Back home now, second beer of today, another new one. I saw this one pop up locally in a store I've never been to but being as it is a favorite style I drove the fifteen minutes when I had a chance. We shall see if the drive was worth my time...

    Schilling - Rennsteig (5.4 % schwarzbier)

Pours a deep dark brown, bubbly soppy looking light brown head. Settle to a thin opaque head that becomes less dense as you go towards the center, nice lacing from the initial head.

The nose has a chalky dry smell to it; it includes some crunch thick and slightly toasted bread crust, coffee breath, some combination of things is making me even say something reminiscent of faint tobacco smoke.

The taste is so pleasantly balanced it has a rich bread crust quality to it with a little bit coffee, think watered down gas station coffee, and a really nice touch of roastiness on the finish to round it out; imagine just burning something till you see the first sign of black. The nose was interesting and sort of all over, the taste is the opposite, straightforward simple, pleasant, and balanced. Love the little roast at the end.

This verges on medium body for me, with a very smooth carbonation, soft mouth-coating roast presence. I expected maybe a little roast driven bitterness but I'm really not picking any up. Medium dry finish.

This beer is the perfect example of why this is one of my favorite styles. It drinks so easy and has just the perfect roast presence. It drinks like a pale lager but has just that perfect amount of extra depth to it.

I'm very very happy that Schilling's beers seem to be showing up a little more often these days. Oh and on a side note, I love all there labels, very aesthetically pleasing to me.

We got a pretty busy Saturday in this thread so far which has been very nice. Looking forward to the rest of the beers we share this weekend.

Thanks to @Shanex for kicking things off. We have been looking through our Rick Steves book on France and are planning to drive from the north (Versailles or Mont Saint-Michel down to Montpellier in late June/early July. Should be awesome!

First new beer for the weekend is Blessed from Anchorage. Big BA stout coming in at 15.5% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours jet black with insanely dark brown head. The head disappeared within seconds, leaving an array of very small coconut chunks floating on top. Looks fantastic.

The nose is absolutely insane. Thick layers of vanilla, coconut, bourbon, chocolate, toffee, marshmallow, a touch of maple, figs, and more sweet fudge. This is definitely on the sweet side, but it just smells thick and creamy.

The taste is marvelous. In addition to the vanilla, fudge, coconut, and bourbon, some of the roasted malts from the base stouts comes through. Marshmallow and some dark fruit. The coconut is definitely on the toasted side, at least that is what comes through. Some burnt toffee, a touch of coffee grounds, and some oak bitterness on the back end. Overall, this hits all the senses and makes for a great ride. Not overly sweet on the taste.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Long aftertaste. Overall, a fantastic BA stout. Cheers all!

Can poured into a snifter produces a frothy three finger foam cap over a hazy burgundy liquid, spotty lacings, good retention settles to an island and ring

    Aroma is raspberry jam

Taste is raspberry, strawberry , little bit of blueberry and blackberry that bursts with fruit flavor

Sweet with a lactic tang tartness , fruit smoothie

I’ve had this style in Berlin, wasn’t a huge fan. Then Trillium released their take on this style. Trillium really nails this style, good beer, recommended

    Pour Man's Brewing Foltzenator Doppelbock

16oz undated can poured into a becher glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label. The beer pours bright medium amber with minimal khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and some tiny bubbles. The aroma is mild with sweet bread, burnt sugar caramel and nutty malt. The taste is semisweet toasted malt with nutty and caramel flavors interwoven before a moderately bitter, earthy finish. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, good. Clean and well balanced.

    Cheers all!

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass not sure when it was canned. Pours a very attractive hazy orange with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace with nice retention. 4.5

Aroma is apricot, tangerine, peach, mango, and a little grapefruit rind. 4.25

Taste follows apricot, tangerine, peach, mango, and a little grapefruit bitterness. 4.25

Mouthfeel is pretty big, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 12.2% it is loaded with flavor, but goes down rather easy. 4.5

Overall this is really good stuff. Wish I knew when it was canned, but who cares because this is a massive and well made brew. 4.25

Dark mahogany red and brown body; clear; dense, lively carbonation; thick, frothy light khaki colored head. Rich, nut-like aroma; moderate maltiness. The taste amplifies the aroma; richer malt sweetness; cocoa notes; light to moderate hop bitterness. Medium body; lightly coarse from the carbonation; gently warm; moderately sweet feel overall.

A nice, tasty beer with a warm malt flavor and nice, balanced hop bitterness.
