I sure hope so because I can swing into the brewery on the way to my destination before heading out to GTMW Eve events!

I'll be in NG sometime in August, and I have to say, while I got lucky a couple years back and was there for the R&D blackberry release, it rocks that they actually have a surplus of some of their older R&D releases now. Even if they're not always the hottest ones, it's great to leisurely pick some of 'em up.

(however, if they release another peach sour like...Summer Sour or whatever it was, I'll probably hire most of the town of NG to mule that beer for me).

Went to the Depot this week when my power was out.

Got some 22 Pils, had one yesterday and one right now. To me it is good, but not great. The balance seems a little off. I get a lot more earthy spicy grain than I expected. The finish also has some distracting spice.

Trust me, I don't mind some malty/earthy notes. Their brewery-only Zwickel a few years back was one of my all-timers. I just feel the hops are a little lost in the grain flavor.

Anyone else getting this? My taste buds have been a little weird lately. Certain things "pop" unexpectedly, could be what's happening with the strong grain taste here.

I fully agree with you. I didn't love the hops on Pils 22. I covered up that awesome awesome malt profile. I am also with you that Zwickel needs to return! It's the best lager New Glarus has brewed. Don't change a thing with Zwickel brew it exactly like it was 2 years ago!

I’ll go to bat for Hometown Blonde. I’ve only had fresh Weihenstephaner Pils twice, at Bavarian lodge and I’ d had many dated bottles before that. When I tried Hometown Blonde for the first time, it’s how I imagined fresh Weihenstephaner would taste.

I don’t think I was spot on in that analysis, but the fact that I made the comparison speaks to how classic the hometown blonde recipe tasted, I think…

Anyone have details on black currant, listed on the latest beer calendar?

I know what everything is thinking... How will Black Current '22 compare to R&D VSB/Sour Fruit.

The answer: It's not as rare, so it won't taste as good.

I think the real difference between 4 pack offerings like this and the R&D Fruit lambic is the sweetness. I hope I’m wrong, but I predict this black current will be sweet

if I’m wrong, I’m dancing to the store

Comparing a beer with black currants to 2 beers with blackberry certainly seems like setting yourself up for disappoinment...

Yeah, basically this. The Thumbprints are almost all on the sweet side (usually cloyingly, to my tastes), the exception being stuff like the classic Wild Sour. I keep hoping they'll run a "knock-off" version of the R&D sours one of these months, but every 4 pack of the fruited Thumbprints just runs a little too sweet for me.

Maybe. Currants are known to be very sour and blackberries more sweet. Throw both in a wild fermentation and that taste distinguisher shortens. Since currants are so sour, I think there's potential for this one to be more comparable to the R&D sours of past. I hope it's more like Cran-bic and less like Nectar Ale.

I don't know about that. Have you tried back currants? It is 10 times the fruit blackberry is. If they manage to make it actually taste like black currants and not like generic fruit beer like most of thumbprints it can turn out to be really good.

I'm not sure I'm reading this right. Are you complementing or insulting the thumbprint fruits?

    Allow me to translate.

@Grounder does not like Thumbprint fruit beers. He hopes this Black Currant beer does NOT taste like the "generic" Thumbprint fruit beers.

Source: I have decent reading comprehension.

Possible issue: I have a buzz.
