Considering it was Catholics who improved and kept beer and ale production alive through the centuries in much of Europe and Protestants who gave us the best known (and arguably the spark for the modern versions) stout (Guinness - apparently the men in that family either became priests or brewers) - I don't understand why beer aficionados harp on either.

Poured at 50° into my trusty Big Eddy snifter! Thick and black, it even has a few bubbles that appear a light brown, they're gone in a flash! Boogar factory gets some dark chocolate, some burnt sugar, oak some vanilla and toffee, taste buds get all that, plus a bit of whiskey. This is a nicely "chewable" beer. Tasty for sure!

Was a pretty long day, and everyday for the next 10 days that I am away from home will be 12-16 hour days. Tonight was a partial night-off, so took the opportunity to enjoy a great high ABV BA stout. (Working on the last 2-3 ounces now.)

Benthic is really a favorite for me. They are doing everything right in my book, and I just can't compliment the beer enough. -And, with the price tag being what it is on top of all that? Killer. I will be buying less BCBS and interested in less BCBS because of benthic (GASP!!!). Vanilla benthic - at least this vintage (this is my only experience) - is truly fantastic. The vanilla is not overpowering, and for me just goes to highlight the coconut and accentuate and strengthen the flavor. Both of them compliment the barrel, and the barrel does shine through.

Really love this beer. While I am truly glad that they work hard to make sure their beers get evenly* distributed by reducing the number of beers per person, I am still a little disappointed that 2 of these is all that is realistic to acquire.

New Holland - Dragons Milk Triple Mash Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout
    Coutesy of @BigIronH
Upon prying cap off i get a massive whiff of dark roasted malts that i have never gotten before . As i pour into my glass i get smells of oaky bourbon, chocolate and caramel sweetness.
It pours very light brown and settles black with light brown around the edges. Making me question whether this is a well done triple mash.
First and second sip are big alcohol heat and chocolate bourbon bite. The alcohol is big in this boy and i aint mad at it. Holy shit its hot . I am sure to be drinking this one slow. At 17% I'm not surprised. This is a big, alcohol heat havin, dark chocolate tastin, charred malt assault. Jumping in with both feet .
Mouthfeel is a bit thin which kinda pisses me off cuz for a triple mashed Stout i would expect it to be damn near tree bark chewy. Alcohol burn stays on the tongue for a while .

Overall its a bold move on their part and i tip my hat to them. The mouthfeel is disappointingly thin for a triple mash but i am not a big fan of thick chewy stout so i prolly wouldn't have been to fond of a thicker body . Alcohol heat is very present so tread lightly. Maybe put it away for a year or to and see if it mellows.
If you like big barrel presence in imperial stouts grab one for sure. Let's see what happens after killing this bottle!

Update: as it warms the alcohol heat kinda tones down and chocolate and dark malt is more pronounced which is strange cuz im used to it being the other way around!

Unkindness. Chocolate, cola, brown sugar, espresso. Not a prominent barrel, some marshmallow would be kinda nice. Not picking up the rye, but I'm getting a bit of whiskey.

Ezekiel is my preferred submission. In the gi it's expected, but I used to land it no gi pretty often. Stone RIS was over rated. Thin bodied, one note. But I wad cutting my imperial stout teeth with non ba tweak, mephistopheles, uncle Jacob's etc.

    Gogoplata was fun to land.
At least we can agree that ten fidy is disturbingly under rated.
Side note, getting some cola from this unkindness. Needs more coffee and booze.

[IMG] I’m impressed with this. More so than I was the last flavored DM Reserve I had which was the one with the peppers and cinnamon. “Stroopwafel” pours an oily black with a decent foamy cola head. Nose is cinnamon, black coffee ground, vanilla, and toasted malt. Taste follows suit and brings all the flavors together with a caramel like creaminess and it really tastes like a Stroopwafel cookie. I’ve been chasing this bad boy since a couple years ago when it was released as a brewery only treat alongside Triple Mash. Glad it finally made it to stores. Cheers.
