Staying for a few days in the French quarter. Assuming Parrish beers are easy to find? Any recommended places around French Quarter that serves decent selection of craft beers? How about bottle shops around the city overall? Will be traveling from NOLA to Destin FL and would like to take some beers along for relatives who live in Destin that we are visiting.

Stein's has an excellent selection of bottles and is a great deli.

In the deli area, you'll see two or three coolers with beers. Good selection here, but do not be fooled, this is not the extent of the collection. Out back, to your right, there's a room with many more and a much better selection.

IIRC there's a sign pointing the way, but you can always ask someone.

i was in NOLA back in October staying near the French Quarter. we didn't have a car so i walked down to Whole Foods on 300 N Broad Street with my wheeler suitcase and loaded up for the rest of our visit. i was impressed with their selection. Stein's would have been my top choice.

I recommend NOLA taproom and Courtyard (Courtyard pretty walkable from French quarter, NOLA taproom not so much)

Crescent City brewery near Jackson Square is very tourist-trappy type food and beer

NOLA brewery and taproom is great. As mentioned above, Courtyard has great beer, too. A tighter space, though. I've not been to Urban South, but have had their beer - good stuff.

    Overall, NOLA is my favorite.

No posts here in 4 months, I guess New Orleans isn't a thriving beer community or else there are no BAs there to keep us informed. Everyone who posted here is from another state.
I'll be there next month for a conference. No car, but I should have time to Uber to some of the places listed above. I will report back after my visit.

The recommendations listed above are all good. I'm in Texas, but from New Orleans and back with some frequency.

Hi, I'm heading to New Orleans for Jazz Fest next week!
Avenue pub and Courtyard brewery are two spots I'm looking to hit.

Any other beer places in or near the French Quarter I should hit?

    Thanks,
    John

I was in NoLA a couple times a few years ago. Nola brewery was very good. Urban South and Courtyard are both excellent and relatively close by the French Quarter. Crescent City was hit or miss - one visit was great, not so much the second time - at least the food; the beer was decent both times. |I wouldn't go out of my way for it but it was more than passable for a dinner. I took a bike share out to Brieux Carre and Parleaux Beer Lab one day - both of them were great, especially with a Central Market Muffaletta along for the ride.
Parish was available enough on draft that it was my go to at other places for meals. Also very good.

I live elsewhere in Louisiana and am not really an authority on the beers in New Orleans--I have likewise noticed that a lot of the New Orleans inquiries in the BA forum often have people who have visited from elsewhere responding rather than those living here. Here is another post from last year that may have a few other suggestions (and which also appears to have had a few locals replying): https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...s-during-after-ish-covid.656897/#post-7219752

My favorite two brewers in Louisiana are Parish and Gnarly Barley, neither of which are based in New Orleans, but both of which you should be able to find in bottles (Parish) and cans (Gnarly Barley) there. Courtyard Brewery is one in New Orleans that I've enjoyed, but since I don't visit New Orleans with regularity, I'll just refer you to the other recommendations in the given threads.

I was just there. Brieux Carre is still good. Central is closed for remodeling/repair, likely for some time.
Cooter Brown's has an awesome bottle list and Parish Ghost in the Machine on tap. Take the streetcar and ease.

Central Market is down for the count?????? Well, then I highly recommend Cochon Butcher's Muffaletta as a replacement. Really really good, especiialy heated. Also their Pig Mac is amazing. Just a block from the WW2 museum.

When I was staying in the French Quarter over Xmas break we walked down to Frenchman St (nice area worth visiting) and had some beers at Brieux Carre brewing. All the beers I had were quite good. Plus it was super fun to be able to just walk out the door with a tasty craft beer and head down the street without a care in the world. I was looking for Ghost in the Machine but didn’t see it served on tap anywhere I stopped. It must be very sporadic in NOLa and not a regular option perhaps.

My personal opinion of my stay in NO. Beerwise,
    Urban South>Courtyard>Meil>Crescent City.
    Overall experience
    Urban South>Meil>Crescent City>Courtyard
The bartender at Meil was awesome, even though the beers (surprisingly) were just average.
Crescent City was touristy, but the beer was ok and it had a decent vibe.
Courtyard had good beer, but the space was pretty drab. Disclaimer is that I was there at 5:00 on a rainy Wednesday. It was dead. Not sure if it gets hopping at other times. The ice cream was very good for the walk back to the hotel.
Urban South was the winner. Very good beer, nice space, engaging bartenders and the smash burger hit the spot.

Also, walking back to the hotel from Courtyard, I strolled down Bourbon St and found Ghost in the Machine on tap which was a score!

    LOL!
The first time I visited NoLA, I had the same experience. I walked over to Courtyard one day (my wife was at a work conference, we were staying across from the conference center on the river,) and had a beer or two. I was halfway down one and realized the time. I asked the guy about it, and said, "look, I'm from Massachusetts - they'd arrest you for this, so I gotta check. I can just pour the rest of this beer into that plastic cup and stroll on down the street? Cool."
    Mind = blown

Few weeks back from NOLA... I managed to hit Urban South, Bywater Brewpub, and Brieux Carre. My hotel was at the 500 block of Canal, and I managed to walk to all of them (south to Urban South, then bump back north to Bywater and Brieux Carre). It was 30 min-hour walk between each location, so nice and sobering. I'm a walker, so this wasn't far for me at all. It was just 90+ degrees, so I lingered on the sides of the street with shade.

I enjoyed everything I drank. Urban South's location is pretty large and open with a food truck, Bywater Brewpub served food (I had crawfish etouffee fried wontons), and Brieux Carre was a little NOLA hole-in-the-wall but still great.

I also did Crescent City later in the week again just because the line at Acme Oyster House was ridiculous.
