Will be heading to Minneapolis this weekend and looking for a few suggestions on places to hit. First looking for a good beer store by Crystal, something with a good selection and good prices. What MN brews should I keep an eye out for? Any local breweries worth checking out? I enjoy a good Pils, IPA, and saisons, while my wife like BA Stouts, and IPA's. Any advice would be appreciated as Im not to familiar with the area.

I don't know the area very well, but the Hyvee in New Hope near N 42nd Avenue and Winnetka Avenue N is actually pretty solid. Pub 42 is also at that intersection and has a decent tap list.

I am a big fan of Fair State and you will be able to find a variety of styles there. They have a couple of BA stouts in bottles and a few saisons in bottles that you can purchase for on site consumption or to go.

    Also, see here and here.

G-Will liquor in Brooklyn Park is a decent shop kind of in the area. Princeton's liquor in Plymouth isn't too far off from that, also good.

Wicked Wort is just across 81 in Robinsdale. It's been a while since I've been there, but they've brewed decent IPAs in the past. Decent variety as well..

Utepils is just a bit South of Crystal. Highly recommend. Then if you go just a bit East of them, you'll have a handful of good breweries to checkout.

If you make it as far into Minneapolis as Utepils, and you should, there are a few other breweries close to them that haven't been mentioned yet. La Dona Cerveceria, Sisyphus, and Lake & Legends and I would recommend the first two over the latter.

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions guys, had a great time down in Minn / St Paul. The highlight was defiantly Barrel Theory, their IPA's are on an old school TG / Mike Saboe level.

Barrel Theory does make the best hazies around here, IMO.

Will be visiting for a few days and have narrowed it down to the following breweries:

Town Hall (Staying at the Courtyard there and need to finally try Masala Mama)
    Blackstack
Surly (Have fond memories of Furious and Abrasive and want to see that big new-ish brewery)
    Fair State
    Utepils (Big lager fan)
    Barrel Theory

Strong opinions on a brewery that’s a must add, or one you’d subtract? Will report back on my trip!

Nice list and you can walk to Town Hall try Mango Mama if on and they always have a BA offering tap I would add Waldmann since you like lagers’s , it’s right down the road from Barrel Theory.

You have a great list right there. One other I'd add is Bang. They're pretty much right between Surly and Blackstack. Tiny little brewery that I had not visited until a few weeks ago, I think their hours are a bit unpredictable. I was really impressed.

You have a great list already. You will not be disappointed at any of those. Have fun!

    Good list.

Town Hall, Fair State and Utepils all make excellent lagers.

Also mentioned. Waldmann makes awesome beers. Right next door is Bad Weather, also good.

Just depends on how much time you have.

The list is a good one. If you have time Arbeiter is worth checking, it's not to far from townhall if you have a car.

Had a fun time in Minneapolis, and managed to hit a number of breweries (though didn't make it to all the ones I wanted to get to). Definitely a great beer city! Some highlights:

Blackstack and Barrel Theory - Thought these two had the best hazies. Blackstack's perhaps leaned a bit more crisp and BT's more plush (could just be the ones I tried, though). But flip a coin-- if I had time, would have happily gone back to either.

Fair State - Wow, what lagers! Up there with the likes of Suarez and Bierstadt (whose collab with FS, Side Pull, was on and fantastic).

Surly - Have I changed or have Surly's beers changed? Probably both. I did really enjoy the snifter of 2022 Barrel-Aged Darkness, though. Was cool to finally visit their big new spot, and the pizza was good too.

Pryes - Not the top beers of the trip, but enjoyed the river location on a nice day, after biking there on the trail.

Bauhaus, Falling Knife, Modist, Town Hall - All had some very good beers. Standouts for me were FK's All Sunshine and Modist's Teal Label.

Because it's a slow work day, and because I'm gearing up for helping decide on an MLS road trip in 2023, I've taken mentions on this thread (as well as this one) and have summarized the tallies - figured to share here. For science*...

    * - "science" in this case is a loose count of mentions of a brewery. No attempt to rule out multiple mentions by same poster was made. I may have accidentally skipped (or double counted) - didn't double check, don't care.
