Goodles "If You’re Hoppy and You Know It IPA-inspired Cheesy Mac" is reported to retail for a whopping $17.99 for a four-pack or $45.99 for a 12-pack. So, it's just as overpriced as your local 4-pack of hazy IPA! And the silly name and cartoon-themed packaging taps into your inner child, just like many of today's canned hazies.

Yes, I can see this "somewhat grown-up sensibility" by looking at the box:

Yeah, really. Boxed mac & cheese. :grimacing: I had a forkful of my sister's back in the early '60s, and I swore it off. Gimme true baked macaroni & cheese, preferably using the sharp cheddar previously known as Kraft **** Brand.

I used to have a recipe book from Blue Ribbon Malt Syrup with a great recipe for macaroni & cheese w/malt syrup (but can never find it). Published before homebrewing was legal so what else could you use hopped malt syrup for back then?

Possibly - but I had a later edition.

Funny whenever I go looking for that recipe I always *think* it's in my World's Fair Schaefer Beer recipe book. Several good cheese-based recipes in that one, but no baked macaroni & cheese.

Not even remotely surprised that this was a Humble Sea creation. They don't take themselves too seriously, if the box art (which is right in line with the rest of their stuff) and name wasn't a dead giveaway. I want to hate it but I also want to try it...

...Strange, though I will say, on a related note, I think macaroni and cheese is the food least compatible with beer that I've tried. It's so starchy that I don't want to pair it liquid starch, and it's so salty and greasy that it overwhelms the palate with whatever you might to pair it with. I'm not huge on many beer-food pairings anymore aside from snacks, but mac and cheese is the least pairable item that I've tried so far.

It’s a favorable review of what I’d think was just a novelty item. I could see this making sense as a meal option at a brewpub. All that said, I eat mac and cheese about as often as I drink pastry stouts.

I just found this by the thousands at a food pantry in Texas. Wonder if it was the price, the flavor or altruism that brought it here by the apparent truckload. Guess I’ll know after I try it! (I can’t believe ANYONE would charge almost $5 for a box of Mac and cheese with powdered cheese!)

If you look at overall numbers, “craft beer” (quotations used because what the hell does it even mean anymore?) is still fairly niche yet it’s become so Mickey Mouse-ified that it’s almost funny. I mean, if this is a joke then it’s a good one, but if not… Well, I suppose I’m Jack’s complete lack of surprise.
