Ah have no idea when this was released. It just cracked the untapped top 50 for some reason.

I had a pour at Wakefest and it was pretty good, but my understanding is that Brewlihan literally just opened to the public. I think they just started the first membership round last week, and prior to that he was small/experimental and was working to get started for the last 3 years. I can't imagine there's many Double Pear Vanilla's outside of what he brings to festivals and what he gives to friends. For now, I would say it's priceless since I don't think many people have it and not many people even know about Brewlihan except for a handful of meadbois.

As a side note, I feel like aside from Pips, a lot of meaderies don't have much secondary value. I think Pips created a craze with new meaderies popping up, but many haven't delivered to that same quality. I joined Zymarium last year and I hear his stuff is really good, but the development has been really slow. But I think many join these small/experimental meaderies hoping they hit a home run as the next "Pips" or "Side Project".

People rate mead way more generously than beer on Untappd.

"Does it taste like sweet blueberry syrup. Yep, ok then, 5/5!"

Look at the top rated "breweries" on Untappd, they're almost all meaderies. But go around talking to most heavy UT using beer geeks and you'll almost never hear them mention mead. But if you only used UT you'd think it was gods gift of beverages and they'd be seeking this stuff to quench their neverending lust on a daily basis.

It's ridiculous that all these non-beer related liquids are on UT. The fact that wine and whiskey aren't but literally everything else is just kind of seals it for me. Like, seriously, what the fuck does seltzer and apple cider have to do with beer? It's one reason why I never use UT's top ratings. The other reason being the obvious, namely how heavily people disingenuously inflate ratings of new beers. New hype drops skyrocket for no good reason and it's way too easy to do so. It's like UT has absolutely no algorithm cushion to deal with this. It's as terrible as an app could possibly get for the purposes of top ratings.

This has been brought up many times and I completely agree. It's my understanding that BA does have an algorithm that takes into account the number of reviews a beer has when assessing a beer's position in the top 100 (250 now), but even so... IMHO there are still far too many beers in the top 250 with reviews of roughly 100 or less. It always makes me a bit skeptical about the actual quality of the beer in question when I see that few reviews. Personally, I consider myself a VERY generous reviewer, yet of the 37 beers I've reviewed that are currently in the top 100, thirty of my reviews are below the Beer Advocate average (in some cases, well below the BA average). I know everyone's taste in beer is subjective/different, but it's hard for me to believe that this is just a coincidence. I'm absolutely convinced that trading has a direct impact on some of the inflated scores I see in the BA top 250 (even more for the top 100).

I don't trade much, and I don't belong to any brewery membership clubs, but I would be very leery of ever trading for a new, never previously released beer, just based on review scores that were promulgated shortly after its release.

UT has a weighed rating. I'm not sure how much this combats hype ratings but it's there

Looking for a 4 pack of heady topper from alchemist, what would that run me on a trade? I got a few Black Tuesday bottles from the bruery. 2017, 2018 and 2020, pliney the elder from Russian River, etc

Never had the heady topper, but real interest in trying the hype on the beer.

$4$ on PtE for Heady Topper. For reference, HT from the source is $13.00 per four pack.

By making mead that catered to pastry bois, the same way Garagiste did before they caught shit for being the people that they are.

Mead that doesn't resemble anything mead related whatsoever, that's thicker than dark maple syrup and sweeter than Frankenberry milk.

I only got into craft back in 2019, so don't know the full history here, but I know mead is still fairly new. I think Zymarium and Brewlihan are the first two Florida meaderies, which is interesting because I think many of the good honey variants come from Florida.

Not entirely sure what made Pips stand out aside from what Sabtos said, but I think it was also because the Pips guy came from the beer world? Again, not entirely sure, but I think he was pretty big in the craft beer scene in Chicago before opening Pips. He probably also has some connection to Side Project and other big name breweries too. Again, don't know the full history, but that's just my guess.

Perhaps you mean Orlando? Because Garagiste has those two beat by at least a few years, and Cigar City was doing it before them, and surely there must be a few others.

And aside from recent Floridian history, mead has been around for 9,000 years, but the shit we drink today has absolutely no resemblance to its origins.

I know there is a considerable size difference in the presentation, but would a can of Triple Barrel Catch Hell pull a MD (Weldwerks/SP) bottle. I didn't want to confuse it with morning delight? I know the $$$ value on the can is ~$100.

I know this is the trade value thread and not the beer reviews thread but TB catch hell is so significantly better that you would be insane to offer the TBCH for MD. I've had both and it's not even close.

Although I have not had MD, I can't imagine much is better than TBCH. Absolutely blew me away! The most balanced BA and adjuncted beer I've ever had. So maybe your right....I think I'll hold on to it.

With that said, would the value be similar?

I've actually seen TBCH drop a bit recently, like I've seen 75 locally a couple times, which is a steal. MD seems to still be around 100-125, but it'll probably drop to 75 in a few months.

That being said, I've had both and think TBCH is phenomenal, while MD is pretty meh. I actually have an extra bottle of MD and would probably close this 1:1, but I promised a couple of friends I'd open one with them.
