Good that everything is looking up and the family is on the mend generally, I’ve had a kidney stone as a teen and that sure is hell to pass through the plumbing. No need for details beside that I was glad I could get rid of it the more natural way.

Since then my doctor suggested I drink more (water!) and eat less red meat. Never got one again.

Cheers, seems to be the only way to try and prevent a severe pain due to a kidney stone. Water and less meats. Probably @lordofthewiens knew this well before I was born.

Very true, a truly fine beer!

I am currently working in the Winchester VA area, so I get to try a lot of east coast & NE beers. Von Trapp has become my go to brewery, I can’t get enough of their stuff!

I’ll be keeping my eye out for fresh Switchback, I would really like to find a draft source somewhere in the area, but that might be a stretch.
    Cheers

Well, you said "red meat" above which I eat very little of.

I do eat lots of chicken!

Hey there Weekenders! I've been away from the thread for a while, mostly due to my work schedule. That doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed any new beers, though! Two for today (from much earlier):

    Abomination Everyday Fog - Citra

Everyday Fog is the lower ABV version of Wandering Into the Fog. This is the single-hop Citra take on it, and it's everything you should expect. Wonderfully complex aroma. All that said, it's a bit underwhelming given Abomination's pedigree.

Abomination Midnight Snack - Rocky Road

Sticking with Abomination, how about their pastry stout series, Midnight Snack? This one is Rocky Road, replete with ... well, everything you'd suspect, including ice cream!

    It's dark. It's rich. It's decadent. It's freaking awesome.

Good afternoon all - we are on a long weekend vacation with my in-laws. I have got a little quiet time, so I am going to review a couple beers. First up is Revolution Brewing - Freedom of Speach.

Pours a brilliant, clear golden color. Two finger, white sudsy head. Head dissipates pretty quickly leaving no residual head. Aroma has notes of yogurt, peach, wheat and some light light tart notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of wheat and greek yogurt, fresh peach and a hint of lemon-y citrus. Moderately tart. Refreshing finish. Fee is light, tart, bright. Moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall it is a lovely fruited sour - easy drinking, light, refreshing and not filling.

    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4 = 4.01 (rDev +8.7%)

Earlier today we went on a lovely hike in Martin State Forest. Gorgeous country and shockingly "mountainous".

Next up is Revolution Brewing co. - Freedom of Assembly.

Pours a brilliant, lovely ruby color. Lightly cloudy, completely opaque. Thin white head forms on the beer, lingers a moment, then dissipates leaving no residual head. Aroma has notes of tart berries, blueberries and blackberries. There is a slight spiciness on the nose - the ginger peeping through. Notes of yogurt, wheat, and some light tart notes come through.

Taste follows the nose with notes of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries along with some light spicy ginger notes. Gives way to a finish that has notes of wheat, yogurt and a moderate tartness. Feel is light to medium bodied, crisp, smooth, and refreshing. Semi-dry finish.

Overall another lovely fruited sour that is refreshing and drinkable.

We are in Southwest Indiana - those photos are from Martin State Forest.

The county where we're staying - Daviess County has a sizeable Amish population, so that's kind of interesting.

Neat heck I know I can google it but what’s the fun in that. I also wouldn’t have got the Amish tidbit.

Hope you have a nice fun rest of your trip.

Next up is Revolution Brewing - Freedom of Press.

Pours a pinkish, ruby color. Cloudy and opaque. Two finger pink tinged head. The head dissolves leaving just a thin layer of foam on the top of the beer. Aroma has notes of berries, currants, and dark fruits. Notes of wheat, yogurt and some light lemon-y citrus come through.

Taste follows the nose with light notes of currants and berries, wheat, yogurt and some light lemon citrus notes. Its bright, lively and refreshing. Feel is light with moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

overall it is another delicious fruited sour. The mixed 12-pack of session sours from Revolution is one of the best lineups of fruited sours from any brewery. Along with the special one off releases, it is a stellar lineup contributing to a superior lineup across the board from them.

Finally, last one from the package - Revolution Brewing Co. - Freedom of Expression.

Pours a brilliant pink color. Cloudy but not opaque. Two finger sudsy white head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment then dissipates leaving just a thin ring of foam along the outside of the beer. Aroma has notes of strawberry, strawberry jam, and some wheat and yogurt.

Taste follows the nose with notes of strawberry, strawberry jam, and raspberries. The rhubarb comes through in the flavor providing this herbal citrusy character. Hints of lemon citrus come through before giving way to wheat and that greek yogurt flavor that has been present in all of these. Feel is light, crisp, bright and refreshing. Moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

So these were 4/4 in terms of being great beers. This session sour mixed pack is awesome and I'll continue to pick these up during the summer months.

And with that, nap time is over and it is time to go shoot the kids with water guns. Have a great evening y'all!

Thanks to @WunderLlama for kicking things off this weekend! My first new beer of the weekend is also my first beer from Athletic Brewing - Free Wave. Figured it was time to try it, and I'm glad that I did.

Canned a couple of weeks ago. Poured at fridge temp. Pours a semi-transparent yellow/orange with a good amount of white head. The nose is is mango, pineapple, some lemon citrus, grass, a touch of honey, and a slight pine note. Really nice. I must admit that it's tough to tell that it has no alcohol just from the nose.

The taste is good. Slightly bitter hops, tropical fruit, a pretty strong floral note, bread, wheat, orange, a touch of citrus peel. It is easier to tell that it's a zero alcohol beer from the taste. A bit thin and "watery", but a million times better than the previous NA beer that I tried (from another brewery). I can see why the reviews on this are quite strong. Will definitely drink again.
