https://www.instagram.com/p/CeUCxSbOBQc/ Per their Instagram, they reopened today. Limited seating, beverages, and hours to start. Hours: 12-9, maybe later hours on the weekends. Beverages: No drafts, but they have cans/bottles, margaritas, maybe hard alcohol (I wasn’t sure about this). Drafts will be next week. Seating: Upstairs bar is open, plus picnic tables outside. Not sure when the upstairs restaurant will reopen, and the downstairs is being renovated with a new vibe. Food: Full food menu. I realize this may not be exciting to some, but us older beer geeks (at least this one) will look forward to seeing what they’re like after 2+ years.
That's great news! I'm looking forward to revisiting. Redbones was one of the early craft beer supporters in the Boston area. They hosted some of the first NERAX events as well as other craft beer events. In the past they regularly offered cask ale. Here's hoping they bring it back!
The hand pump was still there. It was the first “beer bar” I ever went to. I remember going there and thinking, “Holy shit, this bar has Duvel!”
Have they not been open? Could have sworn I saw them on some of the food delivery apps. In addition to the beer, they were the first decent BBQ joint that I knew of in Boston.
Haven't been in years but was very surprised when I tried to go a few weeks ago and they were still doing takeout only. Renovations beginning now? Lol. Page out of the Alchemist playbook. Congrats to them for surviving regardless!
This place was a rite of passage for a BBQ loving, homebrewing kid from suburbia back in the early 90’s. I’ll never forget eating smoked ribs and drinking a Chimay on draft for the first time.
Back when they were cash only and Davis Square was nowheresville! Remember the walk of shame to the ATM near the T station?
Remember the "secret" non menu item of buffalo shrimp? Glad to see them back but hopefully a bit improved as IMO, they had gone down quite a bit prior to Covid.
Their annual Northwest Beer Fest in the early '00s was always a great event - though it also spoke to the dearth of decent New England breweries at the time. IIRC most of the beer for the fest were hoppy ones. Haven't been in ~ 5 yrs, looking forward to a return once they're really up and going.
Sitting at the grill, Corn Custard, Greens, Bantor with the cooking team Wife from Memphis roots opened a gate with the team So many memories Cheers to them all
I'd forgotten about those Northwest Beer Fests. Always a fantastic time. Lots of breweries you would never see out here. I went to a seated Belgian beer dinner in Redbone's basement in 2004. Still have the menu. The pours were CBC Grand Cru, Allagash Curieux, The Tap Scheherezade, CBC Tripel Threat, Allagash Four, and St Bernardus Abt 12. Big pours of everything. Needless to say, I was smashed by the end of the night!
