May swing by this afternoon for some stuff to go.

any recommendations? Tempted by all of it, but thinking mostly about the heller rauch, the luxuriator, and the saison.

haven’t heard anything about their wild ales - worth it?! Someone make all my decisions for me!

Their wild beers are probably my favorite thing they do - definitely grab one. I'd suggest: HellerRauch, Luxuriator, Pilsner, Pander in Whispers (wild), Beth saison

You're also in luck, today they are releasing their ode to Orval for Orval Day -- Afterthought Brewing is having a mini-Orval bash today with a few breweries releasing Orval inspired beers (afterthought, Roaring Table, Art History, Penrose, and Solemn Oath.) RT's is called Fountain of Gold and will be available at the taproom today (I THINK just bottles to go, not on draft but I could be wrong). They had a non-bottle conditioned version on draft a little while back which I thought was great - really looking forward to trying the bottle conditioned version.

Got inspired and having another right now.

What I missed before was an herbal hop bitterness running through the backbone. Compliments (all) the malts nicely.

since I am the model of moderation, I didn’t buy fountain of gold.

but I bought all others mentioned. Thanks for the tips! Will try to report back in a couple days or minutes after I’ve had them all.

The pils is a real treat. Great balancing act of crisp and slightly bitter with a surprisingly full body or creaminess.

    the Heller Rauch, though….

Oh hell, I’ll say it. Beer of the year for me so far. Just a subtle melange of great, lagered restraint with a mystical umami that comes in as a late wave but resolves completely clean. It reminds me of going to a truly great restaurant where disparate elements are tied together in a careful tug-of-war; no one thing is allowed to overpower the other, and you get the individual characteristics delivered masterfully and then an unexpected chimera that is the sum. Ooooooh doggy. I think I’m stronger for having drank this beer. Any time a beer can give me a distinct beginning, middle, and end on the palate, I’m impressed; but to do it in a beguiling, understated way… I might be turning into a romantic again.

    Bravo!

    4 new cans this week:
    - RTB Vienna Lager
    - "All American Burger" -- "California Style" IPA (guessing a playful way to say West Coast) - debuted at B.U.G
    - "Secret Beach" - Hefeweizen, taproom favorite
    - "Just Add Baguette" - Dry-hopped Grisette (which, the bottled version from a couple years back is my favorite beer they've ever done. I'm very excited to try this batch).

Should be a great release week.

Don't miss out on Tither they Return! Its a really delicious lager. Haven't heard of a "Franconian-style Rotbier Lager" , but I am liking what I am tasting. Keep up the great work on the lager scene Roaring Table!

Is it still available? That was out back in early April.

But yeah -- a really nice beer.

Anyone tried the new "pub" ale* they put out recently? And not the ESB, which was also very nice.

    *Scamper Wagtail.

I think Thither is sold out at the brewery, but some Binnys might still have it.

The new golden pub ale, Scamper Wagtail is really nice. Can crush a few pretty easily. I like it better on ask, not that that needed to be said :stuck_out_tongue:

Fun note - Lane, the brewer, mentioned on a podcast that these traditional, english-style pub ales, who's labels and beer names are birds (Thatch Whistler, Scamper Wagtail), are actually just made-up bird names - the birds don't actually exist. I thought that was pretty funny and clever for a little niche series that they're started.

That's what I thought about the ESB, too.

Great podcast, by the way! Love those guys. It sounded like they're trying to pass the Head Brewer torch to Ryan at this point, and just focus on ownership, sales, distro and such.

Expansion was also mentioned! Apparently there's a space available next door and they're trying to take advantage of that to expand the brewery and taproom.

Oh nice, they must have mentioned it two places - I was actually referring to the Beer Temple Podcast that they were on a few weeks back - EP # 244

Found this one today and it's making for a great break in-between my usual German and Czech style lagers.

Nice balance of the different hops with a good, light, malt backbone.

So I treated myself today and bought some "Neck Beard" Porter from RT. I've been craving a bigger, maltier beer and also wanted to try something different from my new fave brewery -- other than their outstanding lagers.

Anyone have input on this one? I'll be giving it a try tomorrow and have high hopes.

Allow me to say, yeah -- Neckbeard is everything you could want in a Stout Porter. Very nice brew.
