not till august, so too late for HotD. Would like to hit up Cascade for sours and otherwise into IPAs.

Yeah, no kids at Apex (or Beermongers across the street). And yes, Bailey's (RIP) and Santeria are both permanently closed.

Kids are allowed at Cascade. Wayfinder is a good recommendation. They focus on lagers, but usually have a couple IPAs as well. Upright also allows kids, and you'll find some mixed fermentation sours there, along with a couple IPAs and some other less popular/common styles. John's Marketplace on Powell has a large food cart pod, so you can grab a beer inside and hang out there. Some good food options too. There's limited seating inside, but not sure if kids are allowed to sit inside. Belmont Station used to allow kids in the taproom before 7, but I've never seen kids in there. Not sure if that's changed since COVID. Little Beast allows kids, and they have a great outdoor area if it's a nice day. Hopworks is also kid friendly.

That's what I got off the top of my head, but there are more options. We used to have a "Visiting Portland with kids" thread, but I'm sure that's extremely outdated now.

thanks for the recommendations!! I'm sure I'll have more questions as it gets closer, but for now - is Great Notion a good option? It looks like the tap room has a kids menu...

Any idea when the Logsdon place in Portland is set to open?

We're spending a night in Portland, then heading to Crater Lake for a couple days. Back in Portland for 3 nights and then spending a night at Cannon Beach. Sounds like Pelican and the other places in Cannon Beach are not that great? Hopefully can swing a stop at De Garde on the way though.

Ive never been to their physical location but their beers are fine, and their darker beers seem to get a lot of love. I don't think you'd have a hard time enjoying yourself with a visit there

I guess one other point of reference that would be helpful is when you were last here in Portland so we can point you in the direction of what's new and worthy.

I'm sure Great Notion is fine, but the most active members in this forum aren't the most enthusiastic about them, their shtick and their beers. If their beers catch your fancy (based on description) and the reviews of food are promising, go for it.

If you do like spontaneously fermented beers, try not to miss de Garde. You could ostensibly squeeze in a stop for bottles by adding Cape Meares or Cape Lookout to your itinerary, or , alternatively, buy bottles at shops around town. Belmont Station usually has a decent selection.

If you've got days on your itinerary that involve Crater Lake and Cannon Beach, the natural beauty will make warm piss palatable (only slightly exaggerating here).

As for Crater Lake - as your dates near, do check on the weather and snow levels so you can plan your drive there. Our first trip there, I was flummoxed by massive snow drifts in June. This winter and spring have been quite wet here.

I think Pelican beers are generally good, and their barrel aged offerings can hit world class status. the canon beach location is one of the most scenic brewpubs in the state and a great place to go with dogs/kids. their core lineup probably wont blow your socks off, but drinking an Updrift IPA while gazing upon Haystack rock sounds pretty good to me

Agreed. I prefer the Pacific City location, right on the beach. Plus you have the Cape Kiwanda sand dune to unleash your inner child and act a fool. Love it there.

I think you're thinking of the Pacific City location. I haven't been to the Cannon Beach spot yet, but from the looks of it, it's a block off the beach, and the pictures don't look like there's a beach view. But the Pacific City location is arguably the best brewpub location/view in the United States, maybe the world.

I was going to upload a pic from my trip Friday, but they apparently don't make it very easy to do on this site.

If you are heading to CB de garde is a must if you are willing to go the less direct route to CB, probably add an hour to your trip they have somewhat limited hours so check ahead. Tillamook creamery is fun and kids can get ice cream. Pelican in Pacific City is the better choice and is the one right on the water and an amazing beach, but can be a shit show. Fort George is about 45 minutes north in Astoria, great place great beers cool town. That part of the coast is pretty magical.

    Thanks, all!

I was there in 2013. RIP to Bailey's Tap Room, Santeria and Pok Pok from that trip. I really enjoyed Cascade and Apex, and a return trip to Ground Kontrol is a must do.

So far the food options I'm looking at (my wife and I are pescetarian, my daughter is a picky omnivore) are:
    Apizza Scholls
    Fried Egg I’m In Love
    Salt and Straw
    Matta food truck
    Dirty Lettuce
    Malka
    Nimblefish

hopefully means the wildfires won't be as bad this summer? we've been nervous that they ruin some of our park visits, we're heading to WA for a week after OR and hoping to cross off some national parks up there too but sounds like both Crater Lake and Mt Rainier had it bad last year?

Yeah, that's a great view too. Oregon has two of the best brewpub views in the world. I still think Pelican wins out because you can usually see Haystack rock and Cape Kiwanda, even on crappy days. At Solera, unless it's July/August, there's always a chance the mountain will be completely obscured by clouds.

For those who care about such things, Loyal Legion currently has 25 different B15 beers on tap. I haven't seen that many B15 beers on tap at one time, even at B15.

Portland Beer Week is coming up next week! June 17-25. Is it worth doing a breakout thread for? I'm wondering what events are the essentials, or what anyone is eyeballing. Looks like Belmont Station has something on just about every day!

I had the same question. I was looking at the beerweek website yesterday and was completely underwhelmed by the event line-up. The Spile and Spigot: Cask and firkin festival on 6/25 at Steeplejack was the only event that I thought might be interesting. I didn't see anything from Belmont Station.

Also, the website indicates that beer week runs from 6/11 through 6/26. @aventinus? is it possible you might have been looking at the events from a previous year?

Seattle Beer Week was pretty light on events last month, I can see a lot of places still being apprehensive about having big events on top of the regular crowds, what with Covid lingering around and numbers starting to rise.
