Good to know. I've sorta moved on with life though. I've offered what I have/am willing to part with for one a few times now. Whoever are holding one on BA are looking for something else. And that's just fine.

Yeah I don’t know if you venture much outside BA for trades but there’s definitely greener pastures. Good luck landing any future wants. Cheers.

I share the sentiment. I don’t have any “Meta” accounts myself. I have grown quite addicted to perusing trading pages on my wife’s account though. Hah.

LOL. Feels like that would just end up being a conspiracy between my wife and Zuck to get me to sign up in the end. I'm already onto their rouse.

What's the deal with Kern River these days? I know Citra was a total hype beast back in the day, but I see it comes in cans now. Is it worth seeking out? Would it trade for Trillium/Vitamin Sea/Treehouse?

No idea if it’s worth seeking out, but seems like east coast hops for west coast seems as straightforward as it goes ($4$). Last release was in March so I’m not sure when it comes out again.

I see it has an untappd score of 4.68 which is pretty amazing. The only guy I personally know that had it gave it a 4.25, and said “good not great”.
Personally I would run not walk away from all Horus at this point. People are leaving his club at an increasing rate. Calling his beer sugar water etc.
everyone I know (including myself) was invited to be in his club this year.

From peering into the Horus thread, it sounds like price is a HUGE factor in people leaving the club.

Look, if the beer was SP level, obviously people would pay the price of admission. But it isn’t, and I get that. But how much of the bad press with Horus is because the beer is not great compared to it just being overpriced for what it is? My point is, if his beer was not astronomically priced, do you think there would be a different response at this point?

Said differently: Was the hype Horus received at the start ever justified, or was it just beer nerds trying to capitalize on the ground floor, knowing that beer nerds like the next new shiny thing? If it used to be justified, what has changed?

Honestly, beer seems to be dying. FB trading/selling is way down. Even SP stouts have dropped a lot in value. I'm seeing BBT21 close for 225 now on FB, which is insane since it's just as good as previous years. Price probably plays a factor, but I think there's too many hype/new breweries and people have switched to bourbon, decided to drink local, or are tired of overly thick and sweet pastry stouts. Aside from SP, HF, and TG, a lot of breweries have lost their luster/hype recently. Could also be due to the impending recession, everything is expensive now, and this hobby ain't cheap.

Also, Horus was always over-hyped. Everything is WAY overly-adjuncted, you can't even taste the base or barrel of the beer. It doesn't matter if you used PVW, GTS, or whatever hype bourbon to age it, all you taste is over-adjuncted vanilla or hazelnut. Why pay $65 retail ($100+ secondary) for a 12oz Horus bottle of vanilla/hazelnut syrup beer, when you can get something cheaper locally.

I hear Horus has had it's fair share of problems too besides the pricing. First year people were pissed cause they paid good amount of money for supposed "Aged Ales", but none of them ended up being barrel aged. I also heard that Kyle reports and deletes any "negative" reviews of his beers on Untappd, so most of the ratings are probably overly-inflated.

Widely available through distribution or statewide shipping. I had Citra for the first time this year, I could understand how it could make a major splash some years ago. Now, it's a well done Citra dipa that may or may not be your thing. All the beer I've tried from them has been enjoyable and I'm sure it would trade $4$ with any enjoyable and well regarded beer from your area

Everyone has access to a good brewery or 10 now. It’s hard for a lot of people to justify the extra expense of trading.

i am actually on the father of filberts side, so it sounds like not much trade value is there for it. was hoping to pair it with sp bubble wrap to snag something bigger but looks like i might be out of luck

Yeah, Horus has always been trash. Every beer I've ever had by them is too intensely cloying, acrid, scorched and sticky of way too many sugars and flavorings.

And that's before considering the totally bunk "aged ales" moniker.

Bottle Logic was doing what Horus couldn't dream of way before Horus, and still is, adding crazy adjuncts that achieve uncanny resemblance to their candy bar, cake, pastry or cocktail inspirations while also allowing the beer and barrel to shine in ways few others have still yet to achieve, and somehow very rarely being too sweet. And these days it's extremely accessible and still crazy affordable relative to just about any other brewery making adjunct stouts aged as long as theirs are.

Man, I've never had Horus, and longed to try for a long time, and after reading all of this, they're just getting pushed further and further down the list.
