As a Märzen traditionalist, this really doesn't appeal to me. I really like the soft, clean, malt character a good Märzen will carry and think bourbon will just contaminate what I love.

Well they said they'll release the regular O-fest too, so you purists can still enjoy.

Yeah, well... there's a problem there, too. Sorry -- it seems I'm slamming Founders, but I just think they need to stay away from traditional lagers.

I like a lot of their Ales and Stouts, but their Okto was pretty thin to my palate.

Last trip to total wine I saw highland clawhammer Oktoberfest and shiner Oktoberfest … was tempted but didn’t bite yet

Not my favorite Märzens -- even when they're made. Too caramel/toffee -- less bready melanoidin.

Never understand this complaint. For a product with a shelf-life of 3-6 months (up to year or more for imports), when should a brewer release a beer that celebrates an event that takes place in mid-September (Sept. 17th for 2022)?

If they wait until the official month, how much Oktoberfest beer with a "best by" date of 150 days from packaging are they going sell in January?

I am not complaining. I look forward to Augtoberfest every year.

And, usually too hoppy as well for the style.

I agree with you in principle. In practice, I will buy the beer and try it.

I guess it would depend on the brewery to me. I *have* bought other beers and tried them and been disappointed. Once bitten, I guess.

Founders has surprised me in a good way before, so I’ll try it when it comes out. Barrel aged Oktoberfest seems to run contrary to the beer’s purpose in my thinking: a delicious drinkable beer that one can drink a few of without getting hammered.

I hope they brew a higher alcohol marzen so it stands up to the flavor from the barrel (like with KBS not being 'based' by their Breakfast Stout), so I'd be very surprised if there is any similarity to an Octoberfest.

    Or any German lager?

Blind tasting anyone? "Wow. This is a really nice BA Stout!"

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course... but why call it a Märzen?

As I said before, I've enjoyed many of their Ales & Stouts -- they brew them well. But their bottom-fermented beers have left me flat.

Do you happen to know when those beers were packaged?

    Cheers!
