Yes, darker malts in brewing are anti-oxidative and continuous cold storage is very helpful.

    Cheers!

No, I haven't seen anything larger that a 24-count case. There must be some kind of a market for these bigger packs, but I don't see it. I suppose with the prevalent use of cans nowadays the weight is significantly less than if these packs were bottles.

I've seen Keystone Light (and Keystone "regular") in 30 packs for over 10 years (maybe 20 years?). They may come in 36 packs now - I wouldn't know; I haven't bought any in quite a long while.

Stroh's used to come in 30 packs (cans) a very long time ago. In the 90s, I think.

From my recollection the bigger packs are light beers and macros. The aim seems to be "mass consumption" such as at parties or picnics or such. We used to get 'em when we'd go "down the shore" and had 3-5 (or more) people drinking beer off and on all day long.

Oh. Nope - I have seen nothing larger than 24 count boxes in the craft beer section.

In the import section, I've seen (or thought that I've seen) 24-count boxes of half liter cans.
Maybe that was 24 count boxes of pint cans.

Saw cases stacked up at the brewery yesterday. I saw pictures of Pumking in a store as well, but can't confirm whether it was fresh or not.

Just picked up a twelve-pack of Von Trapp Oktoberfest. They had cases of Spaten and Bitburger available, too.

28 packs are the bonus that you get when you buy Sam Adams from BJ'S Wholesale Club. Not quite as good as Celebration Ale in bottles at Costco.

It is a really good brew. A few years ago I hired a plumber do some work in my basement. He saw all of my beer related things and we got to talking about beer. He was telling me how he’s been working at the Penn Brewery installing new brewing equipment and other plumbing. The owner of the brewery gave him 20 cases of St. Nikolaus Bock beer at the end of the job. I was like get the eff outta here? The next morning he gave me a call and told me to look on my front porch. There was a case of St. Nikolaius Bock beer sitting on my front porch along with a Penn Brewery bottle opener.

Did you check dates on the Spaten? It can be ordered year-round now, so it may not be terribly fresh.

You may be sure  but Sly Fox isn't, since it was the brewery which stamped a "Best by" date on the bottom of the can giving it a 5 months (IIRC) shelf life - too long for me for a hoppy pils kept at room temps from a brewery less than 2 hours away.

I've drank many Sly Fox beers out of the expired bin and they were still in great shape. I don't understand why everyone gets their weenies in a sling over best by dates? Don't matter to me just as long as the beer doesn't have undesirable floaters in it. Then again, I'm a cheap bastard. I haven't had a "spoiled" one yet, of any brand.
Maybe not at the very peak of freshness, but still very drinkable.

In Central Jersey (Rt. 18 to be exact) i saw the signs us already for the pop-up "Spirit of Halloween" stores in TWO different locations!

Still counting the days until I can begin to enjoy the Oktoberfest beers. . .

Don't those always open up extremely early?

Somewhat ironic to that -- there was an empty store in a local strip mall where a Spirit opened a couple years running -- then the local big liquor retailer bought the spot and opened a new branch! Redemption!

I just got back from doing some grocery shopping at my local Wegmans supermarket and I noticed a large stack of Spaten Oktoberfest beers. I removed a bottle from a six-pack to see a best by date of 10-2022. These beers are 9 months old now. :grimacing:

    Cheers!

The oldest beer that I ever drank was about 25 years old. :innocent: It was still drinkable. Though definitely past its prime.

    It was a Thomas Hardy's Ale:nerd:
