In recent travels have enjoyed Schilling and Olde Meck. Will give an honorable mention to Burning Blush in Mills River as they primarily brew lagers and have enjoyed a dark lager.
    Cheers!

Straub Brewery was a favorite with me and my friends during my underage years and early 20’s. A lot of good memories and great times. Preferably the 16 oz. POUNDER bottles.
[IMG]Here is a little history about Straub Brewery. An independent family owned brewery since 1872. It may not be considered an elite brewery amongst beer geeks or untappd but it is one of my favorite lagers.

Here in VA, I'll say Bingo in RVA does lagers very well. I will also say Devil's Backbone can do lagers very well.

Okay this is a real challenge, especially since I have not had the opportunity visit most of these but if I were to go on reputation alone:

    pFriem
    Notch
    KC Bier Co.
    Olde Mecklenburg
    Bierstadt
That's awesome. They make a Franconian Dunkel that is excellent. Brewer Joran Van Ginderacther brings a solid rep with him.

Can you buy Straub 1872 Lager in your area?

It has been several years since they made this beer available in my area (Philly area). A couple of years ago I sent an e-mail to Straub Brewing asking about this beer but they couldn't be bothered to respond to my query.

    Cheers!

    No particular order:

    Suarez
    HF
    Notch
    Schilling
    Fox Farm

    Honorable mention would be Moonlight.

Obviously there’s a geographical skew to this just based on what I’ve had a lot of. However, places like Live Oak, Heater Allen, Enegren and Urban Chestnut have been phenomenal from the more limited number of lagers I’ve had from them.

My post was not meant to have the beers available nationwide. I'm curious if I travel to say Chicago if there is an elite lager brewery in the area....same for all cities..

When's the last time you had Capital? 20 years ago I would say for sure. I haven't had their beers for a couple years but last time I did it was a huge fall off from Kirby's days.

This is exactly what I meant. I probably should have phrased it differently. Maybe "Who makes the best lagers in the U.S?"

Exactly what I was hoping to hear. Wanting to learn about the best in the U.S for future travels or to trade for.

I recall some discussion about these beers in a past thread with a topic being how outrageously expensive they are.

Are you still buying these beers? If so, do you have them delivered and are the prices even higher in 2022?

    Cheers!

Tbh I haven’t tried that particular beer or even knew it existed until you brought it to my attention. It looks interesting and I can see why you would in enquirer about it. I will keep an eye out and see if it sold in my area and let you know. Obvious poor customer service if they cannot take the time to answer a simple question. Cheers.

 That's gotta be the weirdest 'dba' name ever - wonder how that came about when the contract for the US market went from Molson to Miller... can't remember exactly but there was that period there in the '90s when Miller owned part of Molson and, of course, SABMiller eventually bought Fosters aka CUB.

I think that's how it went. Damn where's my score card?

    ...yes (on several accounts)...

...I never heard of the brewery until a thread I saw about the horror of lagers at $15 per bottle...

...and that is a steep price, especially when one factors in the third-party shipping that I need to pay for this beer...

...that said, I truly feel that these are some quality beers...worth the overall price?...debatable and not for most folks...yet I find the fresh initial releases that I use my (somewhat) discretionary funds for well worth it...every beer has been unique, subtle, and oh, so satisfying...is this partially because of it's relative rarity?...perhaps that is part of it, yet, with my semi-refined (self-proclaimed) palate, I think there is substance to its allure...

...I mean, after all, I need to judge some of this in comparison to what I've recently paid for Hair Of The Dog beers...:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

...I'll say this - I'm still willing to try future releases...on the same token, Bierstadt and Russian River lager / pilsners can stand up to some of the Hanabi lagers...
