any case, this makes for a very well-balanced and refreshing example of the style that stays true to its traditional roots.

First up is another beer courtesy of @Ozzylizard

Smashing Cherry Blonde by Hoppin' Frog
    [IMG]
Mostly clear, light orange with a finger of medium density head that receded to a thin cap. The aroma is too much for me. It may have more nuance to some, but for me all I smell is strong cough syrup. On the tongue, cherry takes the lead, but not for long. Right behind it is some nice, musty funk that balances out the cherry well. That said, the more I'm drinking it, the more I can't escape the cough syrup taste. The Hoppin' Frog beers I've had so far have all been very good, but this one is a miss for me.

    Ferment's Doug the Dark CDA

Black with a small head climbing the glass. Smell is roasty toasty and pine resin. Some kind of a sweetness that reminds me of plums.

Taste is similar, less plummy, actually somewhat mild or non-assertive.

Mouthfeel is medium. Very nice, surprisingly relaxing.

Very clear, light straw color. Slightly over aggressive pour resulted in loads of dense, white head. Very good retention and outstanding lacing. Aroma is biscuits, grass & grain. Taste is herbs, grass, cracker and a really nice bit of peppery spice on the back end. Smooth, light and crisp. Perfect beer to enjoy outside on a nice day.

    -----------------
Side note that I need more lagers in my life. Sometimes it's nice to just drink a light, crisp, tasty beer.

Well, if you have ready access to Fox Farm, that shouldn't be too difficult for you. I'm a fan of the brewery.

    Schneeeule - Irmgard

Berliner Weiße with ginger and lemon, orange and pomegranate peel, from Germany (3.5%).

Pours a slightly cloudy, pale golden coloration with a tiny, fizzy head that soon disappears. Smells of doughy malt, hints of fruity esters, with notes of apple and apricot, as well as a distinct ginger aroma.

Taste follows the nose, with a great balance of doughy malt, estery fruit, with apple and apricot accents, as well as a distinct ginger character and strong underlying lactic, citric acidity, which adds a certain lemony presence as well. Finishes with a strong tartness and some ginger and lime lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light body and medium carbonation.

This has got to be one of my new favorites from Schneeeule, I have no idea why it took me so long to try this as I love ginger, which is coming through very nicely here, stronger than the jasmin in Yasmin, without feeling overbearing but leaving a little, spicy tickle on the tongue. The ginger also goes really well with the strong lemony sourness here, invoking ginger and lime, while those fruity esters and subtle funk that are typical for Schneeeule get a little lost in this mix though.

So while this feels a little less traditional than their beers typically do, with the lemony sourness perhaps being just a tad overdone, it's still a great brew in its own right, if you like ginger and lime, that is.

16oz can mfr date 3/14/22 into a pint glass.
L: Pours a slightly yeast hazed dark lemon yellow w/a 3/4" white head that recedes to thick skin, well carbonated, even lacing, banding & sheeting.
S: Pineapple, white bread, light berries, light citrus.
T: Lemon grass, lemon zest, yeast, pine resin, light honey, light melon, wildflowers, a hint of bread. Hops go wide and it is overall light.
F: Clean, smooth, slick and lightly fluffy medium light bodied mouth feel w/a long lingering finish that is moderately drying.
O: This beer is fairly light & bitter overall. Very easy drinking, well carbonated throughout with a broad yet delicate taste of lemon citrus. It is very refreshing and drinks like a session IPA. It is excellent in it's style.

My favorite people to hang with over the weekend...I'm drinking one earlier today because the boys are sleeping over Gigi and Opa's house, that means a peaceful evening around the house and a nice slow morning. Time to celebrate with a beer courtesy of BIF 15 in the form of @colts9016 just wanting to share some beer. I mention a lot but spring weather like today screams hefeweizen to me and luckily I had one in the fridge from a fellow beer lover.

Hoping to get a few more in this weekend for that LIF @Roy_Hobbs, here is #1.

    Sunriver - Hefeweizen

Pours a nice cloudy straw/yellow, head settles to opaque white but this thing is lacing really really nicely.

Aroma is not very hefeweizen like but it smells quite pleasant. It has an almost lemon like citrus aroma that is paired with a little bit of banana. There is just a little hint of a spiced bread on the nose as well, I'm getting this from the can, harder to pick up from the glass.

The taste is again a little less hefe like than your average but wow is it incredibly tasty and refreshing. The spiced bread note is a little more prominent followed by some citrus like hops and a slight hint of bubble gum like flavor.

Very light and easy to drink, soft creamy, but not low, carbonation and almost spice like bitter note on the finish. This thing drinks incredibly clean for a hefeweizen.

Overall I really do enjoy this beer a lot, despite not tasting like your average hefeweizen. Its the beer I wanted in this weather. What I like about this beer is how easy it is to drink, its almost reminds me of a kolsch in the sense that it is drinking more like a lager than a hefeweizen. But it retains just enough hefe-ness to let you know what it is. Really cool, interesting and tasty beer. Thanks for the great ninja strike Jammin, love it.

Slightly hazy amber, small head. Smell is nutty, woody, earthy hops.

Taste is earthy bitterness, wood, toasted bread.

Mouthfeel is medium and very dry. Overall, nice.

I've been wanting to visit this little brewery for years, but between his limited hours and my schedule, never made it work until today.

That is one awesome looking spot, I just looked at other google images too. Essentially just a converted house to brewery, or do they still live there? Neat stuff.

Edit: Saw their slogan "I want my Fn beer..." well done...

Yeah, that's one of the breweries I've wanted to hit for a fair while too. I know Jim casually, and I keep promising to come check it out. I really like that barrel beer the do where as soon as they empty the barrel, they refill it, and the barrel picks up all the characteristics of the various brews.

They turned the garage into their tasting room, and the brewery is a shed out back. Only open a few hours a week (maybe Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons?). And, yup, that's their house where they live.

A whiff of the bottle after prying off the cap and uncorking the bottle brought immediate notes of white grape and mild barnyard funk. The pour produced an initial nice white head that quickly faded to a faint wisp sitting atop a somewhat cloudy, peach and nectarine colored body; the head 'grew' a bit while opening up, a bit thicker, still thin, yet having some great retention. There is more of a horse blanket smell (not overpowering, just prevalent) with a lesser degree of white wine; there is also an herbal / lemongrass / hay element reaching my nose; a very light touch of citrus. The taste emboldens the citrus elements; lemon, grapefruit, orange; still some white grape / wine notes lurking in the background; nicely tart; not much malt presence noted, perhaps a very slight touch of wheat. Generally heavy mouthfeel; sharp and acidic on the palate; some very nice coarseness from the carbonation; citrus juiciness with a bit of dryness around the finish.

The head actually is larger and longer lasting on subsequent pours, so I've bumped up my original score of 4.0 accordingly. This is a well-crafted beer, interesting in its use of a local grape varietal, and skillful use of blending and oak-aging techniques. This is apparently the first of more beers like this, utilizing local grapes and spontaneous fermentation with the base beer. If they're as good as this one, those lucky enough to score them will be in for a real treat.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

...this 'mystery beer' thing is a lot of fun, trying to determine what kind of beer is behind all the paper, tape, and foil...

Such a fresh new beer that I get to add it to the BA database

Brewers notes: our 11th anniversary ipa blends a west coast ipa featuring galaxy , simcoe and centennial hops with muscat grapes for a twisted hybrid that’s packed. With sweet tropical fruit flavor …

Frothy two finger off white sticky foam cap, good retention , settles to a solid layer with sticky lacings over a crystal clear golden liquid with active carbonation streams

Aroma is pine and orange citrus rind

Taste is a mild pine , orang citrus, orange rind

Clean, crisp, gentle hop nibble , medium sudsing

Dark amber, slightly hazy. Smell is woody and earhy bitter.

Taste is lots of wood, more of that earthy bitter, don't know how to describe the slight sweetness.

Mouthfeel is very dry, medium to light. Overall, good beer.
