The Jester King Kvass is more like a saison that has rye bread in it. It's actually quite enjoyable ... unlike 95% of kvass.

I will have to take your word here since my personal experience with Kvass is a one and done affair.

    Cheers!

I have yet to find a true to style kvass that was not unpleasant to downright gross.

The brews that are more properly called a kvass-inspired beer - of those I have had a few that were good.

I can totally understand your reticence to try any other kvass beers because yes, they are what people think AALs are - a style that is terrible across the board.

Light golden color; clear; robust carbonation; thin yet lasting head, white. Very pleasant light grain aroma; light fruity, grassy character. Clean taste; mild malt base with a light to moderate hop bitterness. Light to medium body; partially juicy with a light dry finish.

    A decent, quaffable pilsner.

    So Happens It’s Tuesday
[IMG] 15.3% bourbon barrel aged stout by The Bruery

The body pours a very dark brown with modest tan head. Little lacing throughout.

The aroma is bourbon up front with a bit of vanilla (but mostly bourbon. Light carbonation seems just right. Mouthfeel is good but not heavy. Very inviting.

Flavor follows nose and perhaps gets even more bourbon flavored. Despite the high ABV, there is no significant heat. Well masked power. The light malty char and chocolate notes are delightful compliments to the bourbon. The combination makes this very drinkable. Dangerously drinkable.

I enjoyed that one quite a bit too. I was thinking about their format after I purchased and how they are pricey but then I realized the positive.

One hoppy beer usually gets me my fix for a few weeks, so in the end one expensive bottle vs. a four pack is actually more in line with what I want these days. With Maine that's what I get: my hop fix, variety, in a style of hoppy beer that isn't really that common these days. They are almost always fresh when they arrive too. It also appears their products still move quite quickly since I never find older ones.

I told myself I'm making it a point to by Lunch again next time I see it, I haven't revisited that one in several years now.

Pours a nutty brown with a finger of head. Slightly hazy. Smell is tea, old wood, nutty sweetness.

Taste is bitter and sweet, nuts and dark bread. Bitterness has a slight orange zest character, but darker somehow. Like it's burnt orange skin maybe.

Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy. Overall, very enjoyable.

I agree - but also $7 or $8 for a 500 ml bottle just isn't that much of an outlier as it used to be. I always enjoy their beers, so I don't mind picking them up as an occasional treat.

Whilst on vacation in Boothbay Harbor and Southport Island, Maine…..i am prone to wander about in the early morning, capturing sunrises, bike riding, etc.

Noticed in the local magazines and tourist guides an article on Sam Calgione and his time spent in Southport,. As a result of my early morning wandering, i came across Cozy’s Dockside. It is located on the adjacent to the Southport Yacht Club in the harbor and less than a mile away from Dogfishhead Road, the name of which was used by the local Delaware vacationer to name his very famous brewery

    https://downeast.com/my-favorite-place/sam-calagione-favorite-maine-place/

He has been known to pop into the nearby Boothbay Craft Brewery when in the area . Seated at a sunny picnic table at the dock with friends and family, i am offered several local Boothbay brewed products. Running with the eponymous theme, I select a Cozy’s Summer Ale, a Hefeweizen brewed by Boothbay Craft brewery

Hello there. I marvel at my 12 and 15 year old grandsons, the ceaseless subtle aging, and looking at them after a few months and seeing big differences in all kinds of ways. Time is fascinating and my memories of my years at that age are strong. I see generations and history in those two boys. It is startling and moving. It is endlessly instructive.
I'm watching The Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield, a fantastic old Donald Ross course. I grew up playing there and made a hole in one in my first few months of playing. This is pure nostalgia for me with the wonderful memories of playing with my Dad. He was a great golfer and his complete essence taught me to be almost as good a putter as he was. He was uncanny on the greens.
Sorry for the rambling but this is a very nice day. Cheers to each and all..

BlackStack Brewing Open Bar DDH NEIIPA. The can has a nice open bar picture on it. The look is murky, yet bright, a nice yellow-orange color. The smell is fruity and dank. Orange, grapefruit, and honeydew scents jump out of the glass, with an earthy, bitter, and grainy finish. The taste is juicy, with mild bitterness. It tastes like grapefruit juice with orange juice ice in it. It has a slight hop burn, with a buttery aftertaste. The mouthfeel is smooth and crisp tropical fruit juice, with light carbonation. Overall, this is a good beer. Not exceptional, but I am drinking it outside in very hot weather, so I drank it very quickly. It was quite refreshing.

Thanks for the kick-off @Mdog. I'm enjoying a day at the lake today, which has meant a long stand-up paddle, plenty of time in the water, a book, and now a beer. Today I'm enjoying Sour in the Rye with Peaches, from The Bruery. This is one of many, many beers that @2beerdogs sent me last fall. Derek, I'm doing my best to drink them all, but it's taking me a while!

Pours a rusty orange color with excellent clarity. Small amount of fizzy, very short-lived head.

Aroma packs a punch. Earthy, tart funk dominates. While the peaches seem to have faded as a distinct aroma, there's something underneath the funk that I assume traces its roots back to them. Oak barrel notes remain in the background. All in all an appealing aroma to the beer.

Taste is really interesting. There's a strong initial tartness that greets the tongue. Once adjusted, a whole bunch of flavors create a unique melange that's hard to describe. It's plenty sour, that's for sure. What keeps it from being one dimensional is likely the evolution of the base ingredients over the last few years. Similar to the nose, the barrel notes are still present, but in a background role. There's a general earthy fruit character that I can't pin down to peaches, but likely traces its roots there. Whatever it is, it works well together.

Feel is light bodied with not a ton of carbonation. Goes down easily, but with a bit of a pucker

Overall, interesting and very enjoyable beer.

Bell's Tequila Barrel Aged Flamingo Fruit Fight

12oz bottle served in a footed pilsner glass. Bottle is dated 05/14/2021, so it's almost 17 months old, and it's clearly labeled "Shelf Life - 12 Months" so if I think it's terrible or gone bad, I wouldn't actually enter the review. Received from @FBarber in NBS BIF #14. I kept delaying consumption until my wife was interested in joining me...but I'm home alone and it feels like the right time.

Pours clear until the bottom of the bottle, when some sediment streams out and clouds up the whole thing. After a few minutes, there is zero head, although there is a little active carbonation. Smell is lime-tart and some vague tropical notes.

Taste is a little tequila, a little lime, more vague citrus, kind of tart, and mostly lacking the kettle sour flavor that rubs me the wrong way.

Mouthfeel is fairly light and fairly crisp. Overall...it's not bad. It probably would have been better fresher, but that's not Bells' fault.

    Good afternoon NBW
My wife toted 2 six packs of this home from Phoenix. Thought I'd give it a try
    [IMG]

12oz canned 5/27/22 (about 10 weeks old) poured into a shaker pint glass at fridge temp 5% ABV. The beer pours bright gold with nearly white head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring and nothing else. No lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet orange. The taste is semisweet Creamsicle orange with a hint of wheat malt. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, overdone and artificial to my taste.

I am not a fan, which is fine, as she will drink the rest. Cheers all!

Let's try another wheat beer my wife bought me
    [IMG]

350mL can marked H.20.07 poured into a perfect pint glass at fridge temp 5.5% ABV. The beer pours hefe-hazy in a soft, light yellow color with nearly white head which disappeared almost immediately. There was some pretty sediment on the second pour. The aroma is mild with bitter orange, coriander and wheat. The taste is semisweet coriander, wheat malt and a hint of orange peel. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, good version of a witbier. Scored to the BA average as the can is old and I'm not a big fan of the style.

Well, that's enough of that. I'll be headed to WBAYDN with some not wheat beers...

    Cheers all!
