Medium amber colored body, clear; fair carbonation; nice head, one-finger thick and lasting, a bit sticky inside the glass. Nice sweet, grainy aroma; not overly complex. Excellent flavor, sweet; vanilla and brown sugar evident; moderate hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body; mildly coarse on the palate; sticky; mild warmth.

I suppose one would call this a pastry cream ale. The can label indicates vanilla and brown sugar are used. Their presence is evident yet not over-powering. The beer is pretty tasty although it also seems a bit watery overall. A bit too sweet for my personal tastes, but I wouldn't turn down another one.

...had a failing HDD on my laptop, so replaced it with a solid state drive (SSD) this morning...reinstalled Windows 11 and most of my productivity software, partitioned the drive and now restoring all my photographs and music files...this 'pastry' cream ale helps while away the time...

Makai mango reef. Great blonde ale. Aromas and flavors of mango, lemon, pear, wheat, bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, lt pepper/clove/banana, yeast earth. Lt bitter and tart/tangy fruit/yeast finish. Creamy/grainy/sticky lt med body. Fairly crisp/clean with lingering drying. Refreshing and flavorful. Not a ton of mango but complimenting to the base American blonde. Spot on style. No complaints. 4

    New brewery for me

    #58 rated ipa on BA

Brewers Notes: A full-blown “West Coast” IPA chocked full of sticky hop resins. Melrose is brewed with American 2-row malt and a touch of Canadian “honey” malt to accentuate the tropical and citrusy flavors of the Simcoe and Amarillo hops. This beer is generously dry hopped for an over-the-top aromatic experience.

Clear golden liquid , numerous active micro carbonation streams , capped by an off white one finger frothy foam cap , spotty lacings

Aroma is citrus orange, tropical fruits

Taste is orange citrus , pine, hint of tropical fruit

Mouthfeel is sudsy, Trademark west coast hop bite , crisp , clean

    Good beer

Poured from a 16oz can stamped Best By 8/31/22 to a Pils glass at fridge temp.
A medium pour yields a large overflowing white head. The body is fairly deep gold for a Helles, light for a Bock. Tiny nucleated bubbles rise hypnotically throughout the session. Lacing is pretty good and consistent, but not amazing.
The aroma is both grassy and malty.
The taste is quite malt forward. Front end is sweet, a hint of the grass aroma, but the malt rules the mid and finish. Only on the swallow do any hop notes appear.
The mouthfeel is light and carbonation is medium. I actually think this beer would be better with even more carbonation.
A unique beer with no bad notes.

Good Afternoon everyone! Hope all of our US based BAs are enjoying this lovely Memorial Day. This year I am reminded of the many military lives lost not on the battlefield, but back here at home because of what they went through on the battlefield whether through complications, health issues, homelessness or suicide. It's important to remember all of the lives lost, even the ones it's easy to forget about.

Anyway, I finished up yard work and some household tasks so I have an hour or so of down time before the in-laws all show up for a cookout. I opened a beer I was really excited to review and a perfect lawnmower beer. However I finished the first one before I could review it, so this is number 2 ... New Glarus - 22 Pils.

Pours a crystal clear golden color. Incredibly effervescent which feeds a lovely velvety, but thinner white head. Head is never more than a couple fingers thick, but shows incredible retention of that thin head with a nice layer of velvety foam always present on the beer. Aroma has notes of bready malt, cracker, white bread, with a light sweetness. There is a certain minerality coming through on the nose along with some spicy, grassy hops.

Taste follows the nose with a clean crisp malt backbone. Notes of white bread, crackery malt, and straw come across the palate with a light malty sweetness. Then the hops come into the palate with a surprisingly bracing bitterness that has notes of spicy, peppery dried grass. The bitterness lingers on the palate. Feel is light, crisp, and bright. Moderate carbonation. Very dry finish.

Overall it is a lovely pilsner and a nice reminder that New Glarus can produce top notch beers. Hopefully this eventually goes from brewery exclusive to wider distribution.

Beautiful pale yellow body; vibrant carbonation; thick, spongy white head; fat fingers and partial sheets of foam down the glass. A nice grassy and floral hop bouquet on the nose. Mild cereal grain base with a balancing presence of hop bitterness; fresh hay and light bread crust; a slight citrus presence. Medium body; gently tingly on the palate; slightly dry mouthfeel overall.

This beer is clean and crisp, full of nuanced scents and tastes. It seems almost like a west coast IPA yet has its own unique and hard to describe take on things. Perhaps it's the rice used with this IPA. Regardless, very tasty and very satisfying.

No, no, no. His head runneth over! No mousse like firmness. No two inch rise over the rim. No layered intrigue. No Bobby Brown swoosh angle. Face it: Not everyone is destined for the Head Hall of Fame. I’ve seen only one or two weak contenders to the “pearls” that you create. That’s my opinion, and I stand by it!

12oz can into a pint glass.
L: Pours med-light straw yellow w/some yeast haze and a thin fizzy white head w/no retention. Good carbonation, no lacing.
S: Mango, peach, yeast, lightly floral, caramelized malts, the distinctive Cream Ale aroma.
T: Mango, caramelized malts, gently sweet, yeast, a hint of bread, a suggestion of pear, light hops in the middle then light bitterness towards the end. Good balance of fruit.
F: Crisp then smooth & creamy, med-bodied mouth feel w/a clean med-fast finish that is lightly drying.
O: A good tasting fruity cream ale that is quite well balanced. The mango seems to enhance the dry finish. It is lightly yeasty, refreshing and easy drinking it is very good in it's style.

The next few beers are all going be the "same" beer. First off I am doing a side by side of Wherein Time and Space which was a collaboration brew between Is/Was Brewing and Supermoon Beer Company. It is a hoppy saison brewed with cascade and willamette hops. One version was brewed by the brewers at Is/Was Brewing and bottled there, the other was brewed at Is/Was Brewing and then taken to Supermoon where it was refermented with their house culture and then bottled there. I am also going to open the third version which is the Is/Was Brewing version but bottled with Brett.

First up- the Is/Was Brewing version:

Pours a cloudy, essentially opaque bright orange color. Thick, frothy, hilly white head forms on the beer, then slowly dissolves leaving ridges and valleys of foam on the beer. The aroma has notes of earthy, woody hops bringing with them some subtle orange and citrus. along with that comes some funky yeast notes, a touch of cracked peppercorn, floral notes and some aged hops.

Taste follows the nose with the cascade and willamette hops dominating the flavor profile - there are earthy, woody notes with some tangerine and citrus. There is also some pine coming through from the cascade. Along with that comes some floral notes, coriander, black pepper and some light yeasty notes. This is called a hoppy saison - its almost a Belgian pale ale thanks to how hoppy Feel is light to medium bodied. Bright, lively carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

    Overall a lovely hoppy saison.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25 = 4.23 (rDev 0%)

Next up is the Supermoon version:

Pours a cloudy, but not quite opaque golden color. Thick, frothy white foamy head forms on the beer, lingering, and never fully dissipating. The aroma has notes of earthy, herbal hops. For whatever reason I am getting more of the Williamette hops on the nose in this version. There are also clear nots of aged hops, some funky yeast and a touch of peppery notes.

Taste follows the nose with the hops bringing in dank herbal notes, some catty hops, pine, wood, and some peppery, grassy hop notes giving way to those aged, dried hops coming through on the back end. The finish is dry, woody, and moderately bitter. Feel is light to medium bodied. Smooth, with bright carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall a very nice hoppy saison.

Solid amber body, clear; bountiful slow-rising carbonation; thick, billowy white head. Pleasant aroma of cereal grain and mild caramel notes; light spiciness for depth. Nice, subtle toasted malt backbone; mild hop bitterness; mild spiciness. Medium-light body; crisp; some residual sugar notes; light dryness throughout.

This is an enjoyable amber lager, light malt character with a bolder hop presence.

I knew three guys killed in Viet Nam. And my Dad was a second lieutenant in the army in the late action in The Philippines, particularly Leyte Bay. He was everything but killed- wounded twice, malaria, diptheria, dengue fever, and was sent back after recovering in San Francisco. He only lived 58 years and the war truly shortened his life. He told me all about it just before he died. The M-1 was what changed things on the ground. He brought all of his men out of that mess alive and I have many letters from the guys in his platoon. He hated guns the rest of his life He would not let me go to Viet Nam, but I drew 305 in the lottery

Beautiful golden straw color that you can easily see through with a sudsy white head that dissipates pretty quickly from two fingers worth to a thin layer at the top of the beer.

The nose has some citrus (lemon) and lots of cereal grains - and honey, which is a nice touch. This drinks really clean, with the lemon and cereal grains up front, and the slight honey sweetness at the back of the palate.

Nicely crisp mouthfeel, there’s a reason I plowed through a can poured into my shaker pint in like 8 minutes - this is a really well executed lager that is a pleasure to drink on a late spring day.

12oz can enjoy by 8/1/22 into a Spiegelau glass.
L: Pours clear deep, radiant gold w/a 2+ inch off white semi-rocky head w/very good retention down to thick chunks. Good carbonation w/large bubbles. Random sticky lacing.
S: Guava, graham cracker, a sensation of bread, lightly soapy, floral & tropical, light alcohol as the beer warms.
T: Lightly sweet, caramelized malts, over ripe orange zest, passion fruit, guava, lightly earthy, honey, lightly bready, gently resinous.
F: Clean med-bodied mouth feel w/a gently drying smooth finish. Bitterness goes wide at end.

Pours that beautiful mahogany brown that I associate so closely to the best barleywines, and there’s a nice tan head atop a slightly murky body.

There’s a nice molasses note up front on the nose, but there’s also loads of stone fruit - especially tart dark cherries. Didn’t expect that.

And that tart dark cherry flavor is front and center on the taste, along with that rich molasses flavor. This is NOT your father’s barleywine, but with its rich, full mouthfeel and edgy flavor profile, it is truly a pleasure to drink.
