I guarantee you've thought about this way more than Kuhnhenn's has.

Capacity is capacity. If places like FFF, DH, and Kuhnhenn are maximizing their capacity and selling every bottle at some point during the year they are making all the money they can (less merch and food).
IIRC FFF is running at 100%, as are the other two (or at least close). These events do nothing to the bottom line except keep the hype wheel turning and bring in more fans and buyers.
In fact, I'd guarantee their margins per bottle are smaller on these days due to temp staff/overhead increases as opposed to everyday operations.

I don't think FFF or K has any issue with selling bottles. 60% of the time I've gone in to K they haven't had any to buy. If they had issues with inventory they could distribute more too. None of which is happening.

And by the way, running a brewpub is a BIG part of smaller breweries. I'm sure FFF does well in this dept.

I think the Kuhnhenn folks have been pretty clear about the fact that they wanted these beers/meads ready for Friday. They regret that they're not. How about just cutting them a little slack and coming to the party and enjoying yourself?

EDIT: Not directed at anyone in particular, just to be clear.

Sure they won't be collecting all the money at one event/release but if they had a seperate KRE release on a random Saturday in say February, a seperate BBBW release in April and a seperate release for French Toast, etc.... they'd get alot more people on those days than they usually would. So instead of having a huge crowd one day they'd have 4+ large crowds. With less bottles available each time they would be able to process the orders faster (so the customers would be less annoyed), less crowd control and they'd have more people overall coming in buying stuff on tap, etc... It would also give the locals a better chance at getting some of the beers since there's less chance of larges groups from out of town coming when there is just a few bottles being released.

I can see why they have these huge releases and some of the benefits but I'd love to see a shift to smaller releases of a single beer or just a few like Bell's does.

I would have loved to load up on Black Note, BA 9000 but I didn't hear about those until they were already being sold and it didn't make sense to drive 2+ hours each way for just a few bottles. If Bell's would have released Black Note, BA 9000, BA Cherry Stout, Wild One, and others all in one day then the 2+ hour drive would be more worthwhile. I liked how they handled the releases and I'd rather have the locals that are in there weekly have first dibs.

On the flip side, if Dark Horse just had their 4 Elf party and released 4 Elf would it have been as crazy as it was? I'm sure they made a killing that one day but if they spread the various bottles out to seperate releases I'd bet they would have made more money overall.

Yes, I stand by that. Lets say they did 1 bourbon/brandy barrel each of Nine, BBBW, and French Toast mead. Oak barrels are 53 gallons, but let's say 50.

    BBBW: (50 gal x 128 oz)/12 oz = 533 beers x $8 = $4264
    Nine: (50 gal x 128 oz)/12 oz = 533 beers x $8 = $4264
    BB French Toast: (50 gal x 128 oz)/12 oz = 533 meads x $20 = $10,660
    Raspberry Eisbock: (30 gal x 128 oz)/6 oz = 640 beers x $13 = $8,320

    Total: $27,508

Yes, this is based on guesses of production. But for illustration purposes you can see how poor planning takes big dollars out of their hands this weekend. That's all I'm saying. I'll still be there and will support them as I always do.

The point still stands....Kuhnhenn has lost absolutely nothing, but kudos for taking the time to come up with an imaginary number.
