Good luck man. Agree that it's a strong offer. Been tough to get people to part with it...at least here on BA.

Thank you for the insight, always very helpful! Had no idea their newer releases were trading at that level. Not really surprised to hear the older stuff has risen in value, can't be alot of them left out there.

How big of a plus would Assassin '22 need to land a DB Generational?

Curious on this as well. I threw an offer up here of Assassin '22 + DB Toasted BCS + another bottle in the ~$30 range and got nada. Not sure how that might have fared on FB, but that's territory in which I will never tread. At this point, I'm content to drink two bottles of Assassin, as it's my first time with any vintage of the beer and I found it to be pretty outstanding in its own right.

Your issue here is probably the DB Toasted. It was so widely available, and still is some places, even at or close to retail. I personally enjoyed it, but I know a lot have panned that beer. I also like ECTB though. /shrug

That said, my DB Generational got drank almost immediately so I wasn't tempted to trade it for a haul. It's a spectacular beer. Worth what it'll take to trade for one? I dk about all that. To be transparent, I've actively been trying to land an Assassin '22, but think I'm moving on with life at this point. Seems to be the beer everyone is currently trying to one up the other guy trying to get one.

What do you all think about Hill Farmstead Madness and Civilization 15, Arthur Foudre, and Balaton 2020 for Assassin 22?

These 3 are currently available at Hill Farmstead. Even if they weren’t you would still be short. Art foudre and balaton are probably cost +5 or 10. I think it would take a 5 or 6:1 of currently available Hill Farmstead to close Assassin ‘22.

Is Mgh for man’s greatest hospital?

Ahh oh well. Though I have plenty more to offer, hf and beyond, I guess I just drink what I have in regards to bottles! Someone posted a tree House case of hazies for 22 +, seeing that I live near TH I’ll go that route as opposed to giving up HF bottles.

    Thank you!

Ngl, seeing the current Ft for assassin 22, doesn’t seem like a terrible trade. Regardless, I’ll move on!

Someone in a prevoius thread posted what I thought was an excellent commentary regarding trade value when it comes to highly sought after beers. Often times, the quality of the beer itself is almost completely secondary in terms of the beer's value. Original cost, scarcity, reputation, perception and secondary market value are all important factors that traders take into account when considering the "value" of a highly sought after beer.

In terms of Assasin, I was recently able to try the 2021 version on tap in Minnesota. At least to my palate, it was a considerable disappointment. I was expecting something absolutely sublime and it was anything but. I tried it side by side with 2 other new to me BA stouts, and the Assasin, while good, was the least impressive beer in the bunch.

But none of that matters... the fact remains that the beer has a fantastic reputation, is expensive and very hard to come by, and routinely commands a high price on the secondary market. Your offer of the HF beers for a 22 Assasin sounds like a reasonable offer to you and me (if one is simply objectively comparing the amount of enjoyment to be derived from drinking these different beers), but in my experience @Affinity's assessment is spot one.

    Good luck!

I can't like this commentary enough. @John_M you are so right that the best beers are not always the ones with the highest secondary value or scarcity. I wish more people on the Trade Value thread would ask questions like, "I like non-adjunct BA stouts and I have these bottles. What is a beer that tastes great that my beers would fairly trade for?" Instead most people want the same thing from the same 3 or 4 breweries.

I get it and I've been there, sometimes the heart wants what it wants. But, the trades that have brought me the most joy are the ones where I discovered a beer that I was not expecting to blow my socks off that totally changes my perspective on a brewery. I've had all the whales 2x over and I still find myself getting more excited by a BIF than a whale trade. I'll still keep trading for big beers, but more and more I find myself venturing out to try new stuff from up and coming breweries. Cheers to you @John_M.

A buddy is about to lock in a DB Jesus on Spacebook for me. Any tips on value? Was told it was a $40 5+yrs ago. Anyone confirm? Figure it should trade about $100 in value?

Since you are the only person in the world ISO you can probably set the trade value. 100 for any non-collaboration Evil Twin seems generous.

Especially since you can be almost positive that it is...past it's prime. I have to think that people that have one of these mostly forgot they even had it.

I think I traded a Fundamental Observation for DB Jesus a couple years back, so $100 is being generous. Maybe not many out there, so if you're looking for the tick of BA Top 250, sometimes you gotta do silly things to get it.

The owner of DB Jesus is in luck, I love doing silly things to secure old beer!

I'm probably better off tagging the beer as retired, but sincei have a lead....
