Oktoberfest beers are starting to roll through here in the DFW.

I agree with you. I could put away Ofest beers all summer long. More so than IPAs that's for sure.

Okay, I'll stand up for tradition and plain ol' old fashioned-ism here. As much as I like Okto-Märzen (it is my favorite style) and could probably drink it year-round, I also like the seasonal aspect -- that anticipation of the release and the way it makes the release special.

It's nostalgic in a very comforting way to me -- brings me back to my early days of beer discovery and enlightenment. I have the same attachment to Bock and Maibock. It could be just me, but it gives me a good feeling every season.

I like the anticipation/tradition to. It makes them more special for me for sure.

I agree, there is no other beer I associate so much with season. It is certainly a very enjoyable time of the year for me and one I look forward to more than any other beer wise.

I always notice the night noises slowly change as summer goes on; it tells me fall is coming…:beers:

Picked up the same today. Was looking for the canned 4 packs but my local grocer only had the sixers. I settled for the consolation. Packaged on 02 June. Will be hard pressed to find a more fresh imported Festbier, that's for certain!

Glad you added the qualifier there. 'Cause we both know...

But before that happens we get to listen to the deafening cicadas during the day.

Or wait for 'em to drop on your head.

Believe me, they hurt less than the chestnuts at Munich beer gardens!

I saw Nitro Pumking but its not something I had a urge to pick up. I live in a small state so its not like theres tons of falls beers out right now. The options are limited just like the places to buy beer are limited.

We only get the Weihenstephaner Helles cans here. Be cool if we got the festbiers in cans to. I'll be all over the Paulaner cans once they get stocked.

My birthday is the 23rd and I wait until after then to start my personal Oktoberfest. So, the 4 from the left will stay in the fridge. The 2 on the right will be gone this weekend.

A local has a good sale on the Paulaner Festbier (the style also packaged in the full liter cans) 12-packs. Bottled in April and drinking nice. Worth looking for if you haven't seen the monster cans yet.

I haven't seen any Paulaner Festbier yet this year. I did get to grab a liter can last year. Is it available just in the can/no liter stein included?

I've seen it that way in the past, but not sure if it's an ongoing format.

Last year I saw no bottles of Festbier, this year I haven't seen cans yet.

Somewhat ironic (is that the right word?) you should mention this since this year there is a cicada (maybe more than one) that sounds like a megaphone is being used! :grimacing:

I suppose I should be thankful for this latest (and appears to be never ending) heat wave since I have not opened any windows in what seems to be forever.

    Cheers!

The hotter it gets the louder they get so with this heat one just may have whipped out a megaphone to celebrate.

They sure seemed to come out early this year.

I always use them to gauge the end of summer -- when they stop singing, fall is officially here.

The annual ones can come out between late June and August and I'm with you, they seemed to be out on the earlier end of the scale this year and my guess is because of the heat. And the cicada killers in my area picked up on this too and I've seen a few getting devoured.

If you're interested cicadas supposedly taste just like shrimp since they are their land cousins.
