Kern River Just Outstanding IPA. Thought I reviewed this before, but I guess not. 2/11/22 canning. Amazing IPA. Lasting head and lacing. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, passion fruit, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, pepper, pine, wheat, bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-medium pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body. Creamy/bready malts, some sticky hops, and light resins in the mouthfeel. Soft finish with lingering resin dryness and no hop astringency. Minimal warming 6.8% or hop burn after the finish. Amazing Simcoe and Amarillo profile. Super juicy hops with some dank and earthy notes, and a soft hazy malt backbone. Loved the hop profile as expected. 4.4

Kern River Citra, another one I thought I had before. I guess after 10k beers it happens:grimacing:. Canned 3/17/22. Amazing DIPA. Aromas and flavors of huge passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, tangerine, red grapefruit, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, cracker, bread dough, light honey/toast, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good sized pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body. Balanced creamy/grainy malts and sticky/resinous hops in the mouthfeel. Long resinous drying finish with mild astringency. Mild increasing warmth of 8.5%, a bit of hop burn. Super juicy, dank, and earthy hops; with a good sized malt backbone. Top tier west coast style, aggressive yet smooth. 4.35

Yup, yet another from @Roy_Hobbs unrestricted hits on my liver during NBS BIF #15, Votive Imperial Stout, from Fox Farm. As mentioned above, I really like this brewery. This brew is very hot and boozy. I suggest letting yours sit a few months, but it is a very nice brew: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45832/598200/

Greetings, fellow NBWers, on this cloudy, mid-50s day in Spokanistan that is known as Bloomsday,

Okay, so, weeks ago, I received Box #1 from @Rub_This_BBQ as part of my allotment of NBS BIF #15.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...ed-bif-14-hell-no.665859/page-36#post-7496515
Then I received Box # 2 from him roughly two weeks ago. Almost immediately afterwards, I managed to lose my smartphone. So I had no way of properly posting what I'd received from him on the official reveal day.

I foolishly thought I could recover said lost phone, so I put off getting a new one. Once I conceded it was gone forever, UPS then took 6 days to provide my replacement via the promised 2- Day shipping, so I didn't actually get a new phone until this last Wednesday, and my provider did not include a SIM card, so I wasn't able to actually use the damn thing until Thursday.

What follows is a photographic reenactment of Box #2:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...ed-bif-14-hell-no.665859/page-77#post-7517871

One of the mystery beers in the latter post is now being consumed, with details to follow.

I based the look on the initial pour and it looked great, after the 2nd pour I had some doubts, used a spoon to sample the floaties, watered town and soggy peanut butter....

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass canned on 4/19/22. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves webs of lace with amazing retention. 5

Aroma mango, peach, passionfruit, mandarin, and apricot. 4.25

Taste is much bolder and better passionfruit, mango, peach, mandarin, and apricot. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, not sticky or dry, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, and 8.3% it goes down extremely easy. 4.75

Overall it is odd, I liked the smell but loved the taste much more. Highly recommend this one. 4.5 Recommend for sure.

Enjoyed several new beers last night but didn't get a chance to post here as we were enjoying them with friends around the firepit. First new beer today is Backpack Beer, from Conshohocken Brewing Company.

Light copper and quite clear. Head was about an inch of loose off-white foam that didn't last particularly long. Certainly not a bad looking beer, but nothing jumps out at me either. Aroma has plenty of pleasant yeast notes, along with banana and maybe some clove. Good smelling beer.

Taste largely follows the nose, with the banana / yeast leading the way. There's a hint of spice on the finish, but not much. Feel is a bit on the thin side.

Overall, solid beer. I really like wheat beers, and while I wouldn't go out of my way to get this, that's not a knock on it. It's a solid beer that I could easily envision enjoying a few of...even better if it's in their taproom.

    -----------------------
Side Note: I rated this as a good, but not great beer. Then I realized I drank it faster than just about any beer I've had recently, and I really enjoyed it. Maybe sometimes the technical rating doesn't actually match the "how much do I want to drink this". Should it?

A - Very nice clarity, Deep honey colored backdrop, cant hide gentle carbonation activity. A thin cap quickly transforms to an ever present ring .
S - Oranges, peeling tangerines at lunch. a bit of light malts, wheat maybe?
T - Follows the nose well, orange, tangerine, a bit of white pepper, delicate in all aspects.
    M - Light in body, a bit crisp,with a clean finish.
O - A very nice pale ale billed as an NEIPA. Advertising aside, this is a loveley pale ale. Citrusy, light and well executed.

Hello NBW! I have only one new beer today, but luckily it is a doozy.

Haven't been buying much Clown Shoes since they were purchased by Harpoon, but since they were one of my first craft beer imprints, I figured I owe it to them to see how their journey's been going. Though this has been around for quite a while, I believe it was originally a regional variant that CS made to celebrate distribution to a new state or something... luckily it is now more widely-available. A Fistful of Unidragon features mesquite-smoked malts and is aged in bourbon barrels, clocking in at 10.5% ABV.

Pour is, as y'all can see, quite great. A mysterious dark beer topped with a huge head of dark brown suds, leaving behind some nice lace as it slowly sinks to a solid finger with good retention and legs. The surface is still completely obscured by foam even after ten or so minutes in my glass. Letting this one open up a bit seemed appropriate, after all.

The nose is sweet-leaning with notes of caramel and toffee blended with a hint of roast and smoky grains that pop out here and there. Some slight notes of fennel and anise here as well, along with perhaps some earthy tobacco undertones and some leather. Interesting.

First sip is big, bold, and definitely fairly sweet. Tasty, with hints of chocolate and licorice blended with strong toffee flavors. The smokiness hits in the mid-palate, and though it makes things feel somewhat more complex and interesting, it also feels a bit inhibitory to my enjoyment. It has a savory feel to it that disrupts the overarching sweetness that seemed to be building up, and the balance isn't quite there to me overall. Kind of want more tannic interest from the barrel, as the finish seems a bit dry and dusty. Feel is good; tarry, thick, dense, and somewhat fudgy with a lot of the typical RIS elements coming into play (low-ish carbonation, intense flavors)... not one I would revisit I don't think, but it's worth a shot.

Time for more new beer as always.

Poured from the bottle into a branded Founders Barrel Aged series elongated tulip glass. Bottled 2/22/2022.

Creamed up classic top, light mocha colored with a big sheet on top. Looks like a dollop of milkshake ice cream on top sitting on a simple dark walnut brown nearly black body. Classic looking and great looking KBS as usual.

Delicious aroma. Big amounts of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, and a shocking amount of roasted nut that seems to cover a lot of territory, hazelnut, peanut, even pecans. Not a hint of heat coming off of this. The only thing is that there is a big hint of rich round character, but if I didn't know this was KBS already I would have a hard time thinking from the nose this was barrel aged. Much of the barrel hinting notes are very much obscured by this bold thick excellent flavor, otherwise it's fantastic.

Palate comes with unexpected twists. Surprisingly light bodied, but full of flavor with some unexpected angles. Classic roast coffee, with rich milky tones less of dark chocolate than I associate with KBS. Dense sensing notes of more of wood than nuts, but light touches on toasted nuts that gets more into wood and bark flavors, but nicely without tannic dryness. Again not much hint of barrel notes, but there's a touch of boozy warmth but not easily picked up what it is.

It's not my favorite variant of KBS, but it still has it's character with some minor losses.

It's always exciting to finally drink a a long-time White Whale. For reasons unknown, Dieu du Ciel doesn't distribute Péché Mortel to northern New Jersey. It appears to materialize in South Jersey from time to time and New York and Pennsylvania gets it but the stars never aligned for me until yesterday when I bought several bottles in Penna. These are 12 oz. bottles - I've seen BAs drink bombers on WBAYDN. In any event I'm now officially in the club. It's a great dry, bitter coffee stout. I'm already planning to purchase more.

Bottled on 1/27/2022. Poured into a stout glass at 59°. It pours nearly black with a half finger of creamy, toffee-colored head and lacing. It smells of freshly-brewed coffee, dark chocolate, leather, tobacco smoke, and nutty char. The coffee in the flavor is strong, burnt, and acidic. It combines with baker's chocolate, burnt nuts, and earthy char and is as dry and roasty as they come. There is just a hint of chocolate and caramel sweetness but this is a bitter brew. The flavors are big and bold and it finishes with a strong dose of hop bitterness. Delicious! The mouthfeel is creamy but not quite as viscous as I'd expected. It's moderately carbonated and isn't overly boozy for 9.5% ABV. Overall, this is the quintessential coffee stout. I'd recommend against drinking it before bed if you want to sleep.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bomber of this before. The only DDC bottles available here that aren’t 341ml twist-off caps are 750ml bottles of their wild stuff. I wonder if they bottle differently for the US market.

Pours a deep brown that's almost cola-like. Just a faint bit of light gets through, mostly around the edges. Plenty of coffee ice cream colored head with good retention and lacing. Aroma has notes of grain, nuts, pumpernickel, and light roast.

Taste follows the nose. Malt and yeast work well together, and the flavor really follows the nose. Nice dry, roasted finish with very little bitterness. Feel is fairly light and on the lower end of the carbonation scale.

Overall I'm really enjoying this one. Plenty of flavor for 3.8% ABV. Exactly the kind of beer you'd knock back a few of while watching a game at the local pub with your friends.
