Show us you favorite stein.

@ATL6245 I love you for this thread. Long story short my grandparents were stationed in Germany in the 50s and 60s and brought home a crap ton of steins. My strung out cousin took them all and pawned them. Consequently that side of my family doesn't understand why I dislike them so much... anyway, here is a shot of current stoneware mugs. Not sure if youd call them steins but whatever. Technically most are tankard, and there are a few more tankards not pictured.

 

Brought this back as a souvenir from Munich. Not sure if it counts, it's just a mini. But I like looking at it, not crazy about drinking out of steins, mugs, etc.

 

And somebody left this little mug in their trash the other day, along with a whole bunch of beer glassware...

 

I have a habit of buying one every year I make it to the Colorado Renaissance Festival.

This was my great-grandfather’s. He probably got it after emigrating, as he and his two brothers were young boys when they were sent over. (My research hit a roadblock, if anyone has leads, please send them my way). Knowing that it was from their home town, and had been used by at least three generations before me, makes it a sentimental favorite.





I use it occasionally. Too bad the brewery closed before I could try their beer.

 

Really nice collection ,I always liked those types of steins/tankards.
Im always amazed when family screws up and they are in utter shock when someone gets mad at them.
I've worked in the field of addiction and its not taken into account how much damage is done. Money stolen,jewelry pawned, although this is a first for me hearing it was steins

My uncle, the father of the cousin who pawned the steins, pawned off my grandfather's Civil War Navy cutlass for Coke. Its a shame.

 

If I had a dollar for every story I've heard like this i could probably buy back all the stuff in every pawn shop. Its beyond a shame and sorry that happened.

 

Yikes. I hope it was a 12-pack. Nah, sorry......I've got all of my Dad's stuff from his last stint in The Philippines- including medals and commendations ( a personal letter from George Marshall). But no weapons. He swore them off......

 

My parents had a few of those that my mom shipped back from a trip overseas in the mid 1950’s. Probably German as she was at the Mercedes factory picking up a friends car, a gullwing. They traveled all over for the summer shipping things back home and eventually shipped the car back via ship.

Back to point. I ruined these when I was young due to the malleable pewter tops. It was fun bending metal in my hands. Oh well.
