Haven't been up to Maine in too long... need to get a trip on the books to grab my Barreled Souls bottles and try this place out. Wonder if they'll be open by end of September?

One of the articles from February indicated a early July opening. If you Google it, says opens August 25 (Thursday).

These concepts are older than the latest boom in craft beer (2000-present). It's just that craft beer in the US is now sophisticated enough that they'll accept ventures like Sacred Profane, Notch, Schilling...etc.

The best part? If you just want a beer, just order a beer. They'll gladly pour you a half liter and you can go about your way.

And while this all cool geeky stuff from different cultures, the majority of people in places like the Czech Republic are likely just ordering a beer and socializing. Not pondering the differences of 5 different pours and their nuances.

Serious question, do these kinds of Czech pubs charge the same amount for a pour regardless of the amount of foam? It seems that with the heavier foam ones you are getting an awful lot of air, and more beer stays in the keg to be sold later. Just curious how this works.

Speaking from my experience at Human Robot, who popularized the new trend of "Milko" pours in the region... no, they're significantly cheaper, i.e. most lagers and helles or whatever will be $7 a pour while a milk tube is $3 (or $2 on Tuesday). Same was the case at other places I've seen it.

No, you pay for the amount of beer you get, not the size of the glass. So a mliko costs half the price of a hladinka.

Just to echo the sentiments above, it's half the price of a half liter at Notch.

And while a Mliko looks like all foam, it settles out to a half pour.

Story before that says opening 8/25 and I posted above that Google indicated the same.

Perhaps they have been reading this thread and have taken some comments to heart?

Interesting article. As someone who has only home brewed a couple times and has a B-I-L who is a professional brewer, I’m very amazed and impressed with the technical know-how and precision that goes into brewing, especially beers like the ones they are making. I hope they’re open when I visit in the fall.
Hopefully more progress will be made with regards to gender in the industry so that aspect doesn’t have to be mentioned every time she or her brewery is discussed. I did find it interesting that she seemed to lie about being treated differently at Jack’s Abbey, when it came to being given money for brewing education as her boss had proof that what she claimed was incorrect. I also disagree that comments on BA claimed she didn’t “have the chops for the challenge.” I’ll stand corrected if someone can point out an example of where someone posted about her lack of brewing skills. All that aside, I really like those kind of lagers and the menu looks good too, so I’m looking forward to visiting.

Weren't a pretty large number of offending comments deleted from this thread? Would probably be tough for someone to prove this to you given that, one way or the other.

I had a feeling you would feel the need to contradict me. I followed the thread from the beginning before the mods reported cleaning up comments so I know what was and wasn’t commented on. But again, if Todd says people on here were questioning her brewing “chops,” I’ll stand corrected.

I don't think Todd will feel the need to chime in on that point (maybe I'm wrong!) and -like I explained above- it would be impossible for others to "point out an example" otherwise so I'm not completely sure what the point of your challenge is... but hope you accomplished what you were looking for in throwing it out there lol.

I was simply commenting on the article the poster above linked for us to read. She claimed people on BA were questioning her brewing chops (apparently because she’s a woman) and I was claiming that it wasn’t true. Pretty clear actually. You, on the other hand, only posted to argue with me. Maybe you should post your own comment on the article itself.
