I think the regular was a pretty close representation of the MOAS flavor profile. I haven’t scored any BA Nemesis, but I hazard a guess that would be even closer. I’m a hack drinker, but the stout-like middle of those seemed related.

Are you sure you didn’t have the BA version? I believe the funky 4-pack ones that were released in the last 12-18 months (bottle shop series?) was BA.

If the “Bottle Shop” series was BA then it would be the BA version. They didn’t have many around here, and I didn’t write anything much of a review. My Nemesis rating was on the low side for me. The heavy stout quality to me was what links them, and a blind side by side would be interesting. I don’t have any Nemesis around to try myself any more. I could be way off. I am a proficient drinker, but that doesn’t mean my palate and/or memory are worth much!

The Bottle Shop version I have here says nothing (on the label) about being barrel aged. If anyone needs a photo just holler and I'll get to it this evening.

the Nemesis that was released nationally over a year ago was not barrel aged. I believe there was a barrel aged version released only at the brewery recently.

I liked it 1 1/2 years ago when it came out and I like it even more now, especially the further along I go.

    I believe:
“Bottle Shop Series” = regular Nemesis, national distribution

“Mothership Series” = barrel-aged Nemesis, not national distribution

Enjoyed a Nemesis with round 2 today. Solid American Barleywine for sure but not quite as enjoyable as Bigfoot.
    Cheers!

Jackie O's Rum Barrel Aged Brick Kiln

    2021 bottling, no other dating.

This is a nice change of pace but bourbon brick kiln is a better beer. Plenty of brown sugar and molasses up front, pretty sweet overall. There is a biting, spicy oak note at the finish that comes on a bit too strong. The body and carbonation are a little on the light side. Solid, but my least favorite offering from Jackie O's so far. Everything else has been stellar.

    All the Nemesis talk...

On the patio with the torches lit and the Phillies on the radio. This may not be barrel aged but it sure is boozy. Kinda dominates the flavor.

    Bottled on 3-8-21.

Okay, I got distracted by the imperial stout appreciation thread, but Im back with another big boozy B-wine tonight!
Barreled Souls Big Bang aged for 11 months 26 days in woodford rye barrels. 13.7% ABV. We will see what I pull off the shelf for tomorrow. So many choices and only so much space in my belly!

    onto my review:
I am sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on 4/26/2021 and in my cellar since October 2021.
The beer pours a clear dark mahogany color with deep garnet highlights when I hold the glass to a light source. A fizzy beige head kicks up about 1.5 cm and fades to a thin edging pretty quickly after the pour. Leaves almost no lacing when I swirl or take a sip.
Aroma is big and malt forward. I get figs and raisins mixing with toffee and some sweet bourbony rye notes. There is also definitely fusol , black peppery booze in there as well. No secret that this is probably a sipping beer!
First sip reveals a medium to thicker body with slightly sticky mouthfeel and texture. The carbonation is very fine and very tingly, almost prickly on my palate. Feels the part of a barleywine.
Flavor is sweet malts with toffee and caramel mixing with some fig and brown sugar, and I also get that bourbon/rye note. All fairly sweet flavors and then a bit of bitey booze and a lingering warmth on the swallow. Dont get any hop profile notes here. Each sip definitely leaves a sticky residue on my lips.
Sipping beer status confirmed with the warmth, booze and sticky texture.
I enjoy this big sipping beer and would gladly drink this again!

For me, baseball on the radio, while sitting outside with a good beer, is the best way to enjoy the game.

We can still turn the season around!
For years I called the Phillies the phildos. Somehow my mom picked up on this and I once heard her use that term when talking baseball with her minister. Explaining to her later why she shouldn't do that was awkward. Has anybody else had to explain to their mother what a dildo is?

Completely agree. The Phillies TV broadcast is nearly unwatchable. Occasionally I'll switch the audio to the radio then synch them.

I do appreciate both American and British barleywines, but I have to say that neither is really my favorite style of beer. What I will say is that I actually really like quite a few barrel-aged barleywines. For me the bourbon barrels really round out some of the "hairier" aspects of a lot of barley wines that tend to turn me off of them while accentuating the vanilla, caramel and sweeter notes to make an overall more balanced and well-rounded beer. Not a huge fan of SN Bigfoot, but the SN Trip in the Woods - BBA Bigfoot is fan-f'n-tastic.

I'm with you. I love most barleywines, but I strongly prefer them barrel aged. Next level deliciousness.
