I think Roak is actually a Michigan brewery. Maybe I'm mistaken but I think they are the ones that bought Dark Horse brewing (makers of Plead the 5th and the other wonderful stouts in that series)

It's where all the California's have moved. They were so sick of California they moved here... and made it California.

Enjoyed the Autumn 2021 version of Parabola. Always one of my favorites and picked up annually when i lived in PHX. Rated it 4.67. Dare i say world-class?
    Cheers!

[IMG] Arvon really swatted a dinger with this bad boy.

We’re all pretty well aware of the KBS Hazelnut released a couple months ago. Many of us in WBAYDN and other threads agreed it had taken on a very much liquid Nutella character. It was chewy, decadent, chocolatey and retained enough hazelnut character to remain true to flavor description. Well, If that beer was Nutella “Alpha”, this beer; Dark Divination “Nutella” is the “Omega”.

Pours a pitch oily black with a finger of cola brown rocky suds. Nose is bitter coffee, milk chocolate, and hazelnut spread. Taste follows suit with a sweet brown sugary finish. Feel is plenty full, thick, chewy, everything I wanted this to be. Overall, out of the few stouts from Arvon I’ve had, this will easily be the highest rated if just based on flavor true to description alone. 4.25/5

    Cheers.

I wish I got back more often, there's so many new breweries that I hear good things about on here that have popped up since I moved away. Case in point, that Arvon you just posted. Such a great beer state

Me too! One would think that the new size would be easier to send further. But nada here in Michigan.

2019 and 2020 Narwhal, BA Old Rasputin XX (2018 I think) Coffee Cocoa Stout from New Belgium, Unfinished Business from Perrin, and Ten Fiddy, because it’s just good.
    Cheers all!

What a beer right here! 2017 Churchill's Finest Hour from Lost Abbey. Intense dark chocolate, roasted malts, black licorice, vanilla, toffee, molasses, and bourbon.

Im back with an imperial stout tonight, did a Barreled Souls barleywine last night so Ill stick with my boxes of their bottles in my cellar. This is Coffee Monster a 12.4% imperial stout with coffee and vanilla. There are three versions with three different coffee sources. As I am not a coffee drinker, it will be interesting to see if I can detect any differences.

    onto my review:
Sampling this 500 ml bottle at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. Beer was bottled 8/27/2021 and I picked it up at the brewery in October 2021. Been in my cellar till today, when I opened it up for consumption.
the beer pours a dark coffee color and no light passes through my glass. A dense creamy tan head of 1 cm foams up on the pour and sticks around as a sturdy surface covering. this foam leaves dense clingy lattice when I take a sip.
Aroma is as expected coffee forward, I get roasted malt notes and coffee grounds. I also get some vanilla and what I can only describe as maple syrup. Not on the label, but every whiff smells like good (real) maple syrup. Bit surprised by that scent. But the coffee and vanilla are dominant on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and slides down quickly. Not really any booze hints here.
Flavor is roasted malt and sweetened coffee. Strong coffee for sure, but not black coffee. I do get a little brown sugary sweet too. The coffee note lingers long after the swallow. I dont think any hops were used in the making of this beer, as there is no hop character. Booze doesnt show here either.
If you like coffee stouts this one is probably a winner for you.
    4.25 in the BA DB

Set out for some lunch and an afternoon of light beers and some music at Mills River Brewing but Da Boss just was not feeling right so we headed on home and with her in bed thought i would indulge with a dessert beer. Not bad for a brew that is done regularly. SNBC "gifted" me a four-pack when i picked up my last Alpha Hop Society release at the end of 2021. Got to respect a nicely done BBA stout even though it is not world class.
