This one is super creamy and approachable, and has the semi-sweet malt body needed to buoy the hop expression, which is roughly equal parts citrus, tropical, and herbal. I really liked this one, even if I didn't get a ton of individual hop tasting notes - more of a melange. A delicious melange.

Good beer. I expected it to bring a little more malt than it does, but it's a good beer. Happy to have access to it easily enough. I feel like it may be a little colder than I want it, yes it's a lager but it's swathy and full and could benefit from being a touch warmer. The only critique is maybe that the finish is a little one dimensional, but, that's not the worst thing in a lager session. Good stuff.

Oh hey, the can says that the beer is somewhat mild in character, in that case, it's exactly what it advertises. A touch mild in the finish.

Just got back from the zoo with the family. Clovenbock from Wayfinder.

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Dated 04/25/22.

Pours a clear orange-gold with a very large head and a lot of carbonation. Head settles very slowly. Smell is slightly earthy, grain husk, very yeasty.

Taste is grainy, hint of a hef's banana profile, yeast. Earthiness is still there, maybe a little bit of grass and a little bit of honeysuckle.

Mouthfeel is medium, smooth, and clean. Overall, this is a nice beer.

Kemker Kultuur - Aoltbeer Blend 2020-04

Wild Ale aged in Amarone barrels for 10 months, from Germany (6%).

Pours a clear, deep amber coloration with a medium, foamy head. Smells of doughy, slightly bready malt and estery fruit and spice, with notes of red apple, apricot and clove, as well as hints of cheesy funk and tannic oak.

Taste is an excellent balance of doughy, slighty bready malt and distinct estery fruit and spice notes of red apple, apricot and gooseberry, with lighter clove and cinnamon, as well as hints of blue cheese funk and musty, tannic oak. Finishes with a medium tartness and some red apple, apricot, cinnamon and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and light/medium carbonation.

Aoltbeer is their flagship Wild Ale, a "Münstersch Alt" that certainly doesn't have a lot in common with modern examples of the style though. They vary batches of this considerably, aging them in different barrels for different amounts of time and with additional ingredients sometimes added. I would love to have a side-by-side of different batches at some point, but from memory this seems somewhat richer and sweeter than the last batch I had, with quite distinct red apple and apricot notes, perhaps a bit less funk, but more, quite tannic oak.

As alway, it's a damn fine barrel-aged Wild Age from Germany's premier, and pretty much only, maker of the style. Rich, complex and well-balanced, another real treat from Kemker.

Howdie, NBS beer nerds. I’m going to join our friend @ChicagoJ in trying this beer. I visited the OG Goose shortly after it opened in Chicago in 1988 (see 3rd pic), and went with a customer.

I’d like to tell you I indulged in many “early generation” Goose beers, but I don’t recall - and I’ve got a fairly good memory, so I’m guessing I had Miller Lite. I do recall the food being very good, FWIW.

For a frame of reference, this visit was before Mrs O and I were dating, and we’ve been married 32 years, so I’ve got THAT going for me. Now let’s dig into this big DIPA from a brewery that helped launch a thousand beer nerds (or more).

Pours a gorgeous golden color with that big DIPA haze supporting a creamy off white head. The nose has pineapple and mango and a bit of caramalt, but it doesn’t convey the gravitas of this 9.9% ABV beer.

The taste most definitely does convey the heft of this beer, with big pineapple and mango notes up front, a dash of ripe tangerine, and a significant caramalt note at the back of the taste as the warming alcohol note reminds you that you’re drinking a big beer.

From the look, this beer should be well carbed and dry (per the WCDIPA style), but it’s a bit on the oily side. Yet I find myself drinking this like someone’s trying to take it away from me - in a hurry. I’d gladly try this again and again.

Good afternoon all! First new beer of the weekend comes courtesy of the scholar and gentleman @Roy_Hobbs. Treehouse - Homespun Moon an English dark mild ale.

Pours a dark cola brown. Thick, frothy off-white head forms on the beer lingering for a bit before dissipating completely. Aroma has notes of dark nutty malts, pumpernickel bread, lightly toasted or roasty, with some earthy, grassy hop notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of pumpernickel, nutty malts, toasted bread, light roastiness, and some earthy hops on the back end. Ever so slight bitterness. Feel is light, thin, a tad watery. Easy drinking. Moderate carbonation.

Overall a very nice English dark mild ale.

    500 ml. bottle.
    Batch 005.
    Bottled 10MAY22.

Medium pour yields a one (plus) inch white head over a very slightly hazy body with nice lacing.
Nose of citrus, slight tropical fruit and a bit of grassy hay.
Taste of slight tropical fruit, citrus; with a very slight bitter pine resin on the finish.
I'm really enjoying the excellent mouthfeel.
Here is a quite delicious and easy drinking offering from MBC and would recommend.
    Cheers!

Spent the first part of my weekend doing battle with an Ikea shelving unit for my daughter's flower shop. I'm an engineer and I can't deal with Ikea's non-verbal instruction sheets, so I Googled an Ikea instructional video. Guess what? The video is pantomime. I just can't win.
    But I got 'em together.
So having achieved a functional if not moral victory over the GD shelving units, I'm celebrating/recuperating with a New Trail Hammock DIPA.
It's an undated can (WTF - New Trail absolutely refuses to date their product) into a pint glass. I wouldn't normally buy an undated IPA but NT's stuff is so frequent and so good that I set my principles aside for this brewery. Haven't been burned yet.
Pours a very hazy deep honey-gold with a thin and brief off-white head. Thin, spotty lacing. Initial impression is sweet orange, mango, pineapple, and peach. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Alcohol (9.0%) is well hidden. Finish fades to a slight bitterness.
I like this one. There are better NEIPAs out there but Hammock is local, reasonably cheap, and quite tasty.

This is so damn accurate, when I built our crib 5 years ago the first damn step in the directions was a complete crib...then it had steps after to finish it. Did the same thing as you, thank god for youtube, oh and they just hid the first step directions in the crib mattress holder, but no where in the finishing instructions did is say to look there...those sneaky IKEA people, messing with the world one set of directions at a time.

Next up is another beer from @Ozzylizard. I've enjoyed the Hoppin' Frog beers so far, let's hope that trend continues
    [IMG]
A moderate pour ended up being entirely too aggressive, as this beer produced loads and loads of medium density tan colored head that flowed right on over the lip of the glass. Color has a very interesting red / amber look to it. Aroma, while maybe slightly weak, still has plenty of malt and bready notes to go around.

Flavor is sweet malts that I can't pin down to any one flavor (molasses, toffee etc.) Pleasantly warming and smooth, this goes down very easily for a 9.3% beer.

Behold, Definitive Brewing Co.'s VANILLA SUPERDOME! This is a 9% DIPA w/ lactose, vanilla sugar, and extra vanilla beans! I am prepared for this to be kinda bad and overly sweet, even though I also implicitly trust this brewery to do shit like this well because they have been very consistently-good at doing so. Let's find out! Canned 5/20/22, by the wat.

Pours sorta generically, but at least the head retention is good and the lacing is excellent. Can't really argue with a hazebomb that has nice legs/lace these days, honestly.

Nose is much hoppier than expected... tons of tangerine and mango backing up the sweetening elements the brewery utilized. In the back of my mind, I kinda knew they would probably pull through, but this idea is even more intense than some of their other fruited Dome beers. Still, I'm impressed that this doesn't just smell like a boozy sugar-bomb or pastry nonsense.

Definitely a solid flavor profile that matches the intensity of the vanilla and creaminess on order with an equal amount of tempering hoppiness. There's a hint of bitterness but most of this is just well-balanced citrusy goodness and some tropical fruit notes that feel sort of anonymous. I'm torn here, a little... on one hand, it feels very successful cuz they made a "more vanilla" version of Vanilla Dome, but like... why? Just to see if it was possible? I don't think it's any kind of "improvement" on the original (and if I'm being honest, I prefer some of the fruited variants more), but as a proof of concept it's... good, technically. Hmm... yeah, I don't know about this. I would have to have this and normal V Dome side-by-side to compare and, honestly, I really just don't want that. In a sense, I wanted this to be more everything but I also really didn't? Yeah... I dunno. Not bad but not a re-purchase for me by any means. Now give me a 10% Blueberry Dome or something and I'll grab that immediately.

I randomly get checks from my health insurance cause one of our doctors keeps overcharging us for copays; by 5$ apparently. So I cashed one today and across the street, a beer and wine store, naturally I went in. Well I saw this beer and remembered it was trending on here so here we are…

Maine Beer Company - Little Whaleboat

This beer pots nice and pale, when held to light shows a slight yellow tint. Nice dense head that slowly becomes more and more compact and dense, leaving a nice thick cap and some beautiful lacing.

A very aromatic and incredibly refreshing zest beautiful hoppy nose. There is a slight almost pineapple zing to it to, which compliments the zesty citrus very well.

The taste is much of the same but their is a little bit more of a noticeable pineapple or tropical fruitiness to it. In this case go very well balanced with the citrus. A nice soft but noticeable malt presence.

It has a medium body with a resiny hop feel to it; nice dry finish with medium bitterness.

Great hoppy beer, nice classic feel to it; it’s bitter dry and drinkable. It has an added bit of fruitiness to it but it’s so well balanced and not overdone that it works very well for me.

Pours a dark cola brown color. Dark enough to be essentially opaque. Thick khaki colored head forms on the head, lingers for a bit, then slowly dissipates Leaving just a ring of foam along the outside of the beer. Aroma has notes of nutty malts, Pumpernickel bread, a light spiciness, a touch of oak and a slight hint of molasses.

Taste follows the nose with notes of nutty malts, pumpernickel, oak, with a prominent spiciness with notes of grass and earthy herbs. I was honestly surprised at the spicy bitterness from this one. Feel Is light, easy drinking, Moderate carbonation.

Overall a nice English dark mild.
