    Bottled 2/15/22. Poured at 51°. Bitter roast coffee delicious.

    Good day BAs! Thanks @DoctorZombies for starting today's thread! Steamy indeed! It's supposed to warm up again today and evaporate some of yesterday's thunderstorm rain so maybe I can get the yard mowed and another chore ticked off my list. Today's New Breakfast Beer:

    I was surprised to find this at my local distributor when I went on an IPA searchandgrab mission - I hadn't seen it on any updates from Hoppin' Frog. The bottom of the can tells the story "BEST BY MAR-9-2021". So, over a year past BB date. My distributor is the end of a chain, with the better and fresher beers hitting the "big" city first and what they can't sell there eventually filtering down to us hicks in the sticks. Despite the BB date, this is still a good beer for my tastes: Rating 4.1, rDev +15.1%.

    As this Frenchie would elegantly put it, it’s TGIF or Fuckitol o’clock time my dudes! Time to give your coworkers or boss the finger and go run for a beer.

    Missus and me just stopped at this bar in front of the beach. Can’t lie today is sort of cloudy and a bit chiller than most of this week. Doesn’t prevent me to sit outside with a Amber ale locally brewed:

    Mrs. Z uncharacteristicly arose early today and is now undertaking some of the running around chores I was going to do - Yea! I’ll have a second cup of coffee while I unpack our luggage out of the garage - Westbrook’s Mexican Coffee Cake, Affogato Edition:

    Bottled 6/16/21. Purchased at the brewery June 2021. Poured at 55°. My last bottle, cellared for science…let’s see how the coffee has held up…appearance is typical thin dark tan head atop black with ruby edges body; poor cap retention; thin ring, island of micro dots, spots of lace; thin legs and more spots on swirl. Nose is chocolate malt and cinnamon; spicy verde sauce as liquid warms. Entry is chocolate cake batter, semi sweet; bitter roast coffee, hot peppers sauce, vanilla and just a pinch of cinnamon; surprisingly, the backend is oaky vanilla. Smooth, light creamy feel; medium body, not at all adjuncty; moderate minus carbonation; lots of heat in mouth from habanero peppers (more so than from 10.5% abv). Overall a delicious Cake (maybe the best Mexican cake, imo, in the country) variant; yes, the coffee nose is gone and taste a second chair player in this symphony of chocolate cake, hot peppers, spice and barrel flavors; especially the vanilla finish which was a welcome addition; long hot spicy linger; basically a delicious Cake with just a smidge of coffee.

    Admittedly, I’m a Westbrook fanboy when it comes to their Mexican Cake and variants. Re: this beer, if you’ve got ‘em drink ‘em, after one year cellared in my chiller, the coffee is headed for kaput, but otherwise the overall is a delicious blend of all that makes Westbrook’s Cake special in a world of wanna be cakes…

    Second beer and post will be less foul-mouthed. I am now drinking the Hop House Lager 13 from Guinness. I have never had a bad beer from Guinness and this one is also good.

    Clear, light gold body; dense, slow-rising carbonation; thick, billowy head; lasting and sticky; thick gobs of foam adhere to the glass. Delicately sweet aroma; very floral. Light, bready malt flavor; mild sweetness; light hop bitterness; slight mineral undercurrent. Medium body; crisp; gentle sweetness counterbalanced with a moderate dryness midway through the sip.

    This is a great looking beer with a nice malt-forward baseline and counterbalanced with a light hop bouquet and taste.
