Masthead Single Origin Coffee Stout while brunching at the Rowley Inn

 

Good morning BAs! Another steamy 80’s morning here…I’ve had different years/variants of this next beer, cellar purge continues - Thomas Hardy’s Ale, The Historical (2017), Meantime Brewing Company, London, UK, aged for 6 months in Tennessee whisky barrels:




Bottled 4/10/17. Purchased in Zurich Switzerland on 1/2/18. Poured at 55°. Deep amber body with ok clarity verging on thinly opaque; no cap or ring; some small spots of lace and thin legs on swirl. Fruity oaky whiskey nose, almost port-like. Entry is tart fruit/cherry; oaky red wine; undertones of sweet caramel malt and brown sugar; sweet port-like finish. Light to no carbonation; light watery body; totally lacking any heft; a little warmth from 12.7% abv; dry wooden barrel tongue coating. Overall, the body is super thin and the sour fruit took me by surprise, but co-mingled with the base and barrel notes well enough; sour cherries linger; tasted fine, just not what I was expecting.

Happy Saturday BA's! Usual morning, laundry, grocery run and a whopping 2.5 mile run for me!
Just grabbed another 6 of Enjoy by 7/4, I really like it, especially at $3 per can.

 

NBW cross-post. This beer is great! With my first post today, I described the beer as my favorite beer. That is not accurate. At that moment, I had just returned from running 6 miles. It was the first thing I drank. I probably should have had water first. @mickyge, I don't know where Front Row Amy has been, but right now the way things are going, I would consider having her in the lineup for the Milwaukee Brewers, and have Christian Yelich sit in the stands.
