Thanks - been cooking for a long time. My daughter and her friends call me Cooker lol. I've had that nickname for years - since I used to make pizzas for her and her friends when she was young. I also did all the cooking for the family since my ex couldn't cook shit. They still call me Cooker to this day.

Wasn't into craft until 2015, but glad to have enjoyed the OG IPA, one of my favorite WC IPAs.

Was primarily a Jack Daniels drinker from high school (mid 1980s) until 2002. Mostly drank Jack either straight / neat or with Coke until the mid 1990s (switched to exclusively neat or on the rocks) and didn't notice the change from 90 to 86 proof in 1987. Definitely did notice the change from 86 to 80 proof in 2002. Still enjoyed my prior times with the brand, including a trip to Lynchburg.

However, it opened me to exploration where I discovered and enjoyed a wide range of bourbons and whiskeys, beginning with Maker's Mark and Woodford Reserve. One door closes, and if you keep your eyes open, many more may be at your reach.

My bourbon of choice the last few years. Truth is I have not met a bourbon I did not like.

I like most I've tried, but like beer shy away from the sweet offerings, with Jim Beam being the most widely known example.

I was "Maker's Mark" on my mid 2000s drinking team. Number 7 in honour of legendary drinker and ballplayer Mickey Mantle.

Autographed ball was gift from a friend of Mickey's I worked with long ago. He sadly passed over a decade ago, too young. RIP Bobby.

I'm still struggling to process the departure of Greg Koch from Stone. So many damn memories. I wish I could have enjoyed the original recipe one last time prior to the announcement. A limited run would have been a really nice treat for the fans, and I'm sure they would have seen an uptick in sales. Just my thoughts. Cheers!

In 1997, Nas formed the super group, The Firm, featuring his partner in rhyme, AZ, Fox Boogie, and Nature. Cormega was in the conceptualized lineup, but Steve Stoute was not a fan. Poor choice on his part. I played this heavy in '97.

Finishing up the Jai Alai after dinner ...

Ribs came out great, the bark was delicious and they had just the right amount of smoke and tug. I added a good layer of finely crushed red pepper in the rub so they had a nice, pleasant spiciness as well. A little slaw and some greens rounded it out.

[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Karben4 Midwesty Pilsner (4.4%):
A Czech-style pilsner from Wisconsin for flavors of pale malts, adjuncts, corn, and cracker. Bland. More like an American adjunct lager.
    versus
    2) Alaskan Pilsner (4.8%): A Czech-style pilsner from Alaska with flavors of pale malt, bread malt, light honey and buttery notes. A flat, smooth finish.

    3) Falling Knife Hidden Temple (7.3% canned 2/18/22): A NEIPA from Minnesota for flavors of orange citrus, tangerine, pineapple, some plastic hop burn and astringency.
    versus
    4) Humble Forager Foggy Footpath IPA (8.0% canned 3/24/22): A NEIPA from Wisconsin with flavors of tangerine, guava, peach, and papaya. Complex flavors and a creamy, smooth mouthfeel.

    5) Leinenkugal Dark Lager (4.9%): A European Dark lager from Wisconsin for flavors of dark malt, bittersweet cocoa, vanilla cream, and English black malt flavors. Light and clean.
    versus
    6) Surly Ghost Empire (5.5%): A European Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of caramel malt, toasted Munich malt. A rich, sweet malty profile.
(Correctly matched all 3 pairs blind)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Alaskan Pilsner:
This one has a nice honey bread and buttery flavor to capture the Czech flavors. Maltier and lower carbonation as per usual for the Alaskan brewery. Not bad at all.

    4) Humble Forager Foggy Footpath:
A couple of older IPAs from the fridge. This one has a nice complex flavor profile, but what makes this beer stand out is the soft, creamy mouthfeel. I've seen them on the shelf. My first IPA from Humble Forager, and definitely won't be my last.

    5) Leinenkugal's Dark Lager
: This is one of the reportedly better Leinenkugal's beers. Agree that it's a good beer which is often hard for Leinenkugals to do. Enjoyable. Both were good, but Ghost Empire misses the style. Drinks more like a Marzen than a European Dark Lager.

Thanks - I have another 1/2 rack for tomorrow. There was a day when I could easily pack away a whole rack but nowadays it's a 1/2 rack. They were also pretty meaty ribs so they were filling. Cheers!
