    Blech.Brut - Easter Egg

Triple New England IPA with HBC 520, Citra, Simcoe, Tango Nectar and Idaho 7 hops, from Germany (9.5%).

Pours a hazy, dark orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical/stone fruit/citrus hops, with notes of passion fruit, apricot and tangerine, as well as hints of potpourri and vanilla.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly floral and resinous hops, with strong tropical, stone fruit and lighter citrus notes of passion fruit, papaya, apricot, tangerine and grapefruit, as well as hints of potpourri, pine and vanilla. Finishes with a light bitterness and some passion, fruit, apricot, potpourri and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is the second NEIPA I've had from Blech.Brut featuring HBC 520 hops recently and that unique flavor profile stands out here just as much, maybe more due to the higher ABV, while it works a little better for me here in combination with the other hops. Sweet, juicy tropical and stone fruit notes are dominant, with that certain, floral potpourri note that kinda reminds me of Talus and, oddly enough, hints of vanilla (this does not contain lactose).

This is all balanced very nicely by some more earthy, resinous and bitter accents, making for a very enjoyable example of the style. I think we're looking at the next big NEIPA hop here, you read it here first. They are gonna slap a cool, hip name on this and it's really gonna take off. I would really love to try an IPA single-hopped with HBC 520 sometime.

Next up is Boundary Bay - Multiplayer Guild Collab a Cold IPA brewed in collaboration with Gruff Brewing Co.
Pours a mostly clear bright golden color. Thick, frothy white head forms then quickly dissipates. Aroma has notes of ripe tropical fruits - mango, papaya, berries, and strawberry - with some honey and light hoppy notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of orange, tangerine, strawberries, berries, and a grassy hop finish. It is a very clean and crisp profile. Mild bitterness. Feel is light, crisp, and really clean. Moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall, it is a very nice Cold IPA.

6.5% wheat ale with peaches and apricots from Jackie O’s

    Canned 3-25-22 twelve ouncer.

Pours a hazy yellow. Very little initial head and no lacing.

Nose is light malt and vague apricot.

Taste is a mixed bag of peach and apricot. Saaz hops are listed but don’t offer much to the mix here. The fruits are too muted to offer more than a sample of what might have been. Instead of a tasty wheat ale, we get a watered down fruit beer.

Carbonation is weak and consequently mouthfeel seems absent.

Swing and a miss from one of my favorite breweries. “Kinda” a hard pass from now on. I kid. Definitely a hard pass. Compares unfavorably to Tröegs Peach Apricot Shebang (unfortunately only available at the brewery).

Greetings, NBW! My wife and I unexpectedly have the afternoon and evening without kids since they got invited to a sleepover, and we haven't figured out what we're going to do with that time. So, no idea what my new beer plans are this weekend. At the moment, Mrs. snaotheus is cooking for other plans this weekend, so I'm going to enjoy this nice Divine Barrel German Pils that @superspak gave me as part of his NBS BIF #15 porch bomb.

16oz can served in a tulip. Dated 10.27.21.

Pours pretty clear pale yellow with a fairly large, maybe two finger head that settles prettily into some thick cottony lacing and a layer that is about half fluffy pillows and half thin skin of head. Smell is grassy, honeysuckle, and grain tea.

Taste is quite bitter, tons of cut grass, maybe a little lemon, with a nice slow grainy finish.

Mouthfeel is fairly light, slightest amount of slickness. Overall, this is a very nice beer.

It was still quite good, just heavy on the oak. Interestingly, by the second and third glasses either my palate had acclimated, or I was just buzzing, as I didn't notice the oak as much.

Cloudwater - Raspberry & Passion Fruit Breeze

Fruited Kettle Sour with raspberry and passion fruit, from England (7%).

Pours an opaque, maroon red coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light doughy malt and vibrant passion fruit and raspberry notes.

Taste is an excellent balance of light doughy malt, sweet passion fruit and tart raspberry, with a great, citric underlying lactic acidity. Finishes with a medium tartness and some passion fruit and raspberry lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this doesn't have a lot of complexity to it, as is to be expected from the style, it certain has got a very fresh, natural, vibrant and expressive passion fruit and raspberry character to it, with them both complemeting each other well and the raspberry perhaps standing out just a bit more. Great level of acidity as well, making for a very refreshing summer beer.

I’ve been to Atlantic City several times and really liked the ocean and boardwalk, though the crowds on weekends could be a bit much.

Sarasota’s Lido beach on the Gulf still my favorite beach, though there has been immense development the past forty years from the days we went as kids (late 70s / early 80s).

For those who miss the Shore, you may enjoy this beach and boardwalk footage from I believe Seaside filmed about sixty years ago. Great band and song back the video. Hope these small independent motels and businesses are still going strong.

Pours jet black w/ a dark brown/tan head.

Aromas of fudge brownie, cinnamon & bourbon, taste follows with a lingering booziness.

I was very apprehensive about the licorice but it is woven nicely in all the layers of flavor.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone. We’re at the lake after a 3-week absence, and the weather is BEAUTIFUL, so we’re pretty pumped. I’m getting read to throw some chicken on the Weber kettle, so that’s a perfect time for a new beer!

This first one came back with me from Columbus at the end of April, and it was canned in late January. Let’s see how it’s held up.

This beer pours a golden straw color and features a minimal amount of suspended haze under a creamy off white head that tenaciously sticks around and provides a nice amount of lacing.

The nose includes grass and a bready note and a significant lemon aroma, and the lemon is really prominent on the taste as well, balanced by a bread flavor that is more reminiscent of a fresh crescent roll.

The crisp finish is a nice cap on this really refreshing, flavorful lager.

Wander Beyond - One In Five Thousand

    Quadrupel, from England (10.3%).

Pours a clear, dark coppery coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt, brown sugar and hints of dark fruit, with notes of fig and plum.

Taste is a decent balance of bready, caramel malt, brown sugar, wild honey and dark fruit, with notes of fig and plum. Finishes with a medium sweetness and some brown suagr and dark fruit lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with amedium body and carbonation.

I've really enjoyed a lot of beers from Wander Beyond, but am starting to think that they only do fruited, sour beers really well. This Quadrupel honestly completely lacks the richness, complexity and estery yeast notes that are expected of the style, being too sweet and not greatly balanced. Despite some dark fruit from the malts, there's no estery fruit or spice to this at all, with a pretty lacklustre body and mouthfeel as well. Drain pour.

#2, this is courtesy of @BBThunderbolt and a little ongoing dance we have from NBS BIF #14. It’s like a never ending supply of fantastic beer that randomly shows up in a very unrandom manner.

    Makes perfect sense.

An aggressive pour reveals a crystal clear golden colored beer with a foamy white head. Gorgeous beer. The nose features tendrils of smoke accompanied by a nice bready malt aroma and a hint of grass.

The smoke is more developed on the taste, but doesn’t overwhelm the beer, allowing the bread and grass flavors to shine as well.

A crisp mouthfeel works well with this deftly executed Rauch Helles. What a magnificent brewery Chuckanut is.

I am always ready to try a Dortmunder lager. Sadly, this style is difficult to find; even the German breweries seldom export their versions to the US. I was surprised to see this one from a Minnesota brewery while visiting Destin, Florida recently. This one has all the hallmarks of the style: deep golden pour, semisweet flavors of fresh bread, and slightly higher alcohol content than a Helles lager. Hugely quaffable and refreshing, this rivals Great Lakes' Dortmunder Gold.

I can only wish that more breweries would attempt this style.

    Brauerei Kundmüller - Weiherer Schwärzla

    English Stout from Germany (5.8%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of roasted, slightly caramelly malt, herbal hops and hints of chocolate, dark fruit and licorice.

Taste is a great balance of roasted, grainy, slightly caramelly malt, herbal, earthy hops and some chocolate, as well as hints of dark fruit (raisin, plum), licorice and tobacco. Finishes with a medium bitterness ands some roasted malt, herbal hops and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

A really nice, roasted and bitter Stout with a great balance of roasted, grainy malt, bitter herbal hops and hints of toffee sweetness, with some caramel malt, chocolate and lighter dark fruit, licorice and tobacco adding some complexity here, with a great richness and body/mouthfeel for the ABV. Just another terrific example of its style from Kundmüller at a very reasonable price. I just wish I could buy their stuff locally more often.

Pours black with a tight, creamy dark tan head that lingers. The nose is sweet milk chocolate and rich peanut butter - and maybe a little more chocolate and peanut butter when you think they’ve faded away.

The milk chocolate flavor is up front, around back, and every angle in between, with a rich peanut butter flavor jumping in mid-palate and hanging around for the rich, creamy mouthfeel finish.

This is a peanut butter cup for beer nerds, and a beer I’d revisit regularly. Delicious stuff, IMHO.

This was a gift from family member who resides in Iowa, gateway to Nebraska, for those geographically impaired. I will admit that this is beyond its "best by" date, and might have been worse had it been fresh. That being said.....TG's S'mores Pastry Stout.....

The pour was gorgeous, thick, black and slow, great big fluffy light brown head that lasted all of a minute or two. Great aromas brought back memories of backyard campouts 60 years ago, marshmallows, graham crackers, Hershey's chocolate. Ya know what, the beer tastes exactly like it smells. It's sickly sweet. If this beer hadn't been a gift, it would have been a drain pour. Mouthfeel, fine, smooth, creamy and not a bubble of carbonation after the original flurry of activity. As much as I love Imperial Stouts, I hated this one.
Edit: This eventually got dumped, as in drain pour, about 4oz.....
