Years and years ago (1999) I stumbled across a dusty six-pack of Brauerei Hürlimann’s Caesarus Imperator Hellerbock at some woebegone packie in Western Massachusetts.

Granted, most lagers don’t age very well, (and the brewery had closed down just a few years before). But this lighter colored, “little brother” of Sammichlaus was 12.5% ABV, and I was thrilled to find it.

$14.99 in 1999 dollars, and worth every penny.

I did find a 2016 Firestone Sucaba last year at a liqour store and paid 8 dollars for it. Its no whale but so what
. Thats about as exciting as it gets for me

Edit: i also went to a shooting range 2 hours north from here and stopped at a liquor store on way back i had been to once. They had a whole area of beer at 50% off. Most of it was shit like Oskar Blues GKnight, Stone Enjoy After and that old shit. I pulled an Avery Hog Heaven Barleywine and Stone Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout from it. I had grabbed a Bruery 2016 So Happens Its Tuesday bottle from the regular shelves ,but being the devil that i am i told the lady that was also on the 50% off shelf. Got it for like 9 dollars or someshit.

 

Thats douchey. Karma catches up.

Found a 2007 jw Lee's a few years back. Came across an Avery black tot a few weeks ago. I couldn't find it in myself to buy it.

 

Ardea was brewery only. Nothing went to distro. I was at the Ardea release & know the CW staff personally. Fairly certain Ardea was never shelfie beer.

 

I would bet reselling the Ardea.

 

So are we just calling each other out here or is someone else gonna share some good stories about dusty whales?

 

When they started allowing bars and restaurants to seek beer to go here duding the pandemic, one older beer bar/ restaurant had Lou Pepe Kriek for take away at about C$40. I think it was ‘14 sticker. I missed it, but i know of some guys who got one. The best I managed was three bottles of ‘18 Vigneronne for C$38 each.

 

That is dumb.

5 or 6 years ago I was in NYC with time on my hands because my wife had to go for a class. Stopped into a random shop I came across in Brooklyn and they had bombers of 2012 BCBS Coffee gathering dust on the top shelf.
