I’ve been thinking about Orval glassware a lot recently because I missed Orval day due to the covid...(I drink Orval year around, but I have a vertical 2016-2020 of Orval to experience on Orval day)

I do not however have an Orval chalice.
Besides using a chalice, does anyone have any recommendations for glassware type? I mostly use a crate and barrel bruges tulip glass because the bowl is large and has a wide opening and is thin walled

Any decent goblet should suffice. Personally, I prefer a tulip for everything, so I also suggest that.

I use the Bruges tulip a lot, including with Orval. Hard to recommend anything instead, the Bruges concentrates the Brett aroma better than any goblet could.

I'm a fan of what most stores call a "Margarita glass." They vary in size and shape, but a lot of them look pretty similar to an Orval glass. I bought a bunch at Target like 20 years ago and still use 'em for Belgians (of all sorts) today.

The chimay goblet shape is pretty similar to orval. I also have an orval taster glass that is a "mini-pint." Has the orval name etched on the side with fish nucleation site on bottom. Looking for some pictures.

the picture i found is not with the right beer, but you can see the Orval name etched on the side.

You can still find these at garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores. (Unfortunately, they've gone up in value and some folks are asking a buck each.

OTOH, the DoJ Inflation calculator says 50¢ in 1974 equals about $3.41 in today's dollars, so you're getting a bargain

If we are 'expanding' Goblet glasses beyond those branded with Orval my vote is:

I can’t help but imagine Orval next to a nacho platter

This is a good solid hack though and I’d drink Orval with you any day.

I used to live in rural Missouri next to a Missouri state university and could find Orval, westy, early lager chalices for 1-3 dollars a glass but owning over 40 different glasses at the time..I passed. I’ve since paired down to a few essentials, I fully regret not getting an Orval chalice then

Oddly enough, I once found an Orval mug in rural Missouri. Looks like this:

I use a big ole brandy snifter that I got a free case of decades ago at a restaurant that was changing glassware.
It's perfect for many types of beer, but Belgians pour well, especially from draft, and the nose is concentrated without restricting it.
They hold a good amount of brew too.
I know they are definitely not a standard beer serving vessel, but they work well for me.
I have darn near every type of beer serving glassware from being in the restaurant/Irish Pub business for so many years. From free samples to ones bought at breweries/beer fests/and glassware shops, I can use & abuse the big ole snifters & not worry about breaking any.

I use that Bruges beer glass pretty frequently as well. It’s my go-to tulip-style glass.

All those substitute replies would not fly in Belgium, y'all.
If they don't have a clean, proper glass, it just isn't served.
Any type of glassware can be used or even just drink it out of the bottle, if you may. Just don't need to show off you alternate life style in public.
We are civilized people, are we not?

Lay on a table face up, hold the bottle six inches over your head, and pour it in your mouth fast like you're pouring it into a glass. Stop when foam comes out your nose and you gag. (Hint - don't actually do that)
