Tru-Action IPA (Dogfish Head/Trillium collaboration) - I wanted to try this but not a whole four pack and came across a single. Pours from a can (BB Dec. 2022) a very hazy orange with a massive thick and billowy head. Smell is an interesting mix of fruit and the taste follows that with citrus, mango, pineapple but then it ends with a bit of pine and dryly; softer mouth feel and the 6.5% is nowhere to be found.

I would say that they delivered exactly what they were going for and it's a nice hybrid between an NEIPA and an old-school one. I'm actually really into this and didn't expect to enjoy it that much, would gladly drink again. Budmo!

Sounds like you three would enjoy Tru-Action.

Happy Saturday, NBW friends. I’ve got one beer tonight, from a relatively local iconic brewery that CRUSHES the style of beer I’ve got tee’d up.

If you only enjoy the hazy, juicy IPA style, this beer sits outside that profile. If you enjoy bitter, old school DIPA’s, you may want to secure financing so you can acquire a suitable supply.

    Let’s do it.

I absolutely love and adore big, bitter, dank WCDIPA’s, and this beer crushes those boxes with a sledgehammer, so consider that if you’re reading this review.

An aggressive pour reveals a golden copper colored beer with a bit of suspended hop haze and a creamy oatmeal colored head that is very, very sticky. Gorgeous beer.

The nose is bitter, dank citrus aromas. There’s orange, there’s pithy grapefruit rind, and there’s bitterness. I’m not sure I’ve experienced bitterness like this straight out of the can.

And the bitterness is the umbrella over a candied orange flavor and loads of ruby red grapefruit (which I love). I’m also picking up a slight caramalt flavor at the back of the palate, and some warming from the 9.5% ABV.

The mouthfeel is crushingly dry, which makes this a very easy to drink high gravity beer. I’m a HUUUUUGE fan of Permanent Funeral and Dreadnaught, and this beer is the equal of those iconic beers, IMHO - a truly world class take on the old school WCDIPA, again IMHO.

Great Divide Chocolate Raspberry Yeti, 9.5%; ABV; 3.8 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut with a thumb+ of tan head. Below average head retention & lacing

S: Raspberry, some roastyness, chocolate once warm

T: Tones of raspberry sweetness, then roastyness, plus cocoa/dark chocolate & dryness up front. More Raspberry, some vanilla & cocoa with dryness once this beer warms, a touch of cola. Finishes with cocoa powder, raspberry, & dryness

MF: Medium body, pretty firm carbonation

Nice offering, but nothing to get too excited about, unless you're into mucho sweet Raspberry

We are getting some heat and humidity here, but I think we are close enough to the coast and are benefitting from a nice breeze. Took the grandson to a car show basically across the street. He did a good job with look don't touch. Nice mix of classic, street rods, old school and modern muscle. He was allowed in the back of a Lincoln rag top with the suicide doors...I think the interior was almost as big as our bathroom.

    So tonight we are having:

Timberyard Brewing Thai Sour. Berliner Weisse style. It's naturally soured, brewed with coconut, lime zest, pineapple, Thai basil, ginger, lemongrass, and Thai chili's. Well if that ain't a whole hell of a lot o' stuff. Feeling of impending doom of the more is better syndrome???

Pours a very slightly hazy golden color with a big white soapy head that essentially vanishes after a few minutes. It looks still once the head goes away, but I've seen that with other examples of the style...right or wrong, dunno.

On the nose, the lime is initially dominant but eventually the rest of the cast comes out of the shadows. It's actually nicely restrained and brings a Thai kitchen to mind at least a little bit - thinking Tom Kha Kai. The flavoring ingredients are mild and nicely nuanced. Ginger brings an anchoring earthiness.

On the taste, the lime and citrus element come on quickly but are balanced by the basil, ginger, and eventually the Thai chilis. Very mildly sour, and feeling its a Lacto sour. The coconut lends a slight sweetness and the ginger tethers this beer nicely - not overdone to the point of dirty. I can't really find the lemongrass, but it is citrusy. There is just a hint of pineapple. The Thai basil and chilis are stars to me here. I grow both. The basil flavor is a familiar one and adds to the brightness. There is some vegetal green taste and herbal peppery spice that is then bolstered when the chili peppers show up. It's not potent, but there's a decent hot peppery lift to close the taste. Actually subtle. It's hard to find, but all this rides on a bready maltiness but man it's layers down to me.

The feel is light, and there is a very pleasant spicy Thai tingle. The favors hit and accumulate a little, but pleasantly so. Carbonation is approaching high and helps with the pallet reset.

I like this flavor a lot. I'm not finding a lot of beer-ness is the question in my mind. I can convince myself there's a malt presence, but this beer is definitely all about the other flavors. So...I need to mull this over s bit. It is way up there on craft - how the flavors were utilized and work harmoniously, not overpowering. That leads to liking - yeah big factor. I might settle in the 3.8 to 4.0 range as sort of a happy spot.

16oz can served in a stemless angular wineglass. Dated 06/09/22. Got it from a CSA picked up at Brewmasters Taproom.

Pours clear orange-gold with about an inch of medium-density head that collapses to a rich meniscus that might be a centimeter high on the edges and a millimeter thick in the center. Smell is fairly mild, pine resin and honeysuckle.

Taste is honeysuckle floral sweetness with a clean pine bite on the finish.

Mouthfeel is light and clean. This is a nice beer.

Track Brewing - For All You Give

Triple New England IPA with Citra, Mosaic, Strata, Galaxy and Nelson hops, from England (10%).

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of biscuity malt and tropical/citrus/berry hops, with notes of passion fruit, guava, tangerine and white grape.

Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly dank and herbal hops, with tropical, citrus and berry notes of passion fruit, guava, tangerine, grapefruit and white grape, as well as hints of herbal weed. Finishes with a light bitterness and some guava, grapefruit and weed lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is a nice Triple New England IPA with some quite vibrant and juicy hop characteristics ranging from tropical, over citrus and berry notes, perhaps just a hint of stone fruit in there as well, with a great body and mouthfeel, but maybe just a little boozy, although really not too bad. While this is fairly formulaic, being just a tad too sweet for my personal taste, there are some dank and herbal accents to this as well, making it a little more interesting.

Overall, this makes for an enjoyable, fairly formulaic example of the style that's sweet and juicy, but a bit too boozy, with a great body and mouthfeel.

    Next Exit IPA from E9.

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Dated 05/27/22. Got it from a CSA through Brewmasters Taproom.

Pours a clear light golden, with a decent sized head that collapses to a thick skin with a thicker ring. Smell is pine resin and lemon.

Taste is pine resin and lemon but softened somewhat, like there's a hint of vanilla or something added. Still has a nice citrus zest bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is very light, airy, clean. Overall, very nice not-too-intense WCIPA.

    New Glarus Spotted Cow
12oz can stamped I2221003 poured into a vintage footed bar glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label. The beer pours just clearer than hefe-hazy in a medium amber color. The head is off white and settles to a ring and island after a few minutes. The aroma is mild with fruity and farmhouse esters. The taste is semisweet pale malt with mild clove and relatively minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, excellent everyday beer. I don't know that I'd stretch and call it a farmhouse ale, but I'd drink it anytime it was offered.

    Cheers all!

    Bier Brewery Cerveza
12oz undated can (1st ever Untappd check in less than a month ago, so fresh) poured into a footed bar glass at fridge temp 4.7% ABV 18 IBU. The beer pours bright golden amber with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. The aroma is mild with pale malt and a hint of corn. The taste is semisweet pale malt with a hint of biscuit or toasted bread before a herbal (kitchen, not smokable) hop flavor and moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, really tasty and an excellent example of an AAL, if indeed corn is used, which the brewer doesn't disclose...

Glad I picked up this six pack while in Indy yesterday. Cheers all!

2nd Shift Brewing Liquid Spiritual Delight
12oz canned 2/10/21 poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 11.5% ABV. The beer pours very dense black with minimal light penetration and light brown head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. No lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet fudge like chocolate and roasted malt. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with notes of coffee, chocolate fudge, and earthy, moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is full bodied with just less that average carbonation and a semi dry finish. No hint of 11.5% ABV in the aroma or taste. Overall, very good.

    I'm out. Cheers all!

Ran some errands and am finally home for the evening. Watching the Phillies (yay west coast start times!) and enjoying this Wander Brewing - Eventide from @BBThunderbolt in the most incredible #properglassware ever. Makes me miss @Lingenbrau.

Pours a lightly cloudy, but not opaque burnished copper color. Sudsy off white head forms on the beer.Just a thin residual head remains on the beer. Aroma has bright notes of citrus, pine, with some nice caramel malts. It has got a nice old school vibe going on here.

Taste follows the nose with hops that have some light citrus notes, some pine and a bit of woodiness coming through painted on a caramel malt backbone. There is a light spiciness to it, I assume from the hops, but I am not 100% sure. Moderate balanced bitterness. Feel is light, crisp as IPAs go, and balanced.

Overall this is a really nice IPA - thoroughly enjoying this one.

I wanted to enjoy these Tree House IPAs that @WunderLlama sent me as fresh as possible. Here's the last one, Guavas and Cream.

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Can is dated 06/09/22.

Pours hazy pale orange, amber in the shadows, with a big creamy head that collapses to a level centimeter or so with big clumpy lacing. Smell is dominated by vanilla with a little tropical fruit underneath.

Taste is similar, very vanilla creamy with a little tropical in the background, and the hoppy bitterness doesn't mesh particularly well. Not terrible, but doesn't do it for me.

Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, no chalkiness like I detected with the other recent Tree Houses. Overall, this is pretty good, but I think it's not as good as their unfruited IPAs I've tried.

It has been hot as hell today (my threshold is low, it *might* have hit 90 outside, but with our A/C dead, it hit 80 inside), and we've been active packing for a camping trip (where it will be even hotter). It's been nice to refresh myself with these lovely beers.

Next up is another one from @BBThunderbolt and another one from Wander Brewing - Extra Brown Ale.

Pours a clear, ruddy brown color. Three finger off-white head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment and then dissolves leaving no residual head. Aroma is wonderful - notes of dark malt, moderate nuttiness and some light cream and some earthy hoppy notes.

Taste is a bit more subdued that the aroma would imply. However that nutty maltiness comes through with notes of cocoa, tobacco, and some earthy hops. Feel is light, drinkable and smooth.

Overall its a straightforward, but impressively executed American brown ale.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4 = 4 (rDev +5.5%)
