Hey advocates, this is a gorgeous weekend and the next week will be equally nicely sunny and hot, very hot. 37c expected next Friday-Sat. About 99F

Drinking Maredsous Triple. 10% ABV. Tasty one, but gosh that’s strong and could trigger an afternoon short nap.

Two songs, two very different musical genre. I like Moby and Eminem equally and I know Eminem trashed him more than once; for the sake of peace & love I’m posting them back to back:

    Cheers!

Great beer and songs. It sure is hot! I’m on a train from Marseille to Nice and we are all sweating! Can’t wait to arrive and have a cold one. I’ll be back soon!

Yep, one of those NA/UA days.
I think I need to go look for different flavors, this Lychee Sherbet thing is starting to give me an off chemical after-taste. Weird.
Anyhoo... day off, going to walk only today after a nice long week. Hot weekend here, too. But hey, last time I checked it is July.

    Cheers!

I love Nice! It’s a part of the French Riviera I know well enough. A number of places to visit, bars to hang out, plenty of pleasant walks especially along the famous “Promenade des Anglais” along the beach.

We were lucky to find an affordable place right on the Promenade, so lots of beach time! Let me know if you have specific recommendations!

Nice beach is a pebbles one so watch your feet! Otherwise plenty of either tourists highlights to see and bars I’d recommend the neighborhood known as “Vieux Nice” which is French for “Old Nice/Old town) which is hundreds meters from the promenade and you’ll find many bars and restaurant cheaper than right on the beach.

Just walk around the city and along the beach and I’d make the recommendation to go up the hill where is located the “château de Nice” with the tram and you’ll have a nice view of the bay and city from up there. Cheers!

    Have a good Saturday Advocates,
this is my post workout beer, after a quick lunch.
Obviously we are talking about a Microbrewery, whose production can only be limited... but really of great quality.
Coming to drink in Italy and settling for the offer of the pub on duty, not taking a bottle of Opperbacco, Loverbeer, Maestri del Sannio........ makes no sense.
In August, after two years of forced postponements, I'll return to the Beer Festival in Castellalto, right near the village of this Microbrewery and I can't wait to go back to drink their things at their home.

Microbirrificio Opperbacco (Abruzzo, ITA) - ABRUXENSIS vers. MANDARINI (tangerines) Vintage 2020 - Farmhouse Wild Ale (5,5%)

33 cl bottle (€ 6), at the beershop.
Vintage 2020 - "To be consumed preferably by the end of March 2026".
Farmhouse Wild Ale with Saccaromuces, Torulaspora and Brettanimyces yeast extracted from local grapes (also thanks to the collaboration with the University of Teramo). Fermentation and maturation take place in barrels of former Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine.
Just uncorked acid note between lactic and bacterial. Very light scent of unidentifiable fruit.
The appearance is, as usual, slightly hazy straw yellow and the foam is little and completely evanescent (like that of a Lambic).
In the mouth the first impact is that of mandarins: you can feel this taste of ripe orange, even with a pinch of dessert.
Then a pleasantly astringent note that "erases everything" that precedes it: short but with the right scratch. Tongue that almost dries up.
In the final notes more of wet wood and mold, of bacterium (Brettanomyces) that do not clash at all.
On the palate sweet notes of ripe citrus reappear and the true taste of citrus is perceptible, not as something artificial.
Perhaps having drunk it fresher, I remembered it with a clearer mandarin taste.
As for the acid note, however, here we are: it appears between the fruity taste of mandarins and the bretted finish, also leaving a very slight dehydration on the tongue.
Splendid balance, although obviously there are few typical hints of a classic Farmhouse Ale because it lacks that herbaceous and straw-yellow note that makes it "funky".
It is more of a Wild Ale with fruit, but in any case, the passage in the barrel was also very successful, because you can feel those woody and impregnated wood notes, but they emerge only at the end of the drink almost to crown the whole gustatory path that is short, but very interesting.
Compared to the FRUTTI DI BOSCO (berries) version, which I recently drank (always 2020 vintage), I like this version much more.

Good day BAs! Thanks @Shanex for starting us off today and to @Jack_14 for his excellent review of another Italian beer I'll never see! @Beersnake1 - sounds like you're really enjoying France - I guess you have more than a rudimentary knowledge of the language - a definite plus!
Yet another beautiful summer day here on the tundra of NW PA - best summer I've enjoyed since 1969 in SC - kind of like when I was a kid - hot, high humidity, just WONDERFUL!
Today's New post-Breakfast Beer is another from Beer Reefer #1:

Yep - I've finally cracked a bottle of the base Darkness from Surly! I'm pleasantly surprise - it's damn good! Straightforward flavors and aromas - chocolate and malt - ended by hops and a hint of organic acids. Excellent, although the price point may be a bit high ($ 0.819/oz), it's still cheaper by a mile than driving 14 hours to MN, standing in line forever, and the trying to drive home again. Rating 4/36, rDev -2.7%.

I am sad that this beer is recently discontinued. Bring an employee has nothing to do with the fact that this is the best fruit beer I've ever had. Tart. Just enough sweet. Real fruit. No syrups or sugar the base beer is just as good. When this was a seasonal beer it sold well enough that we thought to bring it into full rotation and that was it's demise.

    Cheers.

Yeet, I typically wake up too early (5:30-6am), and if I have something this strong in the early afternoon odds are that I’ll nod off for a bit, which I just did. :grinning:
