You are in a taproom with a few dozen beers. You order a favorite and you get something that is not what you ordered.
Do you ask for another beer or just drink it..hell life is too short!
It just happened to me an hour ago . Ordered a Bodhifaza and got an unknown haze beast.
I just shrugged and drank it. It was pretty good.
I could have argued but I'm chill tonight.

I'd drink it. Every now and then you get a chance for something new, and avoiding bad feeling is a bonus.

That beer is your own little secret

I'd drink it but still expect what i ordered to be brought to me. I only drink at 3-5 taprooms out here and know most people at this point so it'll never happen

As usual, it depends. Most of the time, I'd just say fuck it, say something to the slinger, and drink it. Often they won't charge for a mispour.

But, if it was something I'd really been looking for, limited, etc, I'm gonna have em swap it out for the right beer.

But man, ordering a Bodhi and getting a murkbomb? That's harsh!

Fortunately it was a rare murkster with some bitterness.
Same taproom also mixed up an Ex Novo hefe with Binary Wit.
A customer noticd but like me he was chill about it. New bartender.

I was with a friend of mine at a brewery and she wanted to get a saison that was on tap. The bartender poured her a seltzer. We were discussing how it sounded kinda interesting for the flavor combination but the conversation was just out of curiosity, not a desire to order it. I don't remember if the names were similar or not, which would explain the confusion. This was a while ago so the details have eluded me...

It was very clear it was the wrong thing when she set it down as it was kind of a lavender color. As far as I could recollect, the saison didn't have fruit or anything added to it so I asked and she had definitely poured the wrong thing.

I like to think the bartender was maybe on auto-pilot at the end of a long shift (this was close to last call) and she poured it without thinking. My friend was only slightly offended and I found the interaction amusing.

I think that was actually our first time there together (I had been separately) and we visit it on a regular basis, so no permanent harm done.

I would nicely let the bartender know when I was leaving. Maybe say, "i liked your choice anyway".

“Excuse me, I think you might have brought me the wrong beer.” No argument, bad feelings, confrontation, or offense. Just an appropriate exchange.

I'm surprised by the overthinking and lack of variety in responses so far.

But isn't it nice to get a surprise beer?

But of course it's good somebody remarks now and then, keeps the bartender vigilant to try to do it right. Complementary personalities complement.

I even might remark myself, but would let it pass say 80-90% of the cases, just for fun and and avoiding the not so fun situation, just going on.

Whether I drink a mispour or not would depend on circumstances. This happened to me a number of years ago, so my memory of the details is fuzzy, but I visited a newly-opened bistro at the local casino that had about 50 taps. I'm pretty sure that I ordered a Rayon Vert but was served something else that wasn't even close to a wild ale. I asked the server to take it back, which she did, but she brought it right back after the bartender told her that it's the correct beer. So I decided to drink it anyway. (Being newly-opened, the employees were probably all new and certainly not familiar with craft beers.)

A while later the manager stopped by making her routine rounds to see if we were enjoying our meal. I took the opportunity to exercise my DUTY to help train a neophite bartender and brought up the mispour. She went right to the bar and came back with the correct beer. By then my first beer was half drunk and I offered to pay for it but she comped it to me.

Normally I'd let a mispour slide by, but the tap list had tiered pricing and my Rayon Vert was in the highest tier. I was pretty certain that the beer that was first served to me was just an ordinary amber ale, or something like that.

Being a newly-opened place with many taps I suspect that the wrong tap handle got attached to the wrong beer line and that the bartender didn't know enough to taste the beer to validate my complaint. I haven't been back there since, but being a casino restaurant their beer prices were a bit high anyway.

Not me, I would ask for what I ordered.
I drink 1 beer a week, and it is usually a new beer. I almost always go to a brewery, order a small pour of the beer that I'm interested in and then buy a 32-oz or a 750-ml croweler if I like it.

I usually watch the beertender pour it, I do everything I can to avoid disappointments.

If you were served the wrong dinner at a restaurant would you ask "nicely" to have it changed to what you ordered or would you just eat it.

    Cheers.

You are right. I was a bartender for years and made a few mistakes and always corrected them. But still, I'm sympathetic to a tired server in a busy bar late in his shift. I still think I would possibly drink it and order what I originally ordered next. But that's just me. There is no "should" in a situation like this, except for with some.

I can think of one time I sent the wrong beers back. In 2016 I was at a pizza chain that has a large taplist. They advertised Bourbon County Brand Stout (BCBS) on tap. So I ordered one. The waitress came back with (what I'm guessing) was a Guinness. I could tell by looking it was the wrong beer, especially because they were advertising 10 ounce pours and I just got 16 ounces of something a bit thinner than BCBS. I explained to the server it was the Goose Island stout I wanted. She apologized and came back with a Goose Island IPA. Also, not exactly the correct beer. When I politely told her it was still the wrong beer she had the bartender come over to our table. I told him what I ordered and he brought me the correct beer.

So, I guess if the beer I ordered was fairly close the what I wanted I would keep it and call it an adventure. But I'm not keeping a Guinness or IPA when I ordered a BCBS.

I would only drink it if the mystery beer appears to be close to what I ordered.
If I ordered a porter and get a hazy IPA, im sending it back.
I order a imperial stout and get a brown ale, probably move on.

But customer should always be right, so I dont think anyone should feel bad sending the wrong beer back.

50/50 type of situation for me. If the server is swamped or not... If I ordered a stout and got a hefeweizen I'd ask for what I ordered. If I'm having a "Nothing really phases me" kind of day then I'd probly let it fly as long as the wrong brew was decent or a style I like.

A coupla years ago now, a former co-worker came back from the mid-West for a visit and, as is our tradition, we went to lunch at a Puerto Rican place in a nearby college town. Decided to have a beer since the town was empty (summertime, I guess?) and so we stopped into a new bar neither of us had ever been to. Place had just opened for the day and we were the only customers. We wanted something relatively light/low ABV (we both had other things to do) so we each ordered a Victory Home Grown Lager.

I'd been drinking it at a bar near my old home town, so I was surprised when it looked kinda cloudy. Took a sip. "Oh, man - this beer has gone bad!" Looked around, bartender was nowhere to be found - still doing "opening" duties. Took another sip. "Damn, I bet I know what it is - this is probably Victory Golden Monkey."

Asked the bartender next time he came around, who went down to the cellar and confirmed - wrong Victory tap handle. So, instead of a nice light 4.8% lager, we were served GM with more twice the alcohol...:grimacing:

I drink it. I spent a decade in the food business. I'm not gonna be that guy. Most bartenders will gladly replace it with no problems tho and if u bring it up like hey person this isn't what I wanted buy ima drink it anyways they'll usually comp it. mistakes happen.
