At a local supermarket, they still have a bunch of 2021 BCBS base version bottles sitting in the fridge.

Some of this year's variants seem interesting, but I will have to wait and the price point before deciding to buy.

I’d agree with this slightly. But I came here to say that I think it’s pretty remarkable that after all these years, these two are still the class of the style.

Yeah, for all the talk about innovation in craft brewing it's pretty remarkable that these two remain near the top of the heap in the world of ba stouts.

The lowest I’ve ever seen here is $12-13 for the base. I was given a bottle last year after deciding to pass.

I’d love to live long enough to see a bottle of the coffee. If Lagunitas comes through with Willettized this fall, and that’s a big if, then I’ll steer my money to them instead of the golden goose.

Not a single one of those listed sounds appealing to me whatsoever.
All those "flavors" distract from the taste of the beer, which is probably on purpose.
Definitely not a "style" for me.

While i half agree at least they threw peanuts at us by making the base stout and the anniversary one without any added shit in it

Does Costco near you sell beer? If so, they should have it for $8.99, at least they have in the past. And variants cheaper than anybody.

Surprised there's not more excitement in here about Coffee finally being back.

They sell cases and mix packs but I’ve never seen BC.

The beer selection at Costco must be dependent on the local beer buyer. Mine doesn't even get the regular BCBS let alone any variants.
Same here. But I think GI is stingy when it comes to sending stuff to Michigan.

I’m as excited as I can be considering that I have never seen coffee available here.

People on BA get much more excited about complaining that a beer is gone than excited about seeing its return.

Whenever my wife tells me to stop complaining about something, I tell her that I like to complain. It makes me happy.

it goes over like a lead balloon, but I’m always only half joking.

Over the last 3 years, I've given up on the variants and stuck exclusively to the base. It's always better and the variant prices are ridiculous. After years of spending well over $100 on BCBS, now I get 2 OGs and I'm good.

Hopping on this thread as a relative stout newbie to pose a question. I always buy one bottle of BCBS (regular version) each year as a birthday treat since it comes out around the same time as my birthday. I enjoy it but I'm far from a BA stout aficionado. My annual BCBS bottle and an occasional Founders KBS single or pour on tap comprise the sum of my experience with this style.

I understand this beer ages well. The other day I saw a few bottles of the 2017 offering for sale at what I think is the same price typically charged for the current release. Does this beer age so well that these beers would still be worth buying? Should I expect a 2017 bottle to taste notably different than a recent release?

This particular beer does tend to age well. Your personal preferences and the flavor nuances of that particular year will influence how well you feel it ages.

If you're interested in delving into the style more I would say that buying one of those bottles is a great value for exploring the flavors of ba stouts as they age.
